Read Gillian Linscott as well. You won't regret it!
Like Jill I first came across Caro Peacock as Gillian Linscott. I loved the Nell Bray books. I've bought some of these on kindle but just never got round to reading them till now. These are excellent mysteries from the word go! However one minor criticism. The Nell Bray books are better.

caro peacock
I love everything written by Caro Peacock. I first came across her as Gillian Linscott with her suffragette heroine. I can always tell on the first page whether I am going to read a book - readability is extremely important to me and if I enjoy a book I always follow the author - which is what happened in this case. The books are well researched, informative, enjoyable and, most important, move along at a good pace, so no "drag".

Quite enjoyable and easy read
7/10 for this one. Good, quick read and I will look out for the other ones in the series. The main charakter Liberty Lane was a bit annoying at times and I didn't like the author calling Queen Victoria 'Little Vicky' - it sounded patronizing to me, but it thankfully only appeared about half a dozen times throughout the book.Liberty finds herself with no money and a dead father who allegedly died in a duel. She knows he would never agree to a duel and so she tries to retrace his final days in Paris and Calais, meeting the mysterious Mr Blackstone and the smelly FAT man. SHe isdetermind to find her father's killer at any cost. This was a good book, quite well written.

A great first introduction to Caro Peacock
Liberty Lane is an unconventional, educated woman unwittingly caught up in a political plot. Liberty's father's dies in suspect circumstances and her reluctance to accept a fabricated story about the exact circumstances starts this tale. In trying to find out the truth she meets a Mr Blackstone, who proposes that she pose as a governess with the Mandeville family in order to find out some things.A captivating suspense novel placed very early in the reign of Queen Victoria. The narrative portrays the period really well and as a reader you are taken along in a steady pace towards the successful concusion of the mystery. A great first novel, a great new heroine and hopefully many more Liberty Lane Thrillers to follow!

Unexpectedly Good Historical Mystery!
I'm not normally a fan of the mystery genre, or historical novels, but I picked this book up and was interested enough by the description to try it. I've very glad I did! Both the story and the characters are very involving, and made it seem very 'real' to me. I shall be looking out for the next book!

I couldn't put this book down. Loved the language and images painted by the author. Liberty Lane is a great heroine and very likeable. Can't wait for the next in the series.
