Sigma 150-600mm 5-6.3 Contemporary DG OS HSM Lens for Canon

For a "cheap" telephoto lens, this Sigma really blew my expectations out of the water. It is relatively lightweight, maybe only weighing 7 lbs. when paired with my Canon Rebel T7 camera body, so it is great to carry, even on long hikes or birdwatching trips.The AF feature is fairly decent, getting a nice clear focus within the 100-400mm focal length, in my experience. Beyond 400mm, the focus is less accurate, but the option for manual override helps in those instances. The AF feature is also on the slow side, so getting yourself acquainted with the manual focus may be helpful for capturing flighty birds or other fast moving objects.The optical stabilization feature also works great, allowing for smooth viewing even in high movement shots. There are two options: full stabilization, or isolated horizontal/vertical stabilization for tripod viewing. Occasionally, there can be a slight jump or "jitteriness" in the stabilization, but this is typically minor and does not last long.Lastly, this lens seems to do well in a variety of lighting situations. Attached to this review are pictures taken by myself in everything from the beating summer sun to cloudy skies. The lens performed well in all situations! I find many of the limitations in picture quality may be stemming from me using an entry-level camera body, and aren't the lens itself.All-in-all, I strongly recommend this lens. It is well worth the money, and is probably one of the best values for a telephoto lens out there.

I'm loving this lens, I'm getting some shots I never thought I'd be able to get. Sigma's products are the real deal and worth the price they charge for them. If you're thinking of making an upgrade to a nice long focal length, you can't go wrong with this one. Pretty light for it's size too. I'm able to get super clear pictures from a long ways away, and although I'd love a wider aperture so i dont have to rely on ISO as much, I know that'd be impossible without shelling out a ton more money. I highly recommend this for people who are looking to get into some real deal wildlife photography but aren't willing to make the jump to a lens that costs as much as a car. Excellent for starting a career or really drilling into a hobby.

I will start off by saying I only review items that I have gotten to use. I don't review anything right after I took it out of the Box to say oh well this is amazing.. With that being said after using this lens for a couple of weeks I can honestly say it's freaking incredible! With that being said this was my 1st serious lens purchase. Before this all I've been treating with have been kit lenses. I have this on a rebel T5I right now however I do plan to upgrade. The auto focus is sticky and tracks amazing.. Image civilization is Phenomenal. One problem I did have with it is it is when I had this attached to a shoulder sling when I walked the camera got switched and it's auto focus length from 10 Meters to infinity down to 2 m to 10 m. For 2 days I could not get any sports photos that we're coming out clear and was thinking I would have to send this back to Sigma. However the one day it just dawned on me to check that setting and I found that it had gotten switched perand switched. After doing something about it that's what I had realized what it that while I was walking with the camera at my side it probably just got bumped. After switching it back to The infinity setting the the lens works perfectly. Images are extremely sharp and crisp. The background Boca is amazing even at F 6.3. This lens is a terrific investment. I really wanted to get the sport model however the extra $500 was kind of hard to justify especially on my budget however the contemporary lens truly is an incredible lens. If you're looking for or a good sportsman or a lens to take photos of the moon or anything like that I would not not hesitate to get this once again

I had my eyes on this lens for quite sometime, and am so glad that I made the purchase. I mainly use this lens for wildlife photography, and at my kids baseball games (easy shooting from the stands or down the foul lines). The build quality is great by my standard, the durable heavy duty plastic used in the Contemporary version is certainly tough. While it is not as fast or as sharp as some of the top of the line prime or other mega zooms (i.e., Canon EF 600mm, 500mm or 400mm USM lenses, or the EF 100-400mm F4.5-5.6L IS II USM, etc.), it is significantly cheaper, so for me the way lower price point more than makes up for the slight drop in speed/sharpness. I can't comment on how it compares optically to the Tamron G2 150-600, but the Sigma it is cheaper by at least a few hundred so to me it was an easy choice.Pros:- IMO the best price point available;- Great image quality once you figure out how it jives with your camera (re: ISO, shutter speed [min 2x focal length]);- Durable and tough, the composite plastic is great.Cons:- It is "heavy" at 4.25 lbs, but what can be expected for a well built zoom lens. I haven't tried a monopod or tripod with it, that would undoubtedly help, but I am mobile when I shoot wildlife so for me I prefer to shoot from the hip;- Sometimes focus hunts, especially with flying birds at full zoom (> 500mm);- Not great in low light, but at 600mm and F 6.3 what do you expect? If your camera can tolerate higher ISO then it shouldn't really be a problem (re: owl shot). I mean how many of us are shooting for Nat Geo?- The lens focal lengths switch (full, 10-infinity, 2.8m - 10m) on the lens body is lose and I tend to bump it when I'm walking around with it, so that can be annoying.Overall, the lens is great optically (not perfect, but damn good) and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a mega zoom that doesn't want to break the bank.All of the accompanying photos were taken by me, shooting handheld, on a Canon 80D (APS-C).

