The Other Bb Contra Bass Clarinet Reed (BBCB2.5) by Legere is a high-performance reed made from a special polymer with a fine micro texture, designed for durability and exceptional sound quality. With a strength of 2.5, it caters to both professional and aspiring musicians, lasting for months and providing a rich tone.

Perfect for contrabass, with one significant caveat...
It's a miracle of design -- doesn't need much wetting, always perfectly formed, stands up to wear and tear. Looks nifty. {g} Being translucent (moreso than cane) I can check how well it's making a seal, too. The actual sound is... acceptable, at least, but I'd want to use it a lot more before I feel comfortable comparing it more than that. Good enough to be a reasonable alternative anyway, at least for my purposes. Now the only significant downside so far: it feels like it needs maybe 5 to 10% more air to make it work properly -- which on a contrabass is no small difference! But that would be a side effect of it being sturdier material which won't casually break during a performance, so even on a contra I'm willing to trade off there. You may decide the endurance hit is a more serious problem, or that the extra effort is messing with your tone or enunciation too much (and the sound itself in any case IS a bit different from the different physical material and properties).

... has a consistent hardness and they maintain the hardness nicely. I'd give these reeds 5 stars
Each reed has a consistent hardness and they maintain the hardness nicely. I'd give these reeds 5 stars, but they don't last as long as I would expect. I have been using the same Legere reed on my tenor sax for jazz band work for almost a year! However, my reeds for the contrabass beast start to fray within 10-12 hours of play. I don't think the polymer that Legere uses is sufficient to withstand the amplitude of the vibrations generated by the VERY low reed instruments. That being said, I still prefer Legere to any cane reed that I have used on contra.

Best Synthetic Reed I've Used for a Great Price
Great reed for a great price. It has the consistency of a normal wet reed, so this synthetic reed can play dry, which is VERY helpful when playing Contrabass. Contrabass reeds are hard to find so buying a sturdy synthetic reed that will never go bad and keep its shape forever is highly recommended. It plays well, I just wish it had something to keep it in. I have to use its original packaging like in the picture to put it away, which is fine, it just isn't as convenient. I have played on this reed all through college and it served me great. I highly recommend buying this.

This reed did the job, but snapped incredibly easily. I am not sure if it's because it's a larger reed or not, but the smaller Legere reeds I've purchased didn't have that issue. Aside from breaking relatively easily, it is a nice reed and created a nice tone for my contrabass.

So, so worth it!
Excellent sound quality and lasted almost a full year on the contra of a very accident prone teenager. We put it on her instrument without telling her very picky and exacting band instructor and he had no idea we had switched from wooden to plastic. Plus, a year at $30 instead of 1-2 wooden reeds per month at $8 each was a fantastic savings.

As good as your favorite cane reed, longer lasting, and consistent.
If you've never played a plastic or resin reed because you had a bad experience several years ago or some close minded teacher told you they were bad sounding then you are doing yourself a great disservice. These reeds are as good as cane and have a warm full tone. These are NHOT the same as other brands. Each brand has their proprietary materials and manufacture techniques. I've played most of them available synthetics and found a great use for them but these are by far the best of the bunch.

Breaks too fast for a synthetic ... Much less a regular reed
It started to form cracks about 2 days after I had it, and I had only played my contrabass about 3 or 4 times . ... Trash product , great sound , but it only lasts for about one session. Then it's garbage
