Shark Corded Upright Vacuum Cleaner,0.83L, Pet Model, Navy/Orange, 750W

This has revolutionized my hovering! As a household with dogs and horses, managing pet hair has always been a challenge! I chose the corded version as it felt very substantial and had a good capacity. The cord is long enough to travel a good distance from the socket. The first time I used it, I thought Amazon had sent me a second hand product which was already full of pet hair! In 10 seconds it sucked up a phenomenal amount of pet hair which my previous vacuum obviously didn’t touch. I was seriously on the point of buying new carpets, but this vacuum has made them look like new! It’s extremely easy to use and the tools work very well. To me this product is worth every penny.

This is my second Shark vacuum cleaner and like the previous model I own it doesn’t disappoint. The Shark NZ801UKT ships with just enough accessories to enable you to tackle most jobs. A crevice tool has a brush attachment that slides up, and you get an upholstery brush, too. Both clip onto the body of the vacuum cleaner for easy storage. There’s storage onboard for the various accessories, you also get a Pet Power Brush, which is useful for smaller areas. It’s designed for picking up hair, although it works just as well on the stairs. It’s powered by airflow alone and is super-loud: I measured it at 91.9dB. It works wonders forcleaning stairs. The mini-brush is handy, but it’s loud! Personally I can put up with the noise though in order to get a thorough clean. That’s it in the box, and you miss out on the special edition’s car kit and under-furniture brush – although both can be bought separately if you want them. In both regular and Lift-Away modes, the 0.83l bin lifts out of the front. This exposes the washable filter, which should be cleaned regularly to keep the vacuum cleaner operating at its best. With the bin in hand, you can open the flap at the bottom to empty the dust. You can also open the top flap to clean out any stubborn dirt, although I found that I needed to give the cleaner a bit of a tap to get everything out. Emptying the ‘bin’ I find fairly easy to empty, although a sharp tap may be in order to get everything out Sucks up absolutely everything with ease. It moves easily between hard floors and carpets The Shark NZ801UKT is powered by a 750W motor, which puts this cleaner at the top of the suction table. In fact, there are times when the cleaner feels as though the vacuum is stuck to the floor in use: that airflow vent certainly comes in handy for some jobs. To test performance, I put the vacuum cleaner through my usual set of tests, starting with the carpet test. Here, I spread a teaspoon of flour on the carpet right up to the edge of the skirting board. Giving the vacuum cleaner a single pass through on carpet mode, the Shark NZ801UKT picked up the majority of the mess, leaving just a trace amount right up against the skirting; nothing that a quick blast through with the crevice tool didn’t fix. Moving to the hard floor, I initially sprinkled a teaspoon of rice onto the floor. Giving the Shark NZ801UKT a single pass through the mess, every bit of rice was removed following a single sweep, with the vacuum set to the hard floor mode. This shows the power of the DuoClean head and how it copes with various floor surfaces. All in all for the very reasonable price point I am super impressed. It copes well with dirt, pet hair, crumbs, etc with ease and leaves hard flooring merely needing a mop over to ensure a thorough clean.

So we’ve had a number of major manufacturers vacuums over the last years all falling short of the hype with significantly higher prices. Our last vacuum anti tangle cat n dog was the biggest heap of expensive hard to manoeuvre junk that while sticking to the carpet and making me feel like I’d done 10 rounds with Mike Tyson vacuuming it clearly sucked up not a lot. This vacuum is brilliant, powerful, detachable in many ways, bagless and while quite heavy easily manoeuvrable. Embarrassingly so for our previous top end cat n dog vacuum we only cleaned our lounge 4 days ago. Had enough of it and bought this beauty. Having not been in the lounge since vacuuming the amount of dust / grit this thing sucked up the other had left behind was nothing short of a disgrace. Ok uprights are not for everyone but if unsure all I can say is this is possibly the best vacuum we’ve ever owned at half the price of other allegedly top end vacs - this seriously cleans up not only from the carpet but also IMO the competition.

