MTM Survivor Dry Box with O-Ring Seal (Orange, Large)

This is a decent little dry box. It's not very big, so keep that in mind if you're considering this product. Personally, I was looking for a good portable dry box to store ammunition in without it getting too heavy, and this fits the bill. It's not ballistic by any means, but it is quite sturdy (I'm 175lbs and it supports my weight easily). The three clasps are also very sturdy and should definitely ensure that the box stays closed. It's also stackable; there are four little feet on the bottom that match up with the grooves on the top to provide some extra stability when stacking. This would prevent it from sliding around side-to-side, but it looks like it would still slide around considerably lengthwise since the grooves on top run all the way to the edge of the box on both sides. However, I can't really test this out since I've only purchase one so far. There are several places on the box where you can attach additional fasteners, ropes, or straps. There are two small padlock holes on the front of the box -- one on either side of the front clasp -- that you could use to connect a makeshift handle out of 550 cord or something. Also, on either side, there are two slightly larger holes (about 50% larger) that can handle something a little more substantial than 550 cord. Right next to these (and adjacent to the clasps on the sides) are a pair of 1 inch slots that can handle a nylon strap. One thing that's a little disappointing is how small the padlock holes are -- you'd only be able to use a very small lock. It would be nice if the two larger holes on the sides could also be used with a padlock, but they do not secure the body to the lid. I'm able to fit 600 9mm rounds plus 300 .22 rounds in this box. I unboxed the ammo and divided it all up into small plastic bags instead -- 50 rounds of 9mm ammo per bag and 150 rounds of .22 ammo per bag. This way I'm not confined by the dimensions of the ammunition's packaging, so I'm able to fit more in. An added bonus is that the ammo is now doubly protected from moisture. I put the fully loaded box on the scale and it came in right at 20lbs, which is plenty manageable. With this load, there is still a bit more room in the box since the lid extends up about another inch or so. I could probably fit at least 50 more 9mm rounds in there, and definitely a map or some other kind of small folded up document. This is a great drybox for boating use. I actually purchased the smaller version first and then bought this one after. The smaller version is just too small for my intended use as a first aid kit. This one is just the right size for a fairly good sized first aid kit. The overall construction is better than one would expect at this price. It closes very securely, due to having three latches. I would not say this is waterproof. It is water resistant. If you submerge it, I am sure water will eventually get in. However, splashing water and being in a moisture environment is ok. Add some desiccant packs inside and it will stay dry in there for months while stored on your boat. The compass didn't really work on the smaller version, but it works well on this one. Honestly, the compass was not a selling point for me, and should not be for you. Its just there and maybe it will be a last resort type of thing. The color gives this good visibility and worth the extra dollars over the green one if you need an emergency kit. The green version is hard to spot at night, as it is very dark green. Add some reflective white tape and stickers accordingly. I ordered some first aid kit stickers off Amazon and they actually stick to this quite well. It is mostly a non-smooth surface, but that sticker holds pretty well. It can kit a well-stocked 25 person first aid kit, with several small ointment tubes and a couple small bottle of medicine. Additionally, I can fit an instant cold pack, a mylar blanket and a small flashlight. Perfect for my needs.

I bought a battery jumper to keep in my car and it came in a cloth sack which does nothing to prevent the power buttons frombeing accidentally powered on for both the pack and built in flashlight, so I purchased this case to store the jumper. It fits perfectly and leaves room to toss in a couple of headlamps. Great quality for the price.

