NOAA Weather Radio FM AM Shortwave, Emergency Radio 5000mAh Solar Crank

Wasn't there for me when needed. Stay away. I bought this radio last October in anticipation of winter power outages in Vermont. I charged it up fully and tested it for a few days. Everything worked well. I set it aside on a windowsill with the small solar panel facing south in order to keep the battery charged. When a recent power outage happened, I had to push the "power" button at least 20 times to turn it on. Then struggled to get the local radio station. Finally, I could not turn the thing off, regardless of how many times I pushed the power button. My finger was numb by the time I was able to shut this radio off. I then tried to start it and experienced the same problem. I am no longer counting on this thing to be there for me in an emergency. You best look elsewhere. Important Update: After posting my initial negative review I emailed the company's customer service department. Surprise! I heard back a day later with suggestions about how to reset the radio's inner system. In addition, they offered either to replace the radio at no cost to me, or refund the purchase price. Amazing!!! So, I followed the simple step to reset the radio, and I have tested it repeatedly each day for several days. Everything works as advertised. For the price, this radio is a good deal. For the customer service, it is a great deal. 5 stars.

The CR1009Pro does and has basically all the things you could cram into an emergency radio like this. Except USB-C. Shortwave radio, a headphone jack, a 5000mAh battery, 3xAAA battery backup, a nylon carrying handle, a replaceable battery and a digital radio tuner may be difficult to find on other radios, especially in combination. And it has a backlit LCD display that shows battery level, frequency, time and whatever else. Has a flashlight at the front with a low/high mode, and a reading light at the top, also with a low/high mode. They're decent enough. Same goes for the speaker. This is for listening to the radio, not throwing a hootenanny and/or shindig. It of course also has AM and FM radio, a solar panel and crank for emergency power, and a USB out for charging stuff. And an SOS button that makes a red light at the front flash and the speaker emit an annoying noise. Has NOAA WX weather radio alert stuff, which I presume can be useful for people in the US. The antenna is about 24cm. Could probably be longer to increase the chance of better reception. Reception under circumstances beyond just sitting in my home, is not something I've tested, but I'm not too confident. Seems kind of touchy, but it might be fine. One thing I've found to be questionable is how well the included battery holds a charge. Don't know if this is normal for this type of battery (2170 li-ion), but I charged the thing fully, put it in a closet for around 7 months, and now it's completely dead. Seems like unwanted behavior for a product like this. I missed or forgot this information, but noticed now that the manual implies that with power off, the battery will gradually discharge until completely empty and puts that number at 6500 hours. Don't know when exactly my battery got depleted, but I took it out of the closet at roughly 5000 hours. So do keep in mind that you can't just put this radio in storage and expect it to be ready, you will need to occasionally check up on the battery and charge as necessary. I'd want to do that maybe once every two months. And it does not seem to want to turn on with only the 3xAAA backup. Tried putting in fresh batteries and nothing. Either the backup in my radio is busted or it can only switch to it if the radio is on when the main battery runs out. Maybe an area that could be improved in a future revision. UPDATE: Roughly a month after charging it until it told me it was fully charged, I turned it on to check the battery level and it's now down to 3 bars.

This little gem appealed to me right out of the box. It was easy to set up. Quality seems good for such a little radio. Time will tell when Florida gets outage from storm or emergency.. NOAA comes in good for our area.. Like having so many options to charge.

Ok. Let's be real here. This is not a 5 star item. I gave it 5 stars because it actually worked out of the box for like 35 bucks. I wanted a weather radio with am/fm, a couple of lights and a couple of different charging options. I read tons of reviews on this product. The lesser reviews probably got a bum product. Stuff happens, quality control is nil in today's world. Most of the 5 star reviews are hilarious....it isn't that great for 30 some bucks get real. Flashlight and reading light have 2 settings...both probably eat the battery alive. Tuning is very very touchy, it's not digital...want that..buy that....tuning is more sensitive than my second wife. I live in a metro area, stations are strong, just touchy. Weather radio picked up NOAA just fine. SW what can I say picked up 30 stations of garbage. If you are buying this for SW I have to ask why ? Get a dedicated SW radio. From some other reviews. Antenna...does not swivel...don't try. Solar charge....read the darn manual, this is the equivalent of a trickle charger... it helps that's all. Hand Crank....again read the manual 8 to 10 min of crank at 2 cranks per sec. to turn on a dead Cell Phone....it helps that's all. Compass...cute feature, inaccurate as **** if you are relying on this you're already toast. Sound....like an 80's handheld radio...very good for voice and real low music but, quite loud enough. Unit as a whole......what I expected for the price. I wanted am/fm/weather/ lights/charging options. The bar was set low for this one and it crossed the bar. If I get 1 yr out of I'm good. It is a super basic for short term emergencies NOTHING ELSE, was why I bought it for now. If it doesn't die or start melting withing 1 yr. I'm content lol after that all bets are off. So again be real, if you are relying on this to be your lifesaver...you are probably already in trouble but, if you grab this with a clear head, based on yoir $$ at this time, it covers your basics yet, patience is required for tuning frequencies. Otherwise upgrade. For now I knew what i was buying and it does barely what I asked. And yes I got the crooked tuning dial...whatever for 30 some bucks I will find what I'm looking for or I would have upgraded to digital. P.S. if you live in the styx like I used to this probably won't work for you. Reception is not strong enough. City is fine. In rural areas, you may want to check out their stronger digital products.(I had dedicated equipment for when I lived on a farm) Cheers.....hope this helps !

Second time buying. My dogs freak out over thunder and this radio stays on 24/7, so that anytime the power goes out, it just switches power source and they still have music to help drown out the noise. It has worked exceptionally well and I decided I needed one on the upper floor as well.

Love that the weather stations are preset you just need to find your area.

I'll be perfectly honest I bought this for the NOAA weather stations and the reading light and being solar powered. That it does excellently. The rest of the radio reception is sketchy at best the antenna sucks. When camped out I use a jumper wire to connect it to my ham radio antenna and then I get something resembling decent radio reception in the other bands. This is this is one of those you have to push the button or hold it down so it scans through the frequencies. It only stores the last frequency that it was on you can't program anything else. Needless to say it's a bit of an SOB if you're trying to go through this shortwave stations there's no jumping to the individual short way bands and adjusting from there you have to start at the top the bottom and go up or down through the scan feature. The alternative is even worse by having to push the button up or down individually. Other than that it seems like it's decent quality as far as construction goes the sound isn't too bad on it. And it does have if you want to turn it on the weather alert where it sits in standby mode and alert you if they have an emergency weather situation. Like I said it does what I bought it for so can't complain really if I want to listen to shortwave I have real radios for that and I don't have to worry about messing them up bouncing around on the dash of the truck

Following the fires, in Australia, I wasn't going to get caught out without a radio of phone changer. This product meets the bill. While the quality of reception is not premium it is still usable. It will be one of those handy devices that I have in the cupboard.
