Fun RC Car With Easy to Use Video Recording
I couldn’t wait for the DE36w car to come in the mail. I’ve never had an RC car with a video cam before, and since it was the first I’ve had with a mounted camera, I wasn’t disappointed! I can’t tell you how much fun I had with this car. The car transmits video via wifi to your smartphone (or tablet) and I was able to get them synced up really easy. I have a Samsung Galaxy S9+ and it connected without issue. The instruction booklet that came in the box told me about the DEERC D2 app, which I had no idea even existed. But man is it cool! The app is available in the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store and was a breeze to set up. I was surprised to see that I could even control the DE36w car from my phone with the app – no controller required! Using the controller handset made it easier for me to control the car, but I might just need more practice controlling it with my phone. The DE36w came with a phone mount to attach my smartphone to the controller handset, so I didn’t have to worry about carrying around a controller and my phone to be able to see the transmitted video. Attaching the phone to the controller made it a little top-heavy, but my phone (the Samsung Galaxy S9+ as mentioned above) isn’t the lightest. A lighter phone, like an iPhone, would be perfect. I imagine the app could be downloaded to a tablet, too, since it’s available for Apple and Android, which makes it ultra flexible to use. The car handled as I expected and was fun to drive. The turns were a little wider than I thought – it didn’t turn “on a dime.” But controlling the DE36w was simple. Connecting the battery was simple, too. It slid right into the battery compartment and the cables snapped together. I was glad to see the USB charging cable was long enough to plug in without worrying about stretching the battery cables. Plus, it has a red LED light that flashes to indicate when it’s charging, and the light turns off when fully charged so you always know when your car is ready to go again. I did personally have an issue with the camera but it was my own fault. With the camera producing its own wifi, you have to stay within its range to give yourself good video quality. I let the car get away from me and - as you can see with the video and my driving habits while recording - I’m pretty bad at that. But with a 720P camera, the video quality is pretty good. The DE36w RC car would make a great gift for kids starting around 7 to 10 years. Maybe younger if they have experience with RC cars. Teens would love this car, too, since it could connect to their smartphone (teens love anything to do with a phone, right? HA!). Although any adult would think this RC car was pretty cool, too. The camera produces quality video to share “go-pro” style with your friends and on social media. I’m super glad I bought this car!

Great fun at a surprisingly low price!
When I was a kid remote control cars were expensive, and large ones with any kind of power and quality were REALLY expensive. In the movie “Home Alone 3” the main character duct-taped a big old camcorder to his RC car and we kids thought he was both a genius and a visionary. Fast forward to today and now you can buy a really nice RC car with a wifi CAMERA on it for well under a hundred bucks(!) What a time to be alive. So can something so reasonably priced actually be that good? In the case of this particular car, the answer is “Yes!”. This RC car is just great. For the price I can hardly believe the attention to detail. The car itself is sturdy and has a cool design. The interior has seats and a steering wheel. The tires are actual squishy rubber and the car’s suspension actually works (if you watch the slow-motion parts of my video you can see the suspension working) I’ve only played with the camera app a little bit so far but it worked just fine on my android phone and I could either drive the car with the app or just view the camera with the app and drive via the controller. They send a phone mount for the controller so you can easily view the camera feed while driving and the quality of the camera is surprisingly good. The battery charger is easy to use, I like things that charge via USB as it just makes life simpler. The car is really fun to drive, fast and just a blast to zip it around inside or outside. I would recommend this to anyone, it puts a smile on any kids face from age 5 to 95, everyone gets a kick out of a good remote control car and you can’t beat the price on this one for what you get.

