905 Protector 1:12 Scale RC Cars, Off-Road RC Buggy Hobby Grade | Aluminum Oil-Filled Shocks, Fast Remote Control Car 38 km/h, 2.4GHz Waterproof ESC, Perfect for Kids& Adults, Dual Batteries

I fly drones, A LOT. But, I'm new to the RC dirt racer hobby. I don't think I could have found a better buggy to start out with. The HBX (Haiboxing) Protector 1:12 scale RC model is very well made with the best quality parts and materials. It's extremely rugged, with great 4WD and independent suspension. The huge motor and ESC (electronic speed controller) are the powerful heart of this beast. And with the dual battery set up, it will run, run and RUN! I went out and played for 20 minutes on the first run and STILL had plenty of battery left. This package includes two EXTRA batteries, so you're guaranteed to get your satisfying time with this bad boy. The front bumper/skid plate is spring loaded on the nose to help lessen the severity of head on impact. The chassis is really tough composite material. The battery compartments are easily accessed, without lifting the canopy. So quick changing makes for less down time. The batteries are a common type, making spares readily available. The canopy will open with the removal of two pins, tilting toward the front. (NOTE: be careful as you open the canopy. There is a wire from the chassis to the Baja lights on the top that CAN be stressed as you tilt the canopy forward.) Under the canopy, you have full access to the motor, ESC, the entire drive train and suspension. You can see in the first picture, where I swapped out the shocks for the all metal, oil capped shocks. I also increased the lift by changing the mounting point on the lower swing arm to the closest in. Just one of the upgrades available. Next, I'm going to swap out the drive shafts for the metal versions (which may take a while, there are no instructions and I'm pretty green), and eventually swap out the skin sections of the canopy. All of these upgrades are available from HBX on Amazon. The second picture is a shot of what you get in the package. Shots 3 and 4 are of the car as it arrives in the package. Finally, in the video, you can see how powerful the buggy is, and how well it handles rough terrain. I crashed it, flipped it, rolled it and it didn't even show a scratch. The controller is super responsive, from granny to rocket. The steering servo can be aligned perfectly with the controller and is super responsive, steering is fast and accurate. I didn't take it out on the pavement for an all-out speed test. But, from it's action in the dirt, I can say that it's probably so fast that I will never use the whole throttle on the street. I have the HBX Hail Storm too. A 1:18 model and it's a lot of fun. But, the Protector is a real beast! For my fist 1:12 scale true hobby grade RC buggy, I'm more than satisfied! Great purchase! Five BIG stars! Update: One of the things that makes this hobby so fun is doing the upgrades and modifications to your model, customizing it to your liking. Haiboxing has many upgrades available for the Protector. I have purchased a few. There are even more upgrades available for 1:12 scale RC buggys that may work for the Protector, bur are after market parts. For the novice, someone that is just getting into this hobby, doing these upgrades can be a great learning experience, requiring much research on YouTube, etc. However, you would expect some instructions to come with the parts, on how to install them. Maybe I expect too much. But, I can say that I am disappointed that no instructions came with the replacement axles and that the only advice or support that I could get from Haiboxing was to look it up on YouTube. Of course, there are no videos specific to the Protector and replacing the axles. So, I am kind of stuck, trying to watch videos of other models, and trying to apply those demos to the Protector. It's my fear that I may break something, or install it wrong, causing damage to the model. I did find some YT vids on how to do the axle upgrades on another HBX model. I think that it will be the same for mine.

Update(4/21/2025): I stand corrected, the extra battery was stored in the car. I was finally able to test it out on the pavement with my kids and it was excellent. A few things to note, specifically in comparison to the Bezgar version (no longer available on Amazon): - The rear red lights are a HUGE plus, Particularly when running the cars at night, which is extremely fun with the kids (and challenging). - The headlight is very similar to Bezgar's older version, but the wire cable is more flexible/slinkly-like, it it is less likely to cause an issue with messing up the wire for the light, which equals more longevity. - The dimensions are not exactly the same between the two cars. This HBX version is slightly slimmer chassis, wider wheel diameter (great if you want to swap for slightly larger tires), and the wheel width is wider (although they look almost identical to the older Bezgar version) - The HBX comes with oil-filled shocks, whereas the Bezgar came with regular spring shocks (even though I did upgrade to oil-filled). Even with the upgraded shocks, the Bezgar had plastic connection tips, whereas HBX has metal. - The HBX has a better motor and components (metal vs plastic). This is good for longevity, but I imagine the weight is more on the HBX so having a bigger motor doesn't make it faster than the older Bezgar version. - They appear to run around the same speed, except the HBX batter dies quicker (maybe because the weight is likely heavier and the second set of lights drain more power). Maybe the Bezgar version is a slightly faster, even with a fully charged battery. I will try to test and update. All-in-all, I would say this was worth the purchase. I can still run the older Bezgar Protector and get parts to maintain it, but if I have to wait, or just want a "fresher" ride, then I know the newer HBX version will keep me in a good position and possibly hold up longer with the parts not being plastic. Original Post: I have had the Bezgar version for while and love it, but decided to try this one out for a few of its differences (battery, lights, motor). This one seems like it will be great as well, but I am disappointed that it only came with one battery when it says it comes with two.

