A Reading the Paranormal Review
This book is technically about Garrett and Marika and them coming to terms with their issues, but Beep/Elwyn...wow. THINGS HAPPEN and I can (vaguely) see how things are being moved into place for the big showdown she's destined to take part in. I mean, that girl. THAT GIRL.But let's talk about Garrett and Marika. He's trying to be a good father to their son, but he has maybe a teeny tiny bit of baggage that stems from his parentals and Marika's trickery in getting him to help make their kiddo. Which doesn't translate into him being a bad dad or anything, but he is having a hard time forgiving Marika for what she did. Throw in being the head guy in charge of keeping Beep safe while not being able to see a lot of the supernatural world and, well, Garrett has a lot on his plate. As for Marika, she's lived her entire life knowing her son would be someone deeply important in the coming war so she set out to give him the best chance of survival she could. Even if it meant tricking the man she loved and keeping silent about their son. Now that Garrett knows about him, she has to live with his anger and mistrust. Which isn't easy, but she does it. Because Zaire's safety is more important than her happiness.Except spending time together sort of opens Garrett's eyes and his heart all over again and THINGS HAPPEN. Not the things that happen to Beep, but other things. Sexy things.A whole lot of danger, a change in perception, a sexy encounter in an SUV, a wild child, and a new coffee place in town. THINGS HAPPEN and OMG! Wow.-Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal

The Graveyard Shift book 13.5
This is a spinoff of DJ's Charley Davidson series. It follows Garrett Swopes as baby sitter bodyguard to Charley's and Reyes daughter. Good start to the story and a special appearance at the end.

My gosh, nobody writes humor better than Darynda Jones. Iβd missed the Charley Davidson series and am so happy to be back in this world. Garrett is the best and I adored he and Marikaβs story.

More please
How I missed this fabulous series, there is no way for me to explain in words at least how much I loved the Charley Davidson series. So the fact we get to enter her world again was a absolute bonus. Even if it's just a novella. But don't let this novella fool you!!! For such a short read it really packed a huge punch and brought us action, intrigue, suspense, humor and everything associated with the mayhem that's Charley Davidson universe. Just know anything that I would say in regards to this story would be a spoiler. Since I'm not one to ruin it for you reader's just take my words to 1 click this read believe me you won't regret it.

Garrett and Marika's novella
3 stars - I liked itIt's been five years since Charley and Reyes sacrificed themselves for their daughter. Garret Swopes is determined to keep their daughter safe but when she vanishes, he turns to the one woman who might be able to help him, Marika Dubois. This was a wonderful jump back into the Charley Davidson world. We finally got a book focused only on Garrett Swopes! I am so glad we are finally getting the full story of what happened between Marika and Garrett. They finally talk it out and put the past behind them. Also I liked Marika a lot more than I thought. This book also focuses on Elwyn, aka Beep. I knew she was going to be a fascinating kid with Charley and Reyes as parents but I didnβt expect how powerful she would become. I really canβt wait to see her grow and what new abilities she will have next. While this is a short novella, I think it did a great job at jumping back into this world. But, if you have not read the rest of the series you will most likely be lost so I suggest starting with the first book. Overall, I enjoyed having a story from Garrett and Marikaβs perspectives. I am really looking forward to reading the next novella now because I just loved Elwyn so much.

Charlie Davidson book 13.5
Before I start this review I want to give a quick heads up to anyone who hasn't already read the Charley Davidson series. Normally the 1001 Dark Nights novellas are a great way to test out a series or a new to you author but The Graveyard Shift gives MAJOR spoilers for the entire Charley Davidson series and I REALLY wouldn't recommend reading it before Summoned to the Thirteenth Grave. This is a fab series though so if you're new to the world grab yourself a copy of First Grave on the Right ASAP.Now we've got that out of the way I want to tell Charley Davidson fans that you're going to love this novella. I didn't realise how much I've missed this world until I got the chance to dive right back into it and it was so much fun catching up with characters like Garrett, Cookie, Uncle Bob, Donovan but especially little Beep who is now a five year old ball of energy who likes to keep all her guardians on their toes.I don't want to give away too much of the plot but Garrett's life gets 100% more complicated when Beep vanishes into thin air and he's forced to go to his ex Marika for help. There is a lot of unfinished business between those two and I'm glad we got to see them resolve things once and for all. I also loved seeing how much Beep takes after her mother and how much chaos one small child can cause considering how many people she has looking out for her. I really can't wait for her to be fully grown so we can start reading her series! Oh and we also got confirmation at the end of this book that we're getting a novella about Amber and Quentin in May 2021 called The Gravedigger's Son which I'm super excited about!

A great spinoff novella
I loved the novella spin off from the Charley Davidson series. Having only recently finished that series, I was so glad I could jump straight into the follow up novellas and continue the story a bit more. This one focusses mostly on Garrett, his role in protecting Beep and his challenging relationship with the mother of his child Marika. I loved the Beep side of this story - she is definitely one character worth reading about, but if you haven't read the Charley series, you need to go back and do so as this book has so many spoilers for it! Garrett and Marika are an odd couple to say the least - they love each other, but hate each other, but in dire times, they must work together. That soon enough makes them realise a few things about each other. I do hope we get to read more about them in the future. On a side note, I am so hoping for Beep's series to come out soon! That is one series I am so looking forward to reading!

A great return to the world.of Charlie.Davidson
Garret Swopes was one of the main characters in the Charlie Davidson books and at the conclusion of the series was given the great honour and responsibility of protecting Charlies daughter, Beep. He has.taken his responsibilities seriously and Beep.is now a.happy, precocious five year o!d who likes coffee (big surprise there) and Stephen King. Garret has also maintained a relationship with his son, born after he was tricked into unkowingly fathering a child, a fact for which he has never forgiven the child's mother. But now that's going to change, Beep has gone.missing, just disappeared right in front of his eyes, and with so much out there --'------- of a supernatural variety--------- that Garret cannot see he needs help. Unfortunately the only person he can think of who can help him is the one person he doesn't want to see......................... Things are not much different in Charlies world, even though she and Reyes are not physically present the book still has the same flavour with the wisecracks and irreverence. All the usual suspects from the original series are present and accounted for and it's nice to look at the vs from Garretts point of view. It is being a short story a bit sparse on details in some parts but this does not detract from the story, would I have liked it to be longer, yes, but I'm so happy just to be back with Beep, Cookie, Artemis and the others I will happily accept anything the author wishes to write. Now I'm looking forward to the Gravediggers Son next May with Cookies Daugher Amber and her friend Quentin all grown up.......

Thank you!
I admit I was gutted when Charley's books seemed to come to an end.Now I'm ecstatic that this book is here.I, as a reader of the Charley Davidson series, continue with Beeps life, she'll always be Beep to me lol and how she's surviving without Charley and Reyes.Drinking coffee, hmmmm who does that remind you of???Hardly sleeping. Enjoying horror books and things a child of her age shouldn't be watching/reading lol.The characters are wonderfully written and come alive for me.I've already pre ordered book two.Thank you Darynda from the bottom of my heart, of a waaaay older fan, for continuing these characters and their 'lives' ππππππ

I absolutely loved this Novella, if you read this and haven't yet read the Charley Davidson series do it immediately! You will never regret it (apart from the lack of sleep because you will become addicted!) Darynda thank you for this Novella, it filled a hole that was missing this world. I cannot wait to read more about Beep and Osh, as well as visiting with Charley and Reyes and loved learning more about Garret. You are one talented lady, as long as you are writing I am buying
