High quality power plug for protection against power surges
Works great and is easy to install. Very solidly built and has 3 lights that indicate if the product and the electrical line are working properly. I use it in my laundry room to plug in my washer. No problems so far.

Great price for quality device.
The Tripp Lite direct plug Isobar two-outlet power-conditioner/surge suppressor is a great safety device for preserving delicate electronic devices from utility-power transients and surges, but it is not designed to protect against lightning strikes, power failures (black out/brown out), or minor voltage fluctuations inherent to utility power. It might be nice if these units blocked all current when a power surge was encountered. But that would also be a grave inconvenience, because there could be 1,000 surges in a single day. Utility power is rife with short-duration voltage spikes (thousandths of a second) that can cause data errors, momentary artifacts in audio and video, and cumulatively cause premature failure of electronic equipment. The Tripp Lite Isobar is designed to quickly clamp the voltage spikes to a much lower voltage, but not usually down to the normal line voltage of 110-120 volts. So, this device filters out destructive elements inherent in utility power. But it doesn't produce perfectly 'clean' power!Asking for the device to cut off all power at some abitrary surge level is not possible, because no one knows how much that is. There are too many variables involved. When the device must be removed from the socket, it must be pulled straight out. If it is tilted or twisted, it can break. It is also 'not' a lighting arrester. Nor is it designed to be used with extension cords or outlet strips. It's practical use is limited to protecting devices with delicate electronics from excessive fluctuation in utility power. Real protection begins with uninterruptable power supplies (UPS). But they must be dual-conversion type, or they offer inadequate protection. Tripp Lite makes UPSs too.I use the Isobar devices with printers, telephone charger bases, alarm clocks, laptop AC adapters, usb-chargers, and things like that. Expensive electronics are connected to UPS units. The last bit is, conditioners like the Isobar products offer no special protection against electrocution, like a GFCI does. Nor are the two device types compatible. I like the product a lot. But I also have realistic expectations.

Great little surge protector
EMI filtration, heavy surge suppression. Very well made. Nice and compact, very good design.

Well made, seems to work.
Bought these based on articles/reviews. I had a 6 outlet one which would trip with a spaceheater plugged in on high, so I know they do something. I haven't had any events (thank goodness) to evaluate for a lighting strike.

Best for vertical flush wall jacks
This review is being written on Amazon.com 8/6/2011 for the Tripp Lite ISOBLOK2-0 surge protector.Pro's: metal enclosure, low clamping voltage, high joule ratingCon's: unusual mounting method, bulky, best for vertical outletsI've used other Tripp-Lite surge protecgtors for many years.Mounting:The manufacturer picture does not make it clear how this unit mounts to the wall outlet. As other reviewers have pointed out, the plug on the back of this box is not centered. The box plugs into one of the outlets in a standard wall jack, and the other wall jack outlet is not covered, depending on which outlet you use. The wall cover stays in place, so the surge protector does not mount flush with the wall. A rubber bumper helps keep the box fairly level with the wall. However, the unit still wobbles. The protector is best used on a flush mounted wall jack that is oriented vertically with the protector plugged into the bottom jack. Other outlets, such as horizontal or ceiling mounted jacks (example for a garage door opener), or surface jacks found in some utility areas, wouldn't be the best application. A small bracket helps keep the surge protector in place by attaching to the switch plate cover. However, even with the bracket in place, the surge protector can be removed from the wall jack.Specifications:The joule rating (larger is better) is excellent for a small surge protector. The clamping voltage (lower is better) is similarly excellent. The LED indicators for protection present and wiring check are bright and easy to see and interpret.Other:A paper sticker on the side of the surge projector states "made in China". Previous other Tripp-Lite model protectors I have purchased were made in USA.Summary:The specifications of this protector and reputation of Tripp-Lite for surge protectors make this purchase worth it for me.

Solved my microwave tripping the AFCI/GFCI circuit breaker by smoothing out the power consumption
This device has likely helped other electronic devices in my house to have a longer lifespan. Prior to using this Tripp Lite surge suppressor, my Panasonic microwave would routinely cause the breaker to switch off whenever I was cooking less than a quarter cup of food/water/popcorn. Apparently, the microwave was cycling its power consumption in a way that was extra spikey, tripping the AFCI portion of the breaker protection. Because this surge suppressor contains some hefty ferrite, it acts as an inductor, smoothing out the flow of current. This also has the benefit of smoothing out the voltage that other devices plugged in around the house experience. I've now had this Tripp Lite surge suppressor for over a year and it's continuing to function wonderfully. I'm also able to make a small serving of popcorn in my microwave whenever I want without the hassle of fiddling with the breaker.