Read a lot of reviews before deciding on this machine. My biggest worry was the weight and yes it is quite heavy. I am 81 and 5ft 2in and it is also quite tall. My heart sank as I assembled it but it is such a handsome thing I had to try it. Like many other reviewers I had an old Miele cylinder and a cordless upright and felt I wasn't getting a good clean with either of them. My fears were dispelled as soon as I ran it over the carpet. The suction is amazing and the fluff and grit in that first try had to be seen to be believed. Success then. Delighted. The instructions suggest reducing suction if it is hard to manoeuvre and I think this will work for me. Early days but so far so very good. The tools that came with it seem to be relevant too. I haven't tried the stairs yet but I think the pet hair tool will be good for that using the lift away function -also very good. Another major plus is the very quiet motor. The only reason I haven't given it 5 stars is the weight.

I've had my Shark for a month now. I held off reviewing it because at first I found it so different from the type of cleaner I was used to (being old and unadventurous) I found it quite intimidating, especially the way it comes to pieces. I've got used to it now and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT! The list of admirable features goes on and on, how light it is, how quiet it is, how versatile it is, how clever it is and how easy to empty it is. Even unexpected things like how it not only vacuums the hard floors but gives them a little polish at the same time, lovely. I've been amazed that although it's small and light the quantity of dirt and dust it picks up is remarkable, my living room carpet is looking (and feeling) better than it has for years. There are only two very minor things I would change - I found it difficult, without my reading glasses which I don't wear for vacuuming, to tell the difference between the on/off switch and the release button for the lift away motor, I was constantly "lifting away" when I didn't mean to but I've cured this with a dab of red nail varnish on the power switch. I do wish, however that the manufacturer had used a more flexible power cable, it would be so much easier to keep it out of the way if it would only coil up more sensibly, but that's my only quibble. Thanks you Shark people for designing an absolute winner. Highly recommend (and relatively inexpensive too).

We've been due to buy a new hoover for quite some time and now that our daughter is strating to crawl around the house we wanted to make sure the floor is as clean as possible. We always had a cylider vacuum before but it's not so great in our flat as there is a long stair and split level too. After many days of research we realised that an upright hoover is probably better for our needs and determined to buy this model. The main reason for this brand was the "lift away" feature although other brands offer this feature as well. We originally wanted to go for the cheaper model - NV601UK - but this one was on such a sale that we couldn't say no. We don't have pets but would like a dog in the future so we figured if this is as good a hoover as they claim we may as well invest in the top of the range model and this should be still around when we get the dog. It's not like you can't use the pet hair remover tool until, it's perfectly good for human hair as well as dirt set deep in the carpet. Assembly was very easy and intuitive. Everything locks in with a satisfying pronounced click so you're never left wondering if the parts are connected properly. The design is not my favourite I find a Dyson much more elegant. This is not bad either but the shark logo is quite tacky, especially the plastic pretending to be chrome around the branding. Well it's a hoover and it's going to spend most if the days in the cupboard and will only be visible when someone is using it so we can live with it. One thing I particularly like is the fact that all the buttons can be used one handed. An example if you want to detach the wand, you press the detach wand button, it's easy, don't need two hands. It unlocks the wand that can be taken out one handed, no twisting and pulling. I was very surprised when I turned it on, it's so quiet. Our Dyson is of an older one and it's proper loud compared to this one. It's probably due to the new(ish) EU regulations that requires all manufacturers to keep the noise levels under 80 decibels. It's not easy to imagine loudness by decibels (for most of us anyways) so I'm just going to say it again, it's quiet! All the controls are on the handle -switch between hard floor and carpet and suction power slider - and I find these extremely easy to reach. Suction power slider should be adjusted to lower setting if you have a fluffy thick carpet and higher if you have a coarse carpet. If set correctly you should be able to move the hoover without much effort. One feature that I didn't see on competing brands is the headlights. I thought these as gimmick at first but they are surprisingly handy actually. They can illuminate under furnitures easily. I attached a photo because I wanted to show everyone how good this hoover is. Before trying this, I hoovered the living room with the old Dyson. Then immediately I hoover again with this. The result is on the photo. It's shocking to see how much more dust was in the carpet that the old one couldn't pick up. I'm not here to shame Dyson, this is a very old hoover compared to a brand new and I'm sure it would have been similar result with any new decent hoover. It just shows that old hoovers don't necessarily do a good job but we get use the loss of performance over the years. I found the lift away function as useful as they claim it. One press of a button and you can lift out the pod and carry on with the hoovering. This is extremely useful for hoovering under the bed or hoovering the stairs, ceiling. It basically eleminates the limited mobility problem of upright hoovers. The powered brush bars can be used in the lift away mode as this model has got the more advanced "powered lift away" function that allows this. The duo clean head is brilliant and picks up everything effortlessly. The anti hair wrap technology does its job seemingly, I didn't find any tangled hair on the brush rollers. It does say in the manual that even you see hair tangled on the roller, ignore it and it will make its ways eventually to the dust collector. Speaking of dust collector it's rather small, only 0.8 litre capacity so you will need to empty it often, it doesn't bother me especially because it's so easy to empty it. The cord is 8 metres long, there are other makes with longer and other makes with shorter lead, this sits right in the middle, I found it adequate. There is no cable retractor, but there are two hooks on the pod to reel the cable on it. The hoover is 6.5 kg total which I find lightweight and the pod itself is even lighter, it's really no effort to move around the house with it. The included tools are all good, just the standard stuff, nothing fancy, just what you need to clean the house, car etc. To sum it up, I'm extremely happy with this purchase. This hoover is not cheap, but you can save over £100 when on sale. It cleans extremely well, it's lightweight and mobile. It's got handy accessories and superior duoclean head that really makes a difference when hoovering. I'm sorry if the review got too long but there are so many things to say about and I wanted to cover everything. Highly recommended! Update after using it for 6 months: I still love the hoover no complaints from me. I don't know why some reviewers complain about the anti hair tangle function not working, mine works perfectly fine I never had to clean the brush. The only thing I noticed so far is how easily the paint gets scratched off of the head as you push the hoover alongside the skirting board. For me it's not a big deal, as I mentioned before it's an item that spends most of the time in the cupboard anyway, but for £300 you'd expect something more durable. It doesn't hinder the functionality though. Still recommended!

