This unit is the old-fashioned type of unit that was used back in the 1960's. It is fool-proof, rugged, and well built. No electronics to go bad like the more expensive units on the market today. Easy, simple, and real to use. Highly recommend.

I use this battery load tester to see the condition of my car battery and it is good for testing your solar system batteries

I bought this to replace one of the exact same model that I bought probably 20 years or so ago. The other one was damaged by my carelessness and was still working great after all these years. It is a great way to put a "load" on a battery to test for weak or damaged cells and will quickly let you know if the battery is the problem or whether I should look elsewhere.

The Schumacher BT-100 Battery Load Tester and Voltmeter can be used by anyone that can read. When I turned the key on my zero turn mower, sometimes nothing would happen, sometimes it would turn over real slow but would start the mower and other times the mower started no problem. I suspected the battery needed to be replaced but my voltmeter always read about 12 volts so I wasn't 100% sure. In the past I would drive about 25 miles to take the battery to have it tested and buy a new one. They tested the battery with something that looked like this Load Tester so I figured I could do it if I had one of those things. I searched the internet for "battery tester" and found one for 60 + dollars that did just that - test the battery with no load on it. Than I ran across a "battery load tester" for 50 + dollars. That is where I learned that although a battery can read 12 volts, it should actually read about 12.4 volts or higher and that is where the Load Tester comes to play. When I put a load on my mower battery it dropped down in the red below the 12V mark and needed to be replaced. I think I only paid about 30 + dollars for the Schumacher BT-100 Battery Load Tester and Voltmeter. It also can test the charging system and starter motor. This is probably the best $30+ I have spent in a long time. I'm sorry I didn't get one of these many moons ago.

All of our local auto stores offer free battery testing but it's a hassle and if a battery tests out bad, I'd feel obligated to buy one from that store as opposed to a better offering. The dual batteries on my truck started getting weak in cooler temps. I tested them after the truck sat for a couple days and came up with 12.05v which I know is just around 50% capacity and I know there aren't any drains. Using this, I determined the batteries weren't bad but they were in fact weak which isn't surprising since they're over 4 years old. The real reason I bought this was for our boat, which has 3 high performance AGM group 31 batteries that cost ~$500/ea and we typically refresh them every 3 years for safety and reliability. They're buried in the hull and not easy to get out, so if they're coming out they're getting replaced. With this I'll be able to more accurately assess the condition of the batteries and replace them when they test weaker than their stated cranking amps as opposed to just a time-based replacement, and the best part is I can leave them right where they are to test them. This is sure to save us money in the long run. The tool is simplistic, feels durable, and should last a long time.

I have many batteries at home for bikes cars camping and boat. I have used a similar style of tester for many years as a truck mechanic and are a fantastic product. I had a cheap digital tester but this didn't last two years. Avoid the digital and buy this mechanical style and it will give you years or service.

Cannot go wrong with this one, Schumacher BT-100 is the leader and it is for a reason. Quality tool and from a very reliable company, cannot go wrong here every shade tree mechanic should have one on hand. Cheers.
