NTSC / Region 0 Korean import. Optional Korean subtitles can be turned off from the main menu. Gary Cooper plays Alvin York, the real-life country lad and sharpshooter drafted to fight during World War I but blocked from killing by his pacifist sentiments. Howard Hawks makes a rousing, heroic film out of the tale, and Cooper gives one of his best performances (for which he won an Oscar). The 1941 feature seems as much a valentine to wartime America (and a not-so-subtle piece of propaganda) as anything, with Hawks capturing splendidly shot scenes of life in York's home state of Tennessee, which in turn provide a striking contrast to the battlefield. A key scene in the film, in which York is presented with an argument in favor of killing in war, is still thought provoking. Audio is in English. With Korean subtitles. Review: Excellent movie for anyone on a spiritual journey - I watched this movie for free in YouTube. It's an absolute slam dunk of a heartwarming story. It teaches a lot about being a good and decent human as well. It's amazing to find a copy for sale in DVD so I can take it and watch it with my grandmother. That's all I can say for the product just yet as I haven't had a chance to visit my grandmother. Review: Superb and accurate old movie of an American WWI hero - This was a quite enjoyable and fine movie that summarized the life and exploits of Sergeant Alvin York. Sergeant York, who came from a very poor area of rural Tennessee and, was drafted into the U.S. Army in World War I. Although at first a conscientious objector, he was persuaded to fight by his commanding officer. He was an excellent marksman and became a national hero after one-day's work when he captured more that 130 German soldiers and killed about 25 others in a fierce battle. After receiving the Medal of Honor, among other prestigious honors, he was offered an opportunity to make a considerable amount of money but refused because he thought it was wrong to make money from actions where he, of necessity, had killed enemy soldiers. Gary Cooper, with his usual understated acting, makes an exceptionally good Sergeant York. This film recounts a nice piece of American history and is apparently quite accurate. Although filmed in the late 1930's, the photography and sound are quite good. The disc is made in Korea. If you turn on the subtitles, they are in Korean, not English.

Great movie/great man
Although there were more than a few details of this movie that were not accurate, overall it is a wonderful piece. The stereotypical back-hills Tennessee accents were perhaps a bit much, but the real Alvin York didn't seem to complain when the movie was made (although he did chastize Gary Cooper for being photographed for a publicity shot holding a cigarette, something York would never do). The story is of a rough-necked young mountain man who finds religion right before WWI and then struggles with his conscience as to whether or not he can kill and still live up to his Christian ideals. Well, God was on his side as he became an international hero (quite by accident) then went home. the movie ends there, but I would also recomend reading a recent biography of York to see what a truly extraordinary man he was. He wouldn't capitalize on his fame to make money, and he used what little he did have to try to build schools to bring education to the rural hills of Tennessee. Alvin York is one of the greatest examples of an American hero that we have, not because of his actions in war, but because of his actions in peace and his devotion to God, His country, and his neighbors.

Good movie
Good movie. No scratches or glitches. Good sound. Only downside is that the description on the case and the subtitles are in Korean.
