Does this plastic box actually aid in mission planning or battle-drills, or is it just called tactical to sell more units?

I actually have one of these and it’s pretty handy. The only draw back is the Navy keeps calling me to train the Seal Teams. Kind of annoying, but great box.

Do magpul 30 round pmags fit correctly in this mag can?

The product description already answers your question.... You just have to actually read it first... I’ll quote directly from the product description for you.. “ The slots were designed for the Magpul PMAG 30 AR/M4 magazines without dust covers. Dust covers are not needed in an O-ring sealed can. Will hold only 6 Magpul PMAG 30 AR/M4 with Ranger Plates & dust covers on. They don’t fit under the handle indentation on the lid when closed” You’re welcome :)

How many 30 rd pmags with ranger plates can you fit?

Funny how people don’t answer the question you asked. I returned mine as it only held eight, 30 round Pmags with Ranger plates, Even then I had to store the Pmags with the Ranger Plates down in the foam. Kind of undermines the reason for the Ranger Plates. If you are using Pmag dust covers they will tear the foam when you remove the Pmags. If you don’t use the dust covers you may damage the feed lips on the Pmags if you are storing your Pmags with the feed lips on the bottom of the case.

Do these cans fit in the 3 or 4 slot ammo crates that mtm makes? (ac3c 3-can ammo crate or ac4c ammo crate)

No, they will not fit either. This can is a MAGAZINE CAN. The crates you mentioned are for the mil spec 30cal or 50 cal AMMO CANS. MTM makes versions for both their 30cal and 40cal MTM Ammo Cans as well.