TL;DR: if you have fluffy animals/humans, get this Shark. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For the long review: I was already sold on this, by a good friend, but the Black Friday deal (got it for £200), and the fact that our Dyson has finally had it (it has bi-annual services, as we have five fluffy animals and several fluffy humans in the house) made me wap out the credit card and treat us to a new vaccum. I haven't noticed any cons, but I do have some niggles- absolutely not deal-breakers, but slight annoyances. Niggles: 1-I wish it had a retractable cord, but that's something our last three Dysons (of 4) didn't have, either, so just a minor thing that would make life easier. 2- The hose clip pops out by itself all the time. This doesn't affect the machine, but is a bit annoying when the vacuum's in upright mode and the hose is hanging away from the handle. 3-The attachments are clonky. This niggle is probably just from us being used to Dyson attachments that click on very satisfyingly and with no effort, but I was surprised to find that you have to just jam the attachments onto the nozzle. A bit last century! 4- As others have said, the dust capacity is quite limited, although I think this does the job of protecting the filter, so it's forgiveable. For those of us with fluffy animals (3 samoyeds and 2 ragdolls) it means that the fluff tumbleweeds on hard floors and the mashed in fluff on stairs results in emptying the dust compartment every 5 minutes, because fluff doesn't sit flat, so it reaches the top quicker than dust. It's coat-blowing season, though, so this is the worst it'll get. 5- when the stair tool is on, the relatively quiet machine suddenly sounds like a chainsaw! This doesn't bother me, as it's clearly because it's a powerful vacuum and quite frankly, my stairs need the torque! Apart from #1, all of these niggles have a trade-off, because the pros far outweigh them, in my opinion! 1- the attachments are clonky, BUT, the silicone "brush" (more like a floppy squeegee) on the stair attachment leaves the Dyson turbine tool in the dust (pun intended) as you can see in the clip- it literally leaves a rectangle of clean, which makes all the difference in a very dusty old house. Hardly any elbow grease required, the stairs (a favourite spot of the ragdolls) were done in half the time and looked cleaner than the Dyson ever managed. It's brilliant that this tool is included, rather than having to pay another £40, as you do with Dyson. 2- The separate rollers for each floor make all the difference. We often have to sweep AND hoover our oak floors (again, blame the samoyeds- when the mud dries off them it leaves a film on the floor), and the floors usually look wrecked even after mopping. The silicone roller acts like a buffer, so it gets a LOT more dust up, and you can see where the floor has been waxed. This is evident by the fact that when we then mop the floor, the bucket water stays cleaner much longer, so fewer water changes, and therefore more water saved, which is a lot, as we have to mop our floors 4-8 times a week. On carpet, the Shark picks up all the cat fluff that's been stomped in, that the Dyson would not get- we sometimes had to use a rubber brush to pull it up before vacuuming! Again, this means half the effort, half the time and twice the result! 3- The white headlights (something I didn't expect) show up fine white dog hairs I wasn't seeing with the room lights on (or daylight!) so this also meant I wasn't missing any fluff that would turn into tumbleweeds. This has definitely meant the rooms have stayed fluff-free for longer than usual. 4- The lift-away feature is a game changer, and definitely makes it easier to get the stairs done quickly (and safely enough for my 10 and 11 year olds to do, once the novelty wears off for me), and to carry around whilst getting cobwebs off the ceiling with the long brush tool. 5- did I mention the stair tool? Ok, I did. Ok, what about all the nice little easy buttons? I'm not sure why the tools don't click on, as per Niggle #3, but all the other functions/modes are controlled by very ergonomic buttons/switches that are labelled, which helps 38 year old brains, when you're doing the vacuum cleaner equivalent of going from Windows to Apple. Probably scraping the barrel on benefits now, but as you've probably guessed, James Dyson won't be getting my money anymore, or that of anyone else who's brave enough to risk asking me for vacuum recommendations.

