Does not include licence for advanced features. Must buy separately from Rigol.
Basically good product but all advanced features must be purchased separately from Rigol for a mere $269. Zero support from Amazon. Buy it from an "authorized" distributor with licence included for the same price.

Decent scope, especially for the money
I think the MSO1104Z-S is a decent instrument. Not great, not terrible, but decent. Controls feel generally good, and it does everything I've asked of it so far. The fact that it can do protocol decoding at this price range is particularly nice (you do need to purchase the unlock code to do so, however). I will say that there are a few things that disappointed me about this instrument, however, and most come down to me not reading carefully enough, so I'm not going to completely trash this in a review.I knew going into this that the MSO1104 uses a 1GSa/s ADC that it multiplexes out to all 4 channels - this means that your effective sampling rate drops to 250MSa/s with all 4 channels enabled. This wasn't a big deal for me, as I bought this for hobby-level debug in my home lab, not as a precision instrument for professional work. What didn't seem well documented was that enabling the logic analyzer takes up 2 of your 4 channels, rendering this either a 2 or 3 channel scope with 16 or 8 logic channels. I can't say this has really hamstrung any projects I've worked on, but it still feels frustratingly limiting.Front panel - The front panel feels largely well thought out, there are a annoyances (naming a button "Auto" always trips me up thinking it's the Auto/Normal triggering selector), but my biggest gripe is a very small issue - the encoder used to modify text/quickly scroll through settings. I really, really, really wish this encoder had detents, rather than being a smooth-scrolling type. It's frustrating trying to scroll through steps (or keyboards) when there's no tactile feedback on where those steps are.Another nice to have would have been LED colors for the channel selectors that match the on-screen channel display, but now we're getting into real nitpicky stuff. All in all, I'm relatively happy with this. Since my purchase, there have been a couple other manufacturers (Rohde and Schwartz, for instance) who have released lunchbox scopes near this price range that seem maybe a little bit better, but I think the Rigol is still a solid pick.

The oscilloscope works great. No issues detected yet such as jitter common in older models when switching time bases by increments of 5.

nice scope although software crippled
i like the scope although i dont like the fact it comes as a crippled unit which if i want the extra features I must pay for them.I would think that after paying for this scope i would get the selling points that come with it for free such as the rs232 decoder or the i2c decoder.i have not had a long time with it so just using it for normal stuff was fine.maybe another brand would have the extra features installed and not crippled I might sell this one and but another brand if I find this to be true.

... logic analyzer yet but the scope seems to be fine for the price
I haven't tried the logic analyzer yet but the scope seems to be fine for the price, it seems decent. The user interface take a few minutes to learn. The OS is not like Tek nor Agilent. The only issue I have is I don't know how the firmware update and user manual can be obtained. For hobbyist is a good tool.