This Sigma lens is a really good lens, but be ready to hold a lot of weight. After using the lens for a few months, I do find it to be very good. Great for wildlife and has been used for a few portraits, which came out really good. Sharpness is really good, as is stabilization, focusing and it keeping flaring down. The only issue I actually found, which you can see in the pictures, is a weird busyness in the background at times. Also to mention, these pictures were taken with the Canon R.In conclusion, the lens is a great buy and will not disappoint.

First off, I'll say I'm an advanced enthusiast not into pixel peeping. But this lens is great! I got it primarily for some random nature walks and the 2 airshows I attend each year. Optically, it's very sharp in the middle all focal lengths but definitely visibly falls off in the corners as I'm using it on a full-frame Canon 6D. Not deal breaking but the outer edges are noticeably less sharp without pixel peeping. Color rendition is very good, similar to my Canon L lenses, but probably just a bit less saturated/dull. Focus speed is very good, I haven't missed any shots because of it yet. If you use the focus distance limiting switches, it's even faster because it limits the focus hunting. I haven't done any high speed tracking/panning with it yet, but that's not a super strength of the Canon 6D to begin with. Build quality is excellent for the price. Zoom and focus rings have good tension, no rough spots throughout the range. All the parts fit together nicely, no play or wiggle while zooming. The first part of the body (last 2" near the mount) is metal, the rest is thermally stable plastic as is pretty much the norm these days for non-professional grade lenses. The tripod foot is also removeable and the lens includes a nice silicone ring to protect the foot mounts when removed. It's also worth noting the lens comes with a nice padded, Sigma labeled bag with a strap to store/transport the lens. This is a nice touch and saved me a few bucks since any third party lens case big enough to hold this size lens is at least $40. Weight could definitely be an issue for some. At 4.25lbs its my heaviest lens by far. I use a Black Rapid RS-5 sling strap and it makes it relatively easy to carry, but a standard neck strap wouldn't work for anything more than a short stint. For days at the airshow, I plan on using my monopod. As a matter of habit and good practice I always put a B+W UV MRC filter on all my lenses. So just a warning that at 95mm, that size filter cost more than 10% of the lens' cost! I waffled between this lens and the twice as expensive Sport model. From the few online reviews available, the only real "cons" to this lens verses the sport is slightly lower optical clarity (but I'm not a pixel peeper as previously noted), slightly slower focus (could be an issue, but I'm no pro to begin with), and lack of the tank-like build quality and weather sealing. So given these 3 cons, the only one that would really affect my personal use is build quality and I couldn't justify another thousand dollars for that. The other obvious comparison for this lens is the similarly priced Tamron 150-600. So the following is what swayed me to the Sigma: I'll say that I generally prefer Sigma to Tamron for third party lenses (though I do own Tamron's excellent new SP 15-30mm F2.8), I really like the look of Sigma's new Global Vision lens line (personal preference), the Sigma included a nice padded case, and the final one up over the Tamron is Sigma's USB dock. And lastly, to cover the USB dock. This lens has two "Custom" mode positions, and I made C1 a setting to prioritize speed in it's focus and OS and C2 a setting to prioritize accuracy in its focus and OS.Update 11-16-2015: I still stand by this lens, it really is great. Added some pics from the Great New England Airshow. It was a cloudy, hazy, summer day and the lens still captured some pretty good color saturation. Pics taken with my Canon 6D, all handheld, really shows off the len's OS. Most pics were keepers (or at least good enough) given the fairly high-speed tracking.