Truly ready to go out the box. I haven’t had an RC vehicle for almost 30 years and a setup like this would have been quite expensive but is now quite affordable. Batteries were already charged for some immediate fun. I thought I was missing a battery pack but one was installed in the chassis of the buggy already and just needed to be connected to power on. Two AA batteries (not included) into the Controller and I was good to go. I was surprised by the brightness of the LED lighting that does function as path illumination and the red lights on the back help keep track of positioning. It’s great fun and pretty fast for a brush motor. Close to 20mph at full throttle. The speed control on the controller is nice for when I hand it off to the kids and I don’t want them running it full out. Just a turn of the knob and it limits the top speed and acceleration to aid in learning to drive it properly. I’ve rolled it, flipped it and crashed into things every way I could and it’s sturdy enough to keep on trucking. I definitely recommend the Protector Buggy as it’s a good size without being unwieldy. Just be warned that you might want to buy more of these cars with different setups.

This is not a $500 plus Traxxas or the like. Given that, it is quite a decent compromise and performs well. If you are looking for a backyard ground pounding 4x4 with decent speed, this is great. The battery life is maybe optimistic for real world applications like grass and slightly rough terrain. I get about 12-15 minutes with my use before the speed starts to diminish and do feel that is quite adequate given the 1,500mah available from the battery and what we’re asking that size battery to do and with a brushed motor that is less efficient than brushless and given the weight. The parts quality is adequate though I wish that suspension arms and tie rods were adjustable because it would allow for better alignment. It is fairly close for the novice hobbyist but anyone with some knowledge will easily spot that toe, camber and caster are not even close. It is molded plastic so my thoughts are to “mold it better” but it is a $120 product so not a deal breaker. I did go to my local hobby store and fashioned toe links and the servo link ($15) so at least that is better and has way less play. Camber and caster is another story but they aren’t grossly out (both front and back). The steering still lacks good centering where the plastic links are somewhat flexible. Plastic is fine in most places but where precision is needed, it should be beefier. There is no center differential or the like so while driving on solid surfaces, you will notice a very measurable drift while turning. Once adjusted to it, you’ll do fine though. Range has been 250’ with clear line of sight but that’s as far as I’ve taken it. When going forward and hit reverse, it stops by electronic breaking. When going backward and hit forward, it burns rubber to go forward. I wish the software behaved the same and just stopped. Very much I’m happy with this where I just use it to chase Canada Goose (they’re protected so this is all I can legally use) I would happily spend $20 (retail at that) more to have the parts that I purchased already in place and the slightly more plastic on the steering links to make this a great starter machine that will satisfy most.

Nice little car wasn’t fast enough for me but a couple upgrades did the job. Good on all terrain. Really stable at high speeds. Can be a perfect gift for a young teen who wants to get into the hobby.

I've had this car for a week so I can't speak to the long term durability but so far this thing has held up to the abuse of my kids playing with it. We've built ramps to jump and have drift challenges. I've owned several RC cars in the past and this one is the best. Keep in mind this isn't a $1k car but at this price point it has exceeded my expectations. The shocks are very absorbent allowing the car to handle different terrain. As with any RC car, I expect over time I will have to replace parts like an axle but again, that's expected. The battery has been good so far - about 20 minutes on each pair of batteries and that's with the peddle to the metal most of the time. Speed is good and again inline with what I expected. The only complaint I have is that I need more batteries! My kids run through these in 40 minutes so I'm on the search for a good additional backup but have read comments that if you do more than 2 runs consecutively then you risk the motor overheating and burning out. Very happy with this purchase and would recommend, and have, to anyone. Considering buying a second.

It was cool the first two times out running it. Third time out, my son lost a shock mount and bottom spring perch. Upon investigating to take pictures to send the manufacturer, I found multiple screws that were loose. I’d say this is pretty poor quality for a Chinese rig compared to a smaller truck we have beat the living daylights out of for 3 years. Also, I can’t find parts as easily as other manufacturers and the manufacturer is NON-RESPONSIVE to multiple emails. My son is pretty disappointed.

This car is great! In fact it's better than great, it's awesome! I've had it for a while and it rocks! The battery's last forever, it's very fast! It's also quite durable! I've ran this thing like crazy! Also have had my 3 year old nephew drive it at full blast for a while! He had no clue what he was doing but loved every second of it. Put this car on some loose gravel/dirt and it'll slide all over! Even though it's 4WD it'll do some nice tight donuts! It also does wheelies if it has enough grip! This bad boy hasn't broken anywhere or given me any issues at all! I've jumped it, rolled it, crashed it, driven it through water grass dirt and sand, and it's fantastic! All the lights work, doesn't make weird sounds, just goes! Would recommend this absolute unit to anyone that wants alot of fun for a good price. Also great for beginners, I would know because I am one!
