The Other World is calling from beyond the veil ...
By 1978 all remnants of psychedelia were gone from mainstream popular music (basically the USA & UK), prog rock had become hopelessly overwrought & bombastic, and acid-folk was at the fringiest fringes of the fringe at best. Yet in Europe, Germany in particular, all three of those musical forms combined to create a pastoral, trippy, often melancholy but beautiful genre. Call it a wellspring of German Romanticism, if you like. This solitary album from Carol of Harvest exemplifies that genre with its lovely & slightly haunted female vocals, its exquisite guitar work, and its flowing, frequently soaring & trippy keyboards. It's a remembrance of the recent musical past & culture, a continuation of it, and a bittersweet farewell to it. This music inspires dreaming, reflection, memories … the German phrase "weltschmerz" captures its essence to perfection. But don't let that possibly academic description put you off! First & foremost, this is beautiful, thoughtful, quietly passionate music that summons up those deeper, ghostly emotions that we all feel at times, but that seldom find any expression in our fast-paced world. This is the soundtrack for just those times … most highly recommended!

A Masterpiece of an album from 1978!
Anyone that loves progressive rock with absolutely beautifully played guitar, keyboards, and all other instruments will adore this fantastic gem of an album, not to mention the gorgeous and awesome vocals by female vocalist Beate Krause who sounds absolutely wonderful throughout this classic 1978 album, and believe me, this is a classic that must be heard by any fans of prog rock with a touch of acid/folk to make this as good as anything you'll ever hear! I got this by just reading reviews from several websites, and every site just RAVED about this album and how much of a gem it is! Get this, you can't go wrong! Glenn Signal Hill, CA USA

What a beautiful album!!!!
This is not a pop or a mainstream album, this music falls under the folk/prog/psych/symphonic range for those interested in progressive rock music. The band is from Germany but vocals are in English from 1978. The lead vocalist is a female and brings to mind early Renaissance at times but do not fully sound like that band. The music concists of 5 tracks, Put on your Nightcap is a 15 minute stunner which features great moog, acoustic guitar and melodic lead guitar. The lyrics are very moving. The music is not involved, just symphonic and beautiful and at times, a bit melancholy. The name of the band brings to mind the mood of the album, the fall season and fits well. Being an older release from Germany, the sound is fantastic. The 3 tunes in the middle are just as good but slightly lower then the fantastic opener. The last tune brings us back to the first track's mood. Try a little bit is more of the great symphonic melodic vocals, moogs, acoustic and electric guitars. This is an essential release for progressive rock fans and can be compared to bands such as Spring, Renaissance, Mellow Candle, Novalis, Pentacle, Trees, Mellow Candle, Gracious, Cressida and Beggar's Opera.

Carol Of Harvest - self-titled (Second Battle)
Originally released in 1978, as this was the obscure German progressive / folk band's sole record. Here, we get the lp's initial five songs + three added bonus (live) tracks. Couple of note-worthy tunes include the sixteen-minute opener "Put Me On Your Nightcap" (featuring some beautiful folk guitar with Sandy Denny-like vocals), the majestic "Treary Eyes" and the ten-minute "Try A Little Bit". Personnel: Axel Schmierer - guitars, Beate Krause - vocals, Heinz Reinschlussel - bass, Jurgen Kolb - keyboards and Robert Hogn - drums. Might possibly appeal to fans of Hoelderlin's Traum, EMTIDI and possibly Jane.

Schade. Wer als seine Sammlung noch rechtzeitig erweitert hat, darf sich glücklich schätzen. Indes ist Viny-Kauf purer Luxus. Pedro

Cd was even better than I had hoped .
A hidden treasure from the early 70's folk prog scene that was under appreciated but is enjoying a new life in part due to its inclusion on youtube . Think " Renaissance " , female vocals , keys , acoustic guitars with wonderful melodies . Should have been better promoted in its time .