Issues at first, but great fun RC car now
UPDATE 12-16-19: In full transparency, the company reached out to me about the issues with the privacy of the app and the car I received and went above and beyond to make things right. At the time of my original review I was using the android app and have recently switched to IOS. The company stated it was an issue with the app and that the app had been updated. I can confirm for IOS the app appears to be working properly and does NOT ask for microphone access. Also, I stated in my original review I was having issues connecting to the camera. Before writing this update I have used the new camera repeatedly by turning off and on connecting and disconnecting from the WI-FI multiple times with the camera working properly each time. Also, I mentioned in my previous review, but I thought it was worth mentioning again. I was pleasantly surprised of the video quality of the camera. I was expecting the video to be very grainy, but very surprised how good the video quality actually was. So for the new car has been working great and look forward to more fun times with it. The RC car itself worked fine, but the biggest issue is the camera and your privacy. I purchased this to drive under the crawlspace of my house. I thought it would be a good way to inspect without having to crawl under the house, but there were problems from day one and it was the camera. 1.) Phone App wants Microphone access, but does not record sound - You have to download an app (android in my case) to operate the camera and you can also control the car via the app. Once the app is installed and launched it forces you to give the app microphone access. The camera does not record sound and there is not reason for microphone access to be granted. I tried denying microphone access and the app would not work with out it. This is a huge privacy concern. 2.) The camera worked 3 out of 10 times - If you can connect to the camera and stay connected to the camera the actual quality is not that bad. After several attempts the camera would not stay connected even after rebooting the phone several times and connecting on and off to the RC Car's Wi-FI. I use my phone with other apps with camera interface like DJI, GoPro, Canon Camera and others that connect through a Wi-FI signal and no issues except this camera. Overall, the car itself isn't bad, but my issues with it was mostly the camera and app. The app may be a different for IOS, but after so many failed attempts with the camera not connecting to the app and the even larger issue with forcing microphone access it simply was worth it to me and I had to return it. In full transparency, the company reached out to me about my issues with the privacy of the app and the car I received. At the time of my original review I was using the android app and have recently switched to IOS. The company said it was an issue with the app and that the app had been updated. I can confirm for IOS the app did NOT ask for any access to my microphone and it appears to have been fixed. Also, I stated in my original review I was having issues connecting to the camera.

Fun to use!
I was actually pretty hesitant on buying this even though the reviews were overall good - there were just some stand-out negative reviews that made me hesitate before clicking the purchase button. It arrived neatly packaged and easy to assemble (camera and batteries) and the car and remote control were actually a lot more sturdier than I expected. It's got a bit of weight to it so I was honestly pretty impressed because the ones that I've seen friends and family play with always seemed so flimsy and plastic. I was most impressed by the wheels (I drove it over some big extension cords and random objects on the ground and it went over them like it was nothing). A few reviewers mentioned the suspensions of the wheels and yes, I found them pretty cool as well! The controls are definitely very sensitive but you get used to it pretty quickly and it honestly isn't that bad as some reviews mentioned. I've never owned or played with a remote control car in my adult life (super cheap ones in my childhood, yes), so take it from me, you pick up the controls quickly. It isn't that hard. The only somewhat negative thing I would say about this product is the app for the phone (which isn't even the physical product itself) - at times it was very slow/laggy, but that's all I really have to say about it, just took a few seconds to load and it was running smoothly again. I like the camera feedback quality, it's actually good for the price in my opinion (I was expecting the images to be more fuzzy/blurry). Side-note, originally, I planned to purchase this to use under our house to see if there's any critters living in the crawl space - I ended up not using this since my brother and I just opened up the crawl space and looked through it ourselves, which leads me to my next point that it would be nice if they installed some kind of light to the car. I played with the car in the house with dimmed lights (and natural lighting in our long hallway) and it was already difficult to see what the camera was capturing. So I purchased two small flashlights and attached it to the car, it worked amazing and the camera was able to capture clearer footages of its surroundings. Overall, I love the quality for the price! I definitely think I got a little more than what I paid for, so that makes me happy! I was planning on reselling this after using it for our house's crawl space, but I'm keeping it for the fun of it :)

Won't drive on grass.
It's a good toy, the product is well built and the camera gives a good picture. My only problem with it was that I couldn't drive it around in my yard, because it's so low to the ground that it couldn't drive through the grass it would just spin the tires. If you're only going to use it on flat ground or in the house it should work fine. But outside terrain could be tricky.

