Velocity Veloplugs Rim Plugs (72/Bag)

These at first look really small, however after boiling them in hot water and pushing them in they work perfectly. I got them just in time for a 2 day race so I will know after if they hold up. I really can't image any issues since the latex tube is now pushing them in. I installed them on 50mm carbon fiber rims running latex tubes and GP4k's. This is for my race wheels, however is all works well I will be switch all my wheelsets with them.

Don't get me wrong -- I love Velox. But whenever I build a set of wheels around a Velocity rim, I use the Velocity plugs instead of tape. They hold fast in the spoke holes, save a little weight, and make the wheel a tad easier to service in the long run (e.g. if you break a spoke).The only thing that bothers me about them is that they can be a little tricky to align properly in the rim bed (i.e. long axis parallel to the rim). This is not just a cosmetic issue, as a mis-aligned plug will have a protruding edge that could prematurely wear a tube. Just take your time when putting them in.

A little more time consuming than tape. But worth the effort. They won't slide out of position. And no more flats caused by spoke hole.

Have these on several wheelsets, never failed once. Even pried a couple out and reused them. Too bad they don't make them for tubeless setups.

If these cost what tiny plastic plugs SHOULD cost, this would be no biggie, but at $12 a bag, this matters. Because of the reviews here, I was careful to measure my spoke holes multiple times. Everyone said these fit really tight. My spoke holes all measured 8mm with my calipers (and I checked against a mm ruler, too) so I ordered the red. They fit so loose they don't stay in -- turn the wheel and they'll fall out. They'd probably stay in under a layer of tape but, err, that's why I wanted plugs, to avoid the tape. (I hate the goo it leaves behind when you need to remove it for repairs.)They'd work fine once a tube is inflated -- if I could guarantee they'd stay in while fitting the tube and tire, but see the first issue. They're so loose, they fall right out when the wheel is inverted.You can't order both sizes and see which fits, either, as they can't be returned.I expected to love these, but unless I can get them to stay in, they're worse than the lousiest tape.

I've used Veloplugs on several wheels that I've built over the last few years. I'll never use rim tape again. The Veloplugs take up almost no space in the rim, so tires mount easier. They also don't slide off or otherwise expose a tube to the rim, so they won't fail over time. I reused a set on a wheel I had to rebuild.

These little plugs can be used instead of rim strips to prevent damage to bicycle tubes. The plugs fit into holes in rims usually covered by rim strips. After using them for 2,000 miles they have worked perfectly. The plugs should last for a very long time and simplify replacing spokes and nipples. I would give them 5 stars except for the cost. They just seem over priced to me. In spite of the cost I will buy them again for my wheels in the future.

These things are freaking fantastic. Utterly brilliant.The only reason I will ever consider using rim tape again is if aliens land on Earth and confiscate all our plastic.In the spirit of leaving a Fair and Balanced Amazon Review I suppose I should complain about something. So, um, I don't like that they're red because the color doesn't go well with my bike.
