Plug in the control device (e.g. DVR) into the top receptacle (marked "MASTER"). The bottom receptacle (marked "ACC") feeds one accessory device, or a power strip with multiple devices. The Master receptacle is normally turned on. The ACC receptacle is only on when the device in the MASTER receptacle is drawing more than 20W. For example, plug your DVR into the MASTER receptacle and a power strip with your TV, stereo, subwoofer, disc player, and other into the ACC receptacle. When the DVR is on, the ACC receptacle turns on. When you switch the DVR to off or stand-by mode, the ACC receptacle will turn off. The DVR will still record what you want, but the other equipment cannot draw unwanted phantom power.
