Nutricost Casein Protein Powder 5lb (Chocolate)

Wanted to write an honest review about this product because this product really is what are the best tasting drinks I’ve ever had personally. I’ve been in Fitness for 25 years and I’ve been through countless different products. This one will definitely stay in my top choice when it comes to ingredients, taste and mixes very smoothly. If you’re looking for quality ingredients and delicious tasting Casein protein powder then this product is not only quality but also very good value!

I like it. If you are an experienced protein drink user you may know about this. All the milk solids taken out of whey protein is in this powder. It has a grittiness you won't find in the smoother whey powders. But for some, texture isn't a turn off, we are after the effects of it rather than esthetics. It keeps me feeling full and feeds you over a longer stretch of time than whey protein. This takes awhile to digest. It helps me cut meals out and not get hungry for quite awhile. It tastes like chocolate. Is it like chocolate powders you had as a kid? No. This isn't that sweet or smooth, not even close. But, it's not meant to be. If what I describe isn't for you, buy the whey. Do your research on casein before buying either way. This is a top brand to me, more for less $.

Great powder! Unless you are blending it up, most powders will have a little graininess when drinking. The particles are very fine with this powder, easy to chug without feeling like you are chewing it. I'm not a fan of whey since I tried the casein powder. The whey leaves a sliminess on the inside of the shaker, the casein does not and it doesn't stink up the plastic with a milk/dairy kind of odor. That was my big take-away because if you don't wash the shaker out right away it gets gross. I'm using the chocolate now and very happy with it.

This is the first time I've tried powdered protein, but I wanted to stay away from pre-made shakes with seed oils. I purchased this in the chocolate flavor, and it's pretty good! My daughter likes to mix it with milk, but I like it better with water. To me, it has a weird texture when mixed with milk and honestly, makes me gag! I have found that it tastes FAR better if it is shaken to mix, instead of stirred. If you stir it, it doesn't mix properly and it just tastes really, really bad. Overall, I think it's a pretty good quality protein powder without added garbage. We are not taking it for muscle gain, so I don't know about that, but on the whole, this is a good product, even though it takes a bit of getting used to.

I've been getting the unflavored version of this for a while now, and it's great. They were out of the 5lb container last time, so I got the chocolate flavored one. The chocolate version just horrible. It is filled with sucralose (zero calorie sweetener that is 600x sweeter than sugar) and it is just disgustingly, cloying sweet. It does have a bit of a chocolate flavor, but that sweetener overpowers anything that you'd mix it with. Also, the texture is a little different - just a little bit grittier and doesn't dissolve in my coffee as well. Unflavored finally came back in stock and I ordered a new one. I may try mixing them together to see if it's more palatable, but I'll probably just throw this one out.

Our all-time favorite casein protein powder (we rarely do whey protein--don't like the texture and we've had great results with this slow-burning protein) was Dymatize Elite Casein in the "rich chocolate" flavor. Absolutely delicious and fantastic consistency. BUT, for anyone health-minded, looking at the ingredient label was hard to stomach. Lots of fillers and especially the presence of ingredients known to be bad for gut health (e.g., Xanthan Gum). At the end of the day, yes, they both have sucralose (another name for Splenda) in them, but the ingredients in this product are far more appealing (and simple) than those in the Dymatize. Ideally I'd love to see an option which used say monkfruit + allulose as the sweetener. As far as "clumpiness" this mixes really well. You just have to know what you're doing with casein protein powders in general in order to mix it smooth. We use a Ninja Bullet blender for our protein shakes and it works great. Very smooth and creamy result. It's also pretty mixable and smooth and creamy just with enough water. The less water you use the thicker it'll be. I've tried MANY protein powders and if you don't like this one I'm not sure if you'll find any that you do like. I'm very picky about taste and texture and relative healthiness of ingredients, and for me this is (on the whole) about the best you can do. Plus it's actually about as affordable as they get. Some of these protein powders are insanely pricely (looking at you Dymatize). So this is a great combination: it's an affordable and effective and tasty protein powder.

Great value for this size canister. Since casein digests slower, I don’t get late afternoon snack cravings. Taste is very similar to Orgain and ISO.

My go to protein now, switched from whey as caseine is a slower release and Nutricost has excellent prices. Its pretty low calorie too, almost no carbs in it. 2 scoops is 260 calories for 50g of protein
