Is this digestable rawhide?

No, my dog could not digest it and it gave him a bad case of gastroenteritis, resulting in a very expensive vet bill. I have sword off rawhide after this scary incident. Greenie are much better.

I cannot physically (bad oe) cut, break apart or use garden shears for the large so is there a way to soften them first?

I think that any way you may try to soften them (wth water) will wash away the beneficial enzymes that are on/in these. These are like rawhide pieces. Maybe if you just give the dog 1 large piece for 5 to 10 minutes every day until it is gone?

How do we get a refund or replacement? The last bag I got had barely 15 chews in them. Half the normal qty.

Do any sizes have thinner chews? the xl contains mixture of thick & thin chews. my heavy chewer dog won’t chew the thick ones

The smaller sizes are shorter, but I don't recall them being thinner, overall. We've used shorter ones before, but she ate them very rapidly. This size has been better for her. She's a shepard mix, about 75 lb. The first time she had one, it took her about 20 minutes. Thereafter, about 10.
