Patternmaking for Underwear Design: 2nd Edition Paperback – July 2, 2015

I was hesitant to buy a book that had so few reviews, but I saw that the used copies were not much less than the new one is. That is generally a sure sign that a book is worth the price. I'm glad I bought it. It is very straightforward and tells you exactly what to do. Yes, you do need to pay attention. If you expect a magic formula, you won't get it. You must take the measurements and then follow the directions. If you do, then you will have a pattern is fits or comes very close. It uses UK terminology.

I love how this book is organized. I haven't had time to start creating patterns yet but everything included in the book is great. You get garter belts, baby dolls, many bra styles, a few undies, and pajamas as well. It's very complete.

i bought the first edition and some patterns are repeated baut i love the new ones!

I had trouble following other drafting books, but this was so easy. 99% perfect fitting bra first go, one tiny tweak on the neckline and it is 100% perfect now. You do need to concentrate, but if you have your measurements and no interruptions, it is quite easy. Even went and self drafted the t-shirt which didn't need any alterations, perfect first go.

If you don't already have a good strong sewing and drafting background this is NOT for you. If you can also figure out your way around the mathematical errors you can get along great. It drives my Enginerd husband insane as he can't stand the mathematical errors unless he literally redlines the book. I, on the other hand, don't write in books so we have two copies. It's missing a large core of information and would be very frustrating if I didn't know anything about patterndrafting for underwear design.

This appears to be a very comprehensive book for people interested in making underwear for the Ready-to-Wear industry. In my opinion it would have limited usefulness for people wanting to create custom-fit underwear for a specific individual. This requires an entirely different skill set. It also does not include any instructions for sewing underwear which for a garment like bras does require very specific sewing techniques.
