I read one review that says the 16 quart cooker does not work with quart jars. We use quart jars only so I would like confirmation? Thanks

Question 2

Does the regulator is set at 15 pound? Why do some people buy the extra weight?

Accepted Answer

This canner is ready to use as-is by closely monitoring the dial gauge. The regulator cap that comes with it will keep the steam valve closed until the pressure reaches 15psi, at which the regulator will start to wiggle to let off steam and relieve pressure. I choose to use the 5/10/15 weighted regulator because most of my canning is at 10psi. I set it for the proper weight so it wiggles at 10psi. This gives me an audible cue at 10psi so I don't have to watch that dial like a hawk. I can hear the rhythm of the regulator rocking and more easily adjust the heat without dipping below pressure and having to start the time over. I can keep it within earshot while I do other things. Without it, I was constantly checking the quite canner to make sure it hadn't dropped below 11 on the dial; plus, I don't worry about the dial malfunctioning because the rocking regulator insures I'm at pressure.

Does this canner come with a rack in the box?

No rack, just the removable base with holes to keep the jars off the bottom of the pan. I use my jar lifter from my kit and have not had a problem.  Yeah, it would probably be a little easier with a rack, but not enough to justify the additional cost if it was included. With my arthritis, I couldn't lift the weight of all the jars anyway. Dear Hubby does it for me with the water bath canner.

does it come with the weighted guage?

Our 16 quart(01755) model canner comes with a steam dial gauge and a 15 pound regulator that will only rock when the pressure has reached 15 pounds.  Your steam dial gauge will show you the amount of pressure in the canner.
