DHS Tar Shampoo – 8 Oz, Clarifying Coal Tar Scalp Treatment

Gets rid of itchiness and really deep cleans your scalp like nothing else. Contain no dyes or perfumes at all, this is the only tar-based shampoo without those ingredients. While it does smell like an industrial grade cleaning product, the scent easily goes away with a good conditioner and by rinsing well. I recommend not overusing this shampoo because it can dry your hair and scalp out like crazy, twice a week is enough. A little pricey for such a small bottle, but we'll worth it considering the high quality ingredients and effectiveness.

I have psoriasis on my scalp and my forearms. Had been using a topical cream for arms and a medicated prescribed shampoo that I was using for *years* until it wasn't working as effectively...went to the dermatologist and pretty much experimented with 10+ different products that either didnt work or were so gross (like straight oil on the scalp). Same with forearms...oily topicals that got on everything. I just wanted to be able to wash my hair again and have the issue go away :( it wasn't until I just so happen to dye my hair a few days before my dermatologist appointment that we learned my symptoms only subsided after i dye it. She sends me home with samples of this shampoo. not only did it CLEAR MY SCALP but it CLEARED UP MY FOREARMS?! Actual miracle. Ive been using this stuff for almost 2 years and haven't had any flair ups. The smell isn't ideal in the sense it doesnt smell like typical shampoo as it IS tar shampoo after all lol. but it isn't so strong/bad that your hair will smell like it after. I always follow up with conditioner like normal and my hair will just smell like that conditioner. I have long thick hair that I absolutely adore and I dont feel its negatively effected my hair quality at all, obviously if you dont follow up with conditioner it will feel dry but thats with all shampoos. (I use Redken all soft conditioner). Highly highly recommend giving this a try if you've tried everything else and nothing works. It will surprise you!!

I’ve had psoriasis for most of my life. I’m no stranger to this type of shampoo. I used to use a well known and easily found name brand but they changed their formula and I can’t use it anymore. I needed a fragrance free shampoo and found this one. It is truly fragrance free which is nice since I’m allergic to many fragrances. It also does a great job at calming the itchiness and irritation of my psoriasis. It doesn’t seem to strip my hair like the one I used before so my hair doesn’t feel as dry after using it which is a real plus. I’ve purchased it several times so I’ve used it for quite some time and it works as well as the other brand but in my experience it seems to be a bit more gentle on my hair. I highly recommend it.

I've been seeing a dermatologist for itchy, scaly scalp. He determined that it was Psoriasis. After using a strong prescription shampoo for four weeks, my dermatologist recommended alternating between the prescription shampoo, DHS tar shampoo and my regular shampoo. He even provided sample of the DHS tar shampoo. His instructions were to work the shampoo into a lather and leave it in for 20 minutes prior to a thorough rinse. This seems to be working for me. Unfortunately, my hair smells like asphalt for a few hours after using it. I felt the need to follow up with a really good hydrating conditioner.

I got this for my dandruff and itchy scalp after trying other products. My skin is really sensitive so this worked without triggering my allergies. However the tar is really strong smelling.

All of a sudden, my Chihuahua had dandruff. I tried several expensive shampoos and nothing worked until I used this cole tar shampoo on her. Now she has no dandruff, but smells a little bit like cold guitar, so I have to purchase some sort of organic fragrance for her, but that is better than her having dandruff!

The smell does seem like Tar.. very stinky
