its a very well made durable historically accurate viking axe!
the handle is made of hickory which is arguably not historical to the vikings' axes but its the most commonly used handle material today with axes, it absorbs shock and its tough, the handle is about 32 inches long, and its not completely cylindrical which helps edge alignment, the head is made out of carbon steel, it pretty thick and nicely weighted for the handle length, it weighs about 4 to 5 pounds, nicely balanced powerful blows with ease, the head is attatched with a forge peen going through the eye of the axe through the handle, durable enough for battle, just dont expect it to survive after using all your force to smash into concrete because no axe is meant to or can stand up to that kind of abuse. the edge is thick and dull, bit definitley sharpenable, its about a couple minutes of a steel hand file away from deadly sharp, so if you wanted you could easily sharpen it. overall its a very well made durable historically accurate viking axe! (btw im using my grandma's amazon account to review this my name is not teresa and im not a shield maiden)

If you shave about a 1/8 inch on both sides of the axe head id imagine this would be a great weapon. Also reworking the shaft/ s
It was worth the money, however if you're planning on using this in battle (lol) you'll have to do some work....Its slightly wobbly and too thick/heavy to be a battle axe.If you shave about a 1/8 inch on both sides of the axe head id imagine this would be a great weapon. Also reworking the shaft/ staining it could be an option. Its a great wall piece out the box though, mine had some funky punches all around the axe head, no biggy.

Not quite as presented in the ad, but nice.
Good wall hanger - head is a bit loss and wobbly - but doesn't matter when on the wall. Head a bit greasy but better that than rusty. The handle is not finished as depicted - it has a more won and antiqued look which I like better than the picture but is still light incolor and the head of the axe is covered with dimpled texture - which also I liked better but is not adequately shown in the picture - thus the 4/5 rather than 5/5. A nice bearded axe wall hanger.

Handle is going to need major work
Ok, as stated before, the handle is waaaaay lose and ill-fitted for the axe. If you are looking for a throwing axe, this is much too long, but for a hacking tool, I think this is going to be very fun.About the handle and axe head. There is a rivet that holds the head onto the handle, it is rustic and looks appropriate for the style of the forged axe, but I'm not sure if this is a good idea structurally to have this on an axe you intend to actually use on Saxon zombies. There are major visible gaps between the axe head and the handle, so if I keep it, it will need major shimming to tighten it up, soaking in linseed oil will not do it, as the gaps are at least 1/8" in places. For display and fun, sure, order it. However if you are considering a badass looking tool you would actually use, I think this needs far too much work for the price. I really think I am going to return it, which makes me sad.Oh the end of the axe handle was just lopped off, is crookedly cut and looks like it was half broken off. Could easily be fixed, but just too much other issues for me to keep it.

I like this axe very simple and well constructed
I like this axe very simple and well constructed. There is a rivet on the side but to be more precocious I did put split in the center to make it stronger. The axe head is hefty so I did grind it to make it a little more comfortably when swinging. The haft seems to be made of pine. Other than that it has held up in my reactment groups and has under gone an abusive test and has held up

meh
Lets start with its a 60$ ax. Some of us rape pillage and plunder on a budged. The pinging is more than obvious machine done. It doesn't resemble hammering at all. The "hardwood" handle is wood and there for harder than other things. I sanded the bottom of the handle since it was cut crooked. It felt like pine, sanded like pine, and smelt like pine. If it isn't pine they must've crossed pine and "hardwood". This is obviously nowhere near a authentic or hardwood piece of hardware. You did pay 60$ so how much can you complain.

We found America
After months at sea, we reached the shores of a new land, greeted by a handsome native people we called Skraelings. We replenished our long boats, and with trumpets blaring, headed south to whqt is now FLORIDA, and enjoyed the weather there. We found the fountqin of youth, and have never moved. The axe? we traded it for aligator skin shoes and a box of cigars.
