can this be machine washed?

I would not wash it in the machine. I would take a damp rag and wipe it off. With the emphasis being on damp and not wet.

What size is the package for the 79x59 rug ?

Ours came folded, and if I remember correctly part of a package with other items. It is very easy to roll up and store once you have it at home.

I gave this as a gift, so I no longer have the rug and tag to check, but... the rug was large enough that I feel it would not fit well in a washing machine. It would definitely have to be folded, and it was rubber backed and a bit stiff for a washer. I think the best way to wash it would be spot washing. Since it was meant for a child, I think they took into account that it would need washing sometimes. I think a bit of soap on a cloth would do the job.