Ok i’ve left some time to give this review to give a proper review. I’ve had this shark since Jan now. I had prior to this a dyson animal cordless and my god you notice the difference in power. I wanted an upright corded as got fed up of blockages and I’m so glad I did as now get none! The suction is so much better and you can see the difference on my carpets. I actually didn’t realise how bad my dyson had got until I got this! It’s easy to use. Flick a switch to go between hard and carpeted floors. Another switch for max or less suction (less is good for mats, carpet treads as max is too much for them). Push a button to lift off the waste bit and another for the hose so you have your ‘liftaway’ this is great for stairs and doing ceilings as have added parts you can attach. Will say the loft away doesn’t stand up well so on the stairs I have to try and balance it as I clean them which has resulted in the machine falling down the stairs! To get rid of the waste you just squeeze 2 buttons to detach and then click back to release the waste. Waste chamber is small but I can do whole house a few times without issues as only have a standard size house. First time I hoovered this chamber was FULL just from the downstairs, but now that I’ve used this hoover more I don’t get as much, so just shows how much my last hoover was missing even with daily hoovering! Don’t need to charge as you plug in, which can be a pain but I just need to get use to a cord again. The cord is reasonable. I can do all the downstairs on one plug and the upstairs on another, but if you had a large house you would need to swap plugs. If the cord was longer though I feel it would be annoying as trip over it as it is. Would be good for it to be on a system where the cord is stored inside the hoover (like a Henry) and extends as you use it, then goes back in when not extended (note to Shark design team!). Otherwise very happy. Haven’t noticed a drop in power as others have said, but still early days. Would 100% recommend :)

This is an excellent vacuum! All the different ways to use it are extremely well thought out and allows me to get into any and every nook and cranny.

We bought this model on amazon.com.au from the UK Shark seller. Worked great (we have fluffy dogs) until head unit stopped rolling and lights no longer worked after about 10 months. Rang Australia distributor, they confirmed the fault but couldnt replace as it was UK model. Rang UK, and they stated that because I was in Australia, all warranties are automatically voided, which "apparently" is clearly stated on their website (however the customer service couldnt point me to any clause evenly closely resembling that). The warranty was a selling point as still is clearly advertised on amazon with a 12 month > 5 year warranty.