Good starter car for intro to FPV and hard-surface play.
After having a poor initial experience, the retailer has reached out to us to make amends and all is well. Following is an updated review of the product’s performance: The car has FPV and works with both FPV from your smartphone or by the remote. I find the remote more fun to drive with and leave the camera detached unless we’re wanting it on. It works great on hard surfaces and indoors, but is a little light for how powerful it can be on a full charge so it tends to slide around on smooth surfaces and concrete. It is sometimes possible to drive in the rough, but it don’t expect it to be useful for off road: we got it to be almost controllable on a hard dirt/fine gravel path but it didn’t have the ground clearance or weight to handle the grass or wood chips at the park we tried it at. Freshly charged it is very quick and responsive. It comes with two batteries and with both together we got about 30 minutes of continuous driving in before we packed it up to head home, neither fully run down but we swapped when the first started getting sluggish rather than shutting off. The FPV camera does what it does, but image quality isn’t super. This is fine with us we just use it for fun, and a small action cam with better video quality wouldn’t be hard to procure. The body is awesome, very detailed and sturdy. I picked this for the body alone and it doesn’t disappoint. If I were to get more into RC I’d be likely to try to keep the body and upgrade the chassis. Overall, it’s a great fun little car. Don’t expect it to perform like one that costs hundreds of dollars, but it’s seems like a better value for the performance than stuff in the same price range at local stores we’ve gotten before and been disappointed in.

HolyStone/DEERC bring their drone quality to RC cars
Unboxing: No pesky nylon fishing wire here, just 2 screw on plastic clips and that's it - freedom! OK, pet peeve - screws on battery covers... why??? But they give you a screwdriver so result! The biggest bonus in the box is a spare battery pack.. more on battery life later. No AAs for the controller though... take note. The controller is basic, forward, reverse on the trigger and a wheel for steering... slightly weird as the wheel moves forward and back to control side to side steering. The camera module is easy to install, if you want to use it. You'll need a TF micro SD card if you want to record onboard video. This truck is pretty much drivable straight out the box.. connect up the battery pack, chuck 4 AAs into the controller and vroooom! Driving experience So, this thing is quick on tarmac.. seriously quick! Controller range is about 100ft so keep an eye on that. Suspension is bouncy and so are the tires so "off road" the 36W is bouncy... very bouncy. It can handle rough terrain, but will get bogged down in loose surfaces like dirt or gravel. Bodywork seems quite resistant to abuse... ours suffered no real damage after being thrown around for 45 minutes... that's right, you get 40-45 minutes of crazy, highspeed bonkersness from a single battery pack.. and you have two of them!! Conclusion Awesome!! A great introduction to RC cars for kids of all ages and grown ups too. The same quality as HS/DEERCs drones and more in the box than you get with many similar RC cars.

Very simple RC car with very simple camera
This RC car with camera was primarily purchased to investigate the crawlspace beneath a house cause spiders. Sadly out of the box, it didn't have the prowess to traverse the plastic under the house but was still able to accomplish the mission. I couldn't find the instructions when I was ready to use it, but found "DEERC D2" mentioned in a review leading to download that unremarkable app. *Note: When connecting to the car-camera using WiFi (not Bluetooth) ensure your VPN doesn't prevent app operation like it did with me until I figured it out. There are NO forward facing LEDs on this RC car regardless of what pictures or certain mentions of "LEDs" may suggest. I was able to slip a headlamp around part of the car to get around that deficiency. When driving across mowed grass, the car bounces consistently making video feeds almost unwatchable. Driving is also difficult as this doesn't have the weight or power that other hobby RC cars might have. While this RC car has several speeds (forward and backwards) controlled by distance trigger actuated it does not have gradual steering but instead turns all the way left or right as the wheel is turned in each direction. Haven't played enough to compare battery life against advertised totals but so far it seems to be doing well. Some extra weight might help with the excessive bouncing and traction problems but would impact battery life for sure. Controls are simple enough and not a horrible first RC car but could be outgrown quickly. Extra battery shipped with the unit is nice to keep the enjoyment running longer. Unless I am missing something, the phone app must be used to take photos as well as start/stop video recordings. Nothing seems to be stored on the phone but decent sized files on the MicroSD card (not included) which is inserted (metal terminals up) into the back of the camera. Also included is a mount that clicks into the top of the controller but doesn't work very well for larger cell phones. Price - capabilities - functionality- ease of operations are there to earn the 4-star rating. Could easily justify 3-stars rating but was mostly as advertised in the description.
