Inspirational
A great introduction to Dzogchen with a modern style of writing and explaining, acknowledging the need of a modern audience A sense of appreciation and spaciousness permeates the book and will inspire to open up Recommended for everyone who can study and practice Dzogchen without absolutizing its view and perspective which is very accepting and tolerant, while at the same time acknowledging the shortcomings of relative, dualistic practices

One of the most important books in my library. I purchase this for all my friends who are interested in deep settling of the mind. Tsoknyi Rinpoche is a very clear teacher.

Great Addition!
If you read one book on Buddhist thought, this is it. It's not a self-help book and could be a difficult read for those who don't have some basic understanding of Buddhist philosophy. If you're new to Buddhist study you might want to start with Tsoknyi Rinpoche's book, "Open Heart, Open Mind" or his brother, Mingyur Rinpoche's, books, "Joy of Living" and "Joyful Wisdom". These are some of the best renderings of Tibetan Buddhist thought around.

Dichotomy to Me
As with many books I read, the first half or so often leaves me cold--a lot of it being a rehash or review of basic concepts etc. This book fits that model. The first 5/8 or so didn't do much for me; I even found it a bit annoying. But, I like to read a book from cover-to-cover and see what it really holds. I'm glad I did. Towards the end of the book, the author provides a step-by-step experiential guide to Trekcho practice with pitfalls, recommendations, etc. The wording is personal, straight-forward, and very clear. He also has a very interesting description of the sky exercise. Thus, I do recommend reading (preferably buying and retaining for reference) this book. Maybe you'll like the 1st part better than I did, who knows?

Profound, clear and practical
Wonderful teachings for those committed to the Dzogchen path. These teachings deserve to be studied and reread many times. I have attended several retreats with Tsoknyi Rinpoche in person, and this book captures the essence of his approach beautifully.

Excellent book. Iโve found it difficult to find much usable on Dzogchen but this book is good.
As a regular meditator my difficulty has been concentrating on an object for sufficient time. By simply stopping mental inputs and outputs and resting in your own luminosity of mind I found more success than in other Tibetan Buddhist traditions.

for those who meditate
I read this book to the end just one page per day and then go back to the beginning and repeat. Every reread reveals something that I use in my practice. Very accessible what ever your level. Enjoy
