My question has been answered -thank you for the helpful answers!
is it dual voltage
Do the plates meet/ are they flush with each other?
There is no product information and I take it from this forum that it is dual voltage.... How does this function if there isn't a switch?

Absolutely lovely
Works perfectly. Perfect size. Perfect heat. Love the 1/2 flat iron for short hair.

Great everyday straightener
This hair straightener is awesome as far as functionality. The controls are simple to figure out. It heats up to the highest setting in under one minute. It has a blinking light which stops once the device has reached the desired temperature.I have naturally thin and "straight" hair but it lays flat and always sticks to my face/neck (my hair is short). It added a lot of body to my hair as well as made it look less dull. I was able to style it in about 5 minutes with ease to the look I desired. It didn't tug on my hair and I didn't lose any hair in the device. When your hair is thin and breaks off easily, this is a rarity. My only complaint is that the cord is a bit short - and of course, with any type of heated styling device, you shouldn't use an extension cord. Although this would be a non-issue in a higher seated bathroom outlet, I style my hair in my bedroom (the outlet is much lower). I don't blame Conair for that considering most people style their hair in the bathroom. Luckily I am quite short, so with a bit of maneuvering I was able to reach both sides of my head. :) Five stars.

It’s medium sized
I bought this for traveling to Italy. I thought I could use it instead of my usual curling brush. It’s not super small but definitely not as big as my regular curling iron or brush. I don’t use a curling iron often, my hair is straight but I use a brush when blow drying to get the ends to curl under. I should have practiced with it more before going. It worked pretty well and I had no problems with the cord or anything else. It heats up very fast and it gets really hot. I only used on the lowest setting. It would be nice if it had a way to keep the heating elements closed, but I had a special thermal bag to put it in, so not a huge deal. You do still need a adapter to put it in, again not a problem - we bought an extra one in Italy for about $6.00 so my husband & I didn’t have to share our one adapter. Overall, I think it was a good product.

works good for curling hair
this in no way gets as hot as my other flat iron. I don't buy expensive flat irons - I'm too cheap. Most people use their flat irons too hot and damage their hair. you should only use really high heat if you have ethnic hair. So, my previous flat iron, that my daughter stole, got so hot. it worked so good, but damaged my hair so bad. I had to turn it down so as not to damage my hair so much. So, I get this one last night, plug it in and try to curl my hair - you know, flat iron curling, not curl iron curling. it does nothing, so I turn it all the way up and hit boost. My hair is very fine and thick. It curls wonderfully. but the temp will take a little getting used to. all the way up and with boost on (had to keep hitting it as it's temporary), it curled my hair well. took a little bit to straighten some of my kinky ends - my hair is super wavy in the back. But, I love how easy it is to hold and wrap your hair around it. If your hair is coarse or ethnic, I doubt this would straighten your hair. or it would take forever. but maybe that's a good thing, so as to limit damage from the high heat? I had a really hard time curling my hair with my other flat iron, but it's so easy with this one.

As Good As Professional
I love everything about this flat iron. The curved style makes it much easier to use than traditional flat irons that are stick-like. It is also easy to use due to being lightweight, heats quickly and even has a turbo setting. There are 25 settings plus the additional turbo. I use it with a spray made to protect my hair from the heat, which also adds shine. I get so many compliments on my hair now. I had a professional flat iron that stopped working after 5 years. I bought this as a replacement thinking it wouldn’t be as good, due to the very affordable price. Was I ever wrong! This is especially nice for me as its design is ergonomic and does not flare my carpal tunnel as my professional flat iron did. I also love that it is made by Conair, a company I love and trust.

Good, but I miss the old style
So I am on my fourth or so hair straightener from Conair. Some people would tell me to switch to a Chi or some other high end brand, but honestly, the $24.99 Conair works better than the $69.99 "professional" one. While I love the wider plates, I really miss the old model of this, where it had the comb attached to one of the plates. I would get a much smoother, and quicker, go of my hair, but with this one I have to use one hand to hold the straightener and another to hold a comb underneath so I can keep the hair in. I find that if I don't use the comb, my hair will constantly fall out of the super smooth plates. While I really really wish that Conair would go back to the built in combs, I am able to straighten my hair quicker than the more expensive ones.

UPDATE
I started having problems with this 4 months in to using it. It would shut off over and over throughout one session. Now about 2 years later it is dead. Wont turn on, its over for sure. So if you want trouble buy this!Works really well on my daughters hair. Every morning we start it up and I can immediately start using it as it immediately becomes hot. Love it. Be careful though, it can get so hot, you can burn yourself. I burned my daughters face when I allowed her freshly straightened hair to fall in her face, the hair was very hot. You also cant get to close to your head as it lets out a lot of hot intense heat. I love how fast it is to heat up though. It even has a TURBO button on it for even faster start up, but Ive never used it as it is already very fast. Straightens perfectly. When you first buy this and plug it in, it will have a noticeable smell but the smell burns away and youll notice nothing afterward and never again on any new start ups :)
