Women's Victorian Rococo Dress Inspration Maiden Costume

I bought this '1791's lady Women's Victorian Rococo Dress Inspration Maiden Costume' (Blue, X-Small) for my daughter for Halloween. When I first took it out of the package, I was a little discouraged because it seemed huge and there was so much material, but it turned out to be absolutely stunning. Even though I got the smallest size available, it was still too big for my petite and slim 14yo daughter (4'11" and under 90 lbs). She was able to put it right on without even unzipping it on the side, but we love it so much that we are determined to make it work! I tightened the laces in the back until they couldn't be tightened any tighter, had her wear my old chunky, high-heeled lace-up boots for the extra height, and had her put on a petticoat underneath (not included) to prevent the dress from dragging on the floor. With just a little bit more work, I think it will be perfect. It really needs a crinoline or 6-hoop/full-length petticoat underneath to make it more "pouffy" (which we just ordered). In the picture, she is wearing a 3-hoop petticoat, which is not long enough because you can tell where it ends by the way the dress drapes over it. Also, the choker is too loose for her neck, so I plan on cutting off the excess length at the back of the neck and adding a velcro closure to replace the ribbon. I might even remove the ruffle from the choker for a more delicate look. All the colors are pretty but glad we went with the Blue. The Blue is vibrant yet gothy and does not give off a witchy or vampirey or even Christmasy vibe like the other colors might. Overall, it really is excellent quality for the price and not itchy like other costumes tend to be. I will be returning two other similar costumes since, when she put this one on, we just knew this one was the keeper.

Super fun for a costume event. Costume quality so not high end, but looks nice. Like that adjustable so fits many body sizes.

Pretty dress! It fit well. I used a full petticoat underneath. The material hangs well but isn’t super thick. Funny thing however… 6 women showed up at our event wearing the same dress in different colors!

I am a teacher in an elementary school and my favorite part is dressing up for the holidays. I bought this because of the value for the price, the color, and style. The color was very rich and the size was perfect. There were no zippers to mess with, as it laced up the back. It was a nice soft fabric, but it had very little stretch to it. I was exactly what I wanted, and I would recommend the purchase. I’m looking forward to changing it up and wearing it again, maybe next time as a vampire, or throw on a powdered wig. Great versatile costume.

Extraordinarily clever pattern makes this dress passable for Victorian or even Edwardian costumery, POSSIBLY could be made to work for Rococo period, depending on how you select an undergarment and how you accessorize it. I bought one of the cheaper hoop skirt slips, so I made this work for 1860's. If you bought or made a bustle, this could pass for 1870's. If you can get your hands on a good substantial bumpad, you could probably get away with making this dress work for Marie Antoinette/Enlightenment/1780's, but again accessories and hairstyle/millenery will be crucial, as the colors are a bit more Victorian. (You may need white lace, for example). Definitely cheesy synthetic fabric, but the blue fabric was eye-catching and I received many compliments on it. I ordered a large, very glad I did. I am really more of a medium, like a Misses size 10, and the shoulders and hips were just right for me. Rest of torso can be adjusted by using the lace-up back, which was a godsend for me, keeping my bustline and waist snug. Anyway, this will pass the "squint" test, but make it work with careful accessorizing (easy to do a little research online for period fashions).

My dress is gorgeous. This is my second dress. The first dress was beautiful but too small. I had to check the size chart and odored another dress which is the right size and it’s beautiful. One picture is with a petticoat and the other is with a bustle.

The fit is great. It has a label saying hand washable in cold water, instead of dry clean, as stated in product description. The other colors of same item don’t have a laundry tag. It is VERY long. I’m 5’6” and there’s a good 3-4 inches extra length. I look forward to seeing it with a hoop slip.

I love this dress and really hope I get the chance to wear it again! Otherwise, perhaps we can get enough people together and start a countrywide fashion trend? Because I really think I was born in the wrong era. lol I am 4'10 and wore it with a black hoop-less petticoat underneath. Along with some black flats. I wear a size 6-8 on average and ordered a size Small. It fit perfectly. It came with several black ribbons, which was nice, because you could use them in your hair, or even as a choker, like I did. The one that came with the dress was a tad too big for me, but if you were creative, you could probably use it in your hair somehow. Anyway - great quality for the money and totally would wear it every day if I could! lol. I have tried to write this review FIVE times and attach a photo - and good 'ol Amazon's systems errors out.
