Will the large 12 gauge yellow ones work for an outdoor landscape "thicker insulation" burial wire gauge 14 or 16 ? Anyone tried this with success?

Yes, I was a little worried at first but used them and have had no issues for over 2 years now. The insulation is a little thicker but manageable.

So no soldering or striping of wire is required? I got them in the mail but it dont seem it could pierce the wire for contact.

I have found that on some wire I had to use the smaller connectors due to the thickness of the coating. Also use channel lock pliers to squeeze them on and you should have better luck. One more thing, I had to take a small screw driver to spread the space of the female receiver for easier installation. I just rewired my 7 ton trailer and was quite pleased with these connectors. We’ll see how they hold up now.