Incredibly happy with this acquisition. It is 100% not for every situation, to edify: this is not a walking around lens, its weight is something of a hindrance, so you’ll probably want to mount it to a tripod. Outside of its mass, it takes great, clear photos/video at wide open apertures & stabilization performs admirably.Apparently it’s compatible with the sigma dock to upgrade its firmware, I can’t speak on that.If you’re looking to add this focal length to your kit, it’s a solid choice, especially at this price point and its offerings compared to native glass. 10/10 would recommend

Tengo una Canon EOS 250D y me gusta mucho hacer fotos de aves y naturaleza, llevo un tiempo usando un objetivo Canon 70-300 con buenos resultados pero se me quedaba corto en muchas ocasiones, así que me decidí por comprar el Sigma 150-600. Tenía miedo porque es un objetivo muy oscuro pero cuando lo he probado me ha maravillado con su calidad de imagen.A tener en cuenta:- Es un objetivo grande y pesado, para estar quieto en un sitio, enfocar y disparar. Colgar la cámara del cuello con este objetivo para ir andando con él no es para nada viable. Para eso tienes el 70-300.- Se te va a hacer durillo enfocar y hacer zoom sin un trípode, aunque se puede hacer. Recomendable usar trípode si vas a estar un buen rato haciendo fotos.- La nitidez de las imágenes es una maravilla, lo he probado con aves pequeñas pero me falta irme a un puesto de observación de aves. Aún así el resultado es muy bueno.- En la caja viene una bolsa para transportarlo, correas para la bolsa y el objetivo, el parasol y el objetivo

I bought this lens after a lot of contemplating. Ever since I found a new interest in bird/animal photography, I started getting interested in buying a DSLR and I did get a Canon 200D II with both the kit lens. I was getting by with using the 55-250mm (400mm full frame equivalent at the max zoom range) but I had my eyes on this lens but was hesitant on spending so much. But compared to the Canon lenses, this was way affordable.Talking about the lens, it takes a bit of time getting used to.Build - Build quality is amazing and sturdy and it feels a like a well finished product.Usage & weight - The lens is quite heavy and your hands and shoulders will hurt for prolonged use. If you already have shaky hands, think twice about the weight. You should probably rent this first before buying, which I wanted to as well, but I got the best deal on Amazon and I did not want to miss that.It's also a bit hard to zoom in and out with just 1 hand, and I haven't yet gotten used to that. The minimum focusing distance is high (almost 10 ft) and the switch to limit in which distance you want the lens to look for is a very practical addition, but may lead to a bad situation if a bird flies towards you.Packaging - Comes with it's own bag along with a lens hood, tripod mount, extra ring (to fill the gap if you remove the mount) and a few manuals.Picture quality - The picture quality seems a bit on the softer side compared to my Canon 55-250mm lens, but not a huge difference. Or maybe it could be that I may have shot on a lower shutter at the max focal length. A little post processing and you can achieve great results. For still subjects I've been shooting at around 1/500 or 1/640th of a second. For moving birds, with good light, I can go 1/1600th or faster. This made a huge difference in my images to get sharper bird picturesAutofocus - Love the autofocus in this lens especially in high contrast situations. Works amazing with my camera. I've been mostly shooting at the max focal length (960mm full frame equivalent)Over all, this is a really good purchase. I've mostly bought this for wildlife. With amazing light, maybe you could get some amazing portraits with amazing background compression as well. This is probably not for everyone. If you want to avoid cropping in a lot, this really helps.I saw quite a few mixed reviews about this. but end of the day, it all comes down to the person using it.I've attached a few pictures for your reference. There is always something to whish for, but for the money it is a great lens. Fast and sharp focus. Works perfect with my Canon 90D. Also with the 80D, so I expect it will work with every DSLR form Canon. It has some weight, but with the correct strap the combination body & lens is easy to carry and als easy to handle. I use the SunSniper Pro strap with a modified system to attach the body or lens to it. But the original system is just as good to carry it. My solution is only easier to switch between lenses: I carry this lens on it's own attachement, but the smaller lenses through the attachment on the body. So switching to and from this lens means also switching of the carrying point. Carrying this lens on it's own attachment point givis the combination a perfect balance.So, i spite of the weight I am very satisfied with this lens for which I also replaced my camera bag. The lenses' bag is not very handy. Don't throw it away, because it is handy when a frend wants to borrow yoyr lens and also in the unexpected case you want to sell it (or for replacement by Sigma's 60-600) this bag is handy to have. I am satisfied with this value for this money.

Très bon objectif ! Un peu lourd, mais la qualité est présente. D'abord utilisé sur un canon 2000d, puis passage sur un R7 + bague Ef rf, il est toujours aussi qualitatif. Quelques bugs au niveau de l autofocus qui saute car pas compatible avec le suivi de l oeil, mais c'est rarissime. Un peu capricieux en basse lumière, mais est indispensable si l on aime la photo animalière.