First, to explain the capabilities of this box, it's important to define terms. There are three basic categories of containers to protect from the elements. Waterproof containers will protect the contents down to some impressive depths underwater, from 20 feet on down for extended periods. Watertight containers will protect down to one yard for thirty minutes minimum. Finally, there is the MTM Survivor Dry Box, which is weather-resistant, meaning that it is not submersible at all, but it will protect from water pouring over the box (think rain) for quite some time. You definitely should not take this out boating or swimming, but you will be able to protect from humidity and moderate water running over it, as I demonstrate in my included video review. This box would be particularly handy for keeping items that are sensitive moisture and humidity, such as ammunition, smokeless powder, handguns, and primers. As for the construction, there are three latches, and it has two small holes around the center latch that allow padlocks to secure the box, and there are also two slots between the center latch and the side latches that would serve as a way to lash the box down with cord. The hinge is all plastic, and there is a soft rubber gasket running along the lid, with the box itself having a slightly raised portion running along its rim to press against the rubber gasket to seal the box. There is a strip of reflective mylar on the bottom to serve as a kind of crude shaving mirror or signaling reflector. Finally, there is a small compass built into the lid near the center latch. The compass is the source of my one real criticism, since it intrudes into the interior space of the box by protruding into the inside of the lid by about a half inch. However, the box itself is very sturdy, with some reinforcing ribs in the lid, and the walls are surprisingly thick plastic. It's also worth commenting that it is made in USA, as all MTM products are, which I consider a nice selling point. I've been using MTM ammo boxes for decades now, and they work quite well; and as shown in the video, this box will easily hold two of their 50-round handgun cartridge boxes or one of their 50-round rifle cartridge boxes. I bought two of these, one for myself to store ammo and other related items, and the other for my daughter at college, with hers loaded with cookies, tea, and some cash.

Perfect size, perfect color all at a great price PLUS Made in USA. Quality seems sturdy enough and the 3 latch locking keeps contents secure n dry.

I bought one of these in Late 2022. Using it to store my SHTF radio equipment. I trust this to keep my equipment water-free in the event we have a water leak or massive flooding. It's got good size to it. I can fit a charger for the baofeng radio, cables, antenna, handset, radio itself, and 2 large extended capacity batteries. I like the attention to detail they made on this case. They put little guides for the hinges to run in, so that you don't get side-to-side movement when you go to close the case. The plastic is quite durable, and the latch seats firmly, making it waterproof with the incorporated seal. It's even got a compass built into the top - though, I'm not sure half the world even knows how to use one anymore! hah! There's 4 holes for padlocks so you can choose a good orientation to secure your box in. I really like the color and textured surface as well... It's a nice little addition that they didn't have to add to the mold but they did.

Good product for storing lots of things you want to keep dry, and protected.

I think that this box is intended for use as a first aid or other emergency kit. It seals very securely and would probably withstand any sort of abuse short of a sledge hammer. I thought that the compass was useless, but then I took it off the larger speaker beside another large speaker and their magnets and it seemed to read pretty true. This would not be my first choice for hiking but it would certainly be better than no compass. it does have tether points on each side so that you can lash it to something that will be easy to find when things go wrong. I use it for an everyday cigar humidor and it beats the fancy wooden boxes that are sold as humidors but cannot hold up against the 30% humidity that I struggle to keep in the winter. It is long enough for churchills and has enough room for and handful of each several types along with your humidifier. All around, it is well designed and made, seals well, and has solid latches.

Excelente caja, si bien no es sumergible sí evita la entrada de agua. En lo particular la uso para guardar la herramienta de la moto y queda todo perfecto, es bastante robusta y resistente y trae un par de agujeros para poner candado y que no la abra cualquiera. También la usé para meter la llave del cuarto, el celular y mi cartera en unas vacaciones y la dejé amarrada a un camastro y también muy bien, haha, queda todo seguro, sin que se moje y amarrado. Muy recomendable.

Benötige diese Box für meine Motorradreisen. Die Box scheint Wasserdicht zu sein und die Verschlüsse schließen gut. Bin sehr zufrieden.

Pensavo fosse più grande, La curvatura interna toglie un pò di spazio e non permette di inserire scatole squadrate. La bussola sopra il coperchio è un giocatttolino. Nell'insieme non è male. Non ho testato la water proof, ma non mi sembra molto stagna, se immersa. Consiglio di aggiungere una guarnizione interna.

Pretty good quality for the price. Perfect size for a 12Ah LiPO4 battery.
