What a difference!!!
I read various reviews about this "not working" and was concerned but thought I'd try it anyway. Plugged it in and... NOTHING!!!!... Now considering I had to pull my entertainment center aware from the wall and get behind to cable things up... I was a little miffed at this point... But then... I have HDMI cables going into a HDMI switch etc so I thought I'd start with the basics... straight into the TV. Still nothing.... The documentation makes no mention that there is a small hole in the case on the underside and I wondered what did that do... unplugged everything to get a better look but no idea... plugged it back in FIRMLY into the Dreamcast and bingo, the little hole was actually a BLUE LED and it lit up!!!! Checked the TV, Yup... I have a signal. Plugged everything back into the various switches and it was still all working great. Put everything back in place (moving my entertainment center back against the wall with its array of cables etc) and grabbed a handful of Sega games. The video quality difference between composite (The old yellow video cable and red-white sound) and the VGA to HDMI is very noticeable. That's hardly surprising as Dreamcast VGA is 480 lines (Comparable to DVD) and the composite in the Dreamcast is said to only be about 240 lines. I had previously used the composite (on a 4K TV) using a HDMI converter and to be honest I thought it was acceptable. However after trying the VGA-HDMI converter, the difference is night and day better. There is one unfortunate downfall.... As I discovered in my haste and enthusiasm to try games.... not all Sega games support VGA... You can't blame the VGA-HDMI converter for this but it is rather irritating. However, the volume of games I've tried thus far that fail are currently 1 failure out of 12 tested.... When you try to load the game it tells you it's not compatible with the display cable... It's a game I'm not bothered about so no biggee. I no longer have the old Dreamcast to VGA adapter as that bit the bullet years ago and I've not tried any other adapter to be able to compare against this one. I will say for $30 it was my upper limit of what I would pay for the feature and although there were others for $20, I liked the reviews on this one more. So for all the folks who had "bad" ones I wonder if you suffered the same issue I did when I first tried it... Not saying there couldn't be a bad one now and then. For all said, I'd highly recommend this unit. Just be aware the documentation is brief to say the least... and once the cable is plugged in, check the Blue LED lights on the underside of the unit. No LED, no workee... make sure the Dreamcast is powered up and try firmly reinserting the cable into the Dreamcast. UPDATE So after playing some of the VGA games, which I am really impressed with the quality, I switched back to the Composite to play a couple of games that I've subsequently found required that. Couple of them I do enjoy playing. Considering I had been using the composite for a long time before buying this adapter and I thought I was previously okay with the quality, I was stunned at the obvious drop in quality going back. Even the opening power on screen shows a clear loss in image quality. So being finicky, I've now set mine up so that by default I will play in VGA mode but with just a simple cable change in the back of the Sega Dreamcast I can revert to just the composite video for those games I really want to continue to play. You do have to power cycle the Dreamcast if you want to change back and forth. Just changing the cables doesn't work but that's no biggee. Still ecstatic at the improved quality using this adapter. Well worth the money. BTW, Played "Crazy Taxi" and "Silent Scope" both in VGA mode... damn even after all these years, the Dreamcast really does shine. I totally accept new consoles have HD graphics etc but it's the simplicity of the games not just the graphics that make them fun to play. Kudos on this adapter.

A great plug and play solution
I've been playing the Sega Dreamcast since 2006 with only standard video cables. While it looks good compared to it's competition at the time, it always could look better. The Dreamcast and the majority of titles released support what's known as VGA or (Video Graphics Array) which when connected gives the Dreamcast a resolution boost to native 480p. This device basically forces the Dreamcast into thinking it's putting out VGA on your HDTV and let me tell you the difference is stark. It makes games brighter and more vibrant, the detail is increased and the resolution boost is very noticable even as you boot the system on. Connecting the dongle is simple and easy and this is definitely a great alternative to more expensive cables/modding your console. The games that do support VGA look even better and I highly recommend this device if looking for a cheap solution. I did my research on other plug and play cords and this one was the best reviewed and has the best reputation that I could find. Definitely worth the $35!

Very good picture, just shy of perfect
Played both Sonic Adventure 2 and SoulCalibur, both looked great on my PAL Dreamcast. It didn't produce perfect picture, but the trade was definitely worth it. Great product, highly recommended.

Works great
3:4 VGA modes work super great! Most of the games that I've tried worked amazingly. The quality seems very decent. I didn't have. Achance to compare to any other outputs, but most colors seem to look good! I don't see any noise, besides the grey screens...sometimes on grey you can see some weird barely noticeable static or something. Otherwise I'd say a very good HDMI solution for your console ๐ฅ Downside: it's HUGE! So if you're trying to put your console in a tight spot - make sure you have space in the back!

UNUSABLE, UNNECESSARY, UNREVIEWABLE.
HORRIBLE. JUST SIMPLY UNUSABLE. VGA and RGBS output does not even register on any HDMI source Iโve tried. Monitors, TVs, External Portable Displays, every single one shows a blank or smudgy stretched image with little no feedback of picture, and the one time the picture did show was ONLY through RBGS with no color information except for GREEN. Do NOT waste your money with this cheaply manufactured adapter, just spend the money and wait time for a quality piece from a more reputable site or seller. The worst part is that the build is so cheap, itโs too light to even be a paperweight, so it canโt even be repurposed. Absolutely dreadful.

Must have if you want to connect your Sega Dreamcast to a modern tv or monitor.
I have it connected to my Viotek 32 inch 4k curved monitor and it looks pretty good. The best 480p probably can look on this monitor. I believe Kaico HDMI converter will work on probably almost any Samsung panel but don't quote me on that. I do know that older Samsung tvs were compatible with vga and dreamcast because I own a vga box that I used to connect to my old Samsung t260 hd. Now that I own a 4k 32 inch curved monitor I needed an hdmi to go with it. I did some research online and this was the cable people recommended. It was recommend to go with Kaico over Hyperkin and Pound Cable. People claim this has better colors and looks much better. I have seen reviews talking about sound issues with this hdmi cable but I cannot review that just yet because I need to get speakers for my monitor so I can hear the sound. If there's any sound issues I will come back and edit this review. I'm going to leave some photos I took with my Iphone 6. Update: I have no sound issues what so ever. I don't notice any hissing sounds like other reviews have said and It sounds great. There's nothing wrong with this HDMI adapter Dreamcast. I highly recommend it and the metal piece looks aesthetically pleasing to the eyes compared to plastic in my personal opinion. It gives a nice blue light off too which I always love when these things give a light off. My old retrobit vga box gave off a red light. List of games tested: Illbleed Blue Stinger Resident Evil Code Veronica Carrier D2 Zombie Revenge Dead or Alive 2

great product, does what it promises
Does what it says in product description and converts VGA to HDMI for your dreamcast. Works well but with everything dreamcast you may have issues playing some games with it since it converts VGA to HDMI and certain titles do not support VGA output

Plug and play has never been this easy
Iv'e purchased this adapter for my well beloved dreamcast. It's just mindblowing how good the resolution is on my LG smart tv with this retro console. Rayman 2 played like a charm and other games as well, The only little downside it's the little HDMI-brick 's size.. when you want to place your console under your TV it can be tricky to place everything without bending the cable. It's not such a big of a deal though cause if you're know what you're doing it shouldn't be a thing. Anyhow: great adapter, and beware: it's not an upscaler.
