Does the battery drain while not in use for a while? I fully charged the battery and when I went to use it it was half way charged.

In a typical day, the battery takes approximately 2 hours to charge and should last 2-4 sessions before having to recharge again. We consider 1 session 15 minutes. The battery can be charged and depleted 600+ times before losing a considerable amount of its original charging capacity. In practice it should last years for you. We do not sell the battery separately because it is built inside the unit.

how do I put distilled water in it withour a squeeze bottle?

As advised in the manual, the Mypurmist Free only accept the Mypurmist ultrapure sterile water refills. Using distilled or any other water in this model can defect the unit or shorten the lifespan overtime. The water sensor is sensitive.
