Great Product!!
Made my deck project extremely easy! These made my deck railings sturdy and secure and they look great! Some posts need to be trimmed or sanded to fit into them (wood swells) but once inserted and secured they are extremely sturdy.

Ignore the impatient DIY'ers
I took the time to read reviews and prepared myself for mistakes made by others. Read the following and these bases will be everything you hope them to be as they have been for me!Breakage problems:When putting any screw into something plastic, set the ratchet on your drill to the #3 setting. Do this, and there is no way you will break the plastic you are screwing into. The people who complain about breaking these things are not following this simple rule. I installed 8 of them, did not come close to breaking any of them! There are twelve screws in each base. You do not need to bury these screws into the base to provide a solid home for your railing posts. You only need to screw them in until they are snug and your #3 ratchet setting starts skipping. My railings are extremely solid with very little movement following this protocol.Size of opening:I installed eight cedar 4x4's (3.5"x 3.5") into these bases with no needed influence. They fit perfectly. If you are using green treated or cedar toned treated simply take your tape measure with you to Menards, Home Depot, or Lowe's and measure the posts you are looking at to make sure you are not buying newly treated pine lumber. If they are still wet as most of them will be... they will be swollen and will not measure 3.5"x 3.5," which means they will not fit into a base holder that measures exactly, 3.5"x 3.5". Fail to measure before buying and you will be sanding or trimming them in some way. This is not the fault of the base. Use common sense as we all know that very few boards will measure what is advertised, so take your tape, and save yourself the hassle.Overall experience:I think these bases look very industrial, are very easy to work with and provide a very rigid end product. Add some black railing holders and you'll have a winning hand. My railings look great and are very sturdy. These bases exceeded my expectations and were a fraction of the work of attaching your posts to the inside of your structure and having to custom cut your decking planks around them. They provide a great look and railings that are very sturdy.

Quick and secure
As long as you have good support underneath for these, they are awesome. I'm very pleased by how easy these were. I would recommend and will buy again.

Words can't express the value of this product
I'm a very small 71 year old woman, but with the aid of these base supports I am able to build a 16 X 40 foot deck all by myself. I admit, due to my age, size, and health conditions the project is slow going, but these bases make setting the post and getting it straight a breeze. I've never used base supports before so I was very concerned about how sturdy they would be. I cut off the flange that attached deck posts to the side of my deck, and just set the post in the base and screwed it down. It takes 12 screws to attach the base to the deck, and another 8 screws to attach the post. These are made of a very strong plastic so there will never be any rust. After going to the expense of having a metal deck rail installed and seeing it start to rust the same summer it was installed, well, I'm happy to give this space-aged plastic a try. These state they are 3.5 X 3.5 and they really are. The only problem is a 4X4 deck post that once was 3.5X3.5 is now only 3.1 X 3.1. But the sizing isn't the fault of the product. I was able to make it work for me and paired with the black rail hangers, it adds a nice "finished appearance" to my deck.

Much easier install with couple simple tips and tricks
All the video of notching post say that this is no longer code. Alternative of carriage bolting post to outside ... of cutting hole in deck and bolting them inside .. neither appealed to me. So knew these were the way to go when I came across them.Just finished installing them and wanted to share couple of tips:1) Set post on top of support just to see which sides and parts of bottom need trimming2) Use a small block plane or wood shaping (grate) tool to slightly round the bottom edge and corners of the post .. makes it much easier to get these in.3) Screw in the support to the deck prior to steps 1 & 24) Don't force post .. look down sides to see bottom parts that need more trimming .. don't swivel or twist post as this will crack top of support.5) After getting post into the support .. it will still feel somewhat loose .. don't worry, top screws make it much more solid6) Use post level to position post so it is level all ways7) While positioning put in top screws to keep it in level positionThat's it ... now post should be level with each other and very secure ... love how easy it was to put in ... and how they look.

I would give these 10 Stars if I could!!!
I need to start out by saying that I've never replaced a deck before. After doing some research online, I realized what I should do and what I shouldn't.My deck is only 12x6, with a small lower level that I will be sanding down and painting soon. I tried to simply follow what the previous homeowners did and replace the lumber piece by piece. This includes the notched 4x4 posts. Huge mistake. After battling with trying to figure out how to notch my own posts, I realized that method is simply not as strong as I'd like. The posts were moving back and forth as well as left and right about 1/4"-1/2".I found these post flanges and realized this is exactly what I should have done from the get go. I ripped down my railing and notched posts and started over. These are Extremely easy to use. It cut my time down by at least half. The posts are 100 times more secure than they were when I had them notched.I had a question before I received the flanges. I contacted the seller through Amazon. Within an hour, Billy called my cell phone. He helped me with all of my newbie questions and made me feel at ease with installing these. I wish more companies had customer service like that.If you are on the fence whether or not should should try these... TRY THEM!! You will love them.
