Gorgeous and functional
This high-quality Italian-made jar is just beautiful. I bought it to store small amounts of natural yeast starter, and it is just the right size. It may not be big enough for some starters, though. Since I don't think I'll want more than 6 cups of starter at any one time, I think it will be just right for my purposes. There are other Bormioli jars which are bigger that may be better suited for some starters. I've uploaded some pictures, and one of them does show the 11" danish dough whisk. That does *not* mean the whisk comes with the jar; you're buying *only* the jar when you purchase this listing. I showed it with the whisk, though, to address the one reviewer who said it doesn't fit. Perhaps she was using the 14" danish dough whisk instead, because you can clearly see that my 11" whisk fits down into the jar without issue. I'll use it to stir the starter. When the lid is clasped shut, the jar is a little over 8 1/2" tall. It's a 4" square jar (with a round lid), but the clasp adds about 1 1/2" to one dimension; so realistically, it's 4" by about 5 1/2". The opening of the jar is just under 3 1/2" (ID). Plenty big enough to accommodate the 11" danish dough mixer, but definitely not big enough for the large whisk. The extremely tight-fitting lid with its gasket makes this jar suitable for storing any product that needs protection from bugs or moisture. For starters, the lid should be left ajar during certain times, to allow air in and gases to escape. It could be dangerous to close it up tightly when the gases need released. The jar comes "unassembled", as it were; you have to put the gasket on after you wash the jar. It's in the bottom of the jar during shipment and the lid is protected by a piece of paper with the Bormioli logo. The sticker on the lid is one that removes very easily and doesn't leave any sticky residue. You peel that off and wash and dry the jar and gasket and put the gasket on the lid. The metal mechanism wasn't centered, but it's movable so I just turned it a bit and it lined up to the center. Very nice product, and I'm sure I'll be buying more (I have 6 of the 2 liter jars for storing homemade dry baking mixes and they're great, too). I like that they're all square, since they take up less space that way. I'm a little bummed that I had to pay 3 dollars more than what it's selling for now, but it's okay. I think it's worth the money I paid since it is a sturdy jar that will undoubtedly last many years.

Classic and practical
I love the look of this jar with its blue top and wire bail. I have a lot of these jars of different sizes. I think they're classy, timeless and they keep things fresh. When family come to stay, these jars come out of the pantry to sit on the counter with walnuts, brown sugar, candied ginger and dark chocolate candy. That way people can snack, sweeten their tea or cereal in the morning, nibble on good chocolate or some candied ginger (great for an after dinner treat). I wanted this jar to complement the one I purchased last week. I refer to them as french jars, but these are made in Italy! It's easy to get replacement gaskets when the current ones eventually get brittle. So the jars last a long time. I think they are much better than plastic containers.

Perfect for making CDS.
I ordered this to make CDS (CD dissolved in H2O). It's just the right size to hold 300 ml of filtered or distilled water and a shot glass to which equal parts of the A and B solution to make CD are added (5 ml each). If you're looking for a jar for this purpose, this is the one. How I use this jar for making CDS: Fill the jar with 300 ml of filtered or distilled water. Set the shot glass with the CD solution inside and shut the lid. Store in a dark cupboard. Wait 24 hours and remove the shot glass. Save the CD mixture to another container and repeat the process by adding the shot glass with the same amount of activated CD one more time. Wait 24 hours. Remove the shot glass, and close the jar. The remaining product should be a CDS of ~ 3000 ppm (test paper can confirm). Do not inhale fumes and prepare CD and open the CDS container outside in fresh air as a precaution. In other words, follow all enclosed instructions with your CD kit (also sold on Amazon). The cleansing/maintenance amount that I use is 10 ml CDS in 1 liter of H2O taken in 10 doses throughout the day. This is the Andreas Kalcker method that I use and not intended as supplement advice for anyone else. CDS is good for sterilizing water, cutting boards, counters, washing produce, etc. Don't expose to any sunlight or to interior lights for very long for best results. Store in a cool dark place. This is a great prep item for emergencies and this jar is the BEST way I've found to make it. This jar is the perfect size for my purposes. It is very thick and sturdy and has a thick rubber gasket that makes it air-tight and holds in the CD gas for conversion to CDS. I recommend. My rating: FIVE STARS.

Recommended.
Haave purchased and repurchased the Italian Fido jars with swing lid numerous times. Replacing the plastic containers. Wash up by hand nicely. Keep everything air tight. Love the swing top lid and versatility of these. HIghly recommend.

RING OUTDOOR CAM IN A JAR, IN MY POND . . .
Used this to place my RING OUTDOOR STICK-UP CAM inside so I can watch my fish from my RING APP. So far so good. Need to make some adjustments so the camera lens is right up close to the glass, it's a bit blurry, other than that, no leaks, signal is strong, and I can see my fishes and snails, etc. NOTE: stripped the wires down to super small, i.e the bare wire almost, then placed some super glue gel around the wire, squished the wire into the seal, and boom, snapped the lid shut and plopped her in, set a rock on top and see the pictures, we got fish! X . . . Fingers crossed no leaks. :P

135 ounce Jug-Jar-Canister_ See Vid-Pics_ Italian Glass Company_ now owned by venture capitalists
This is definitely 4 1/2 stars. a very solid built jug/jar_ a bit bigger than a gallon. Empty it weighs a bit over 3 1/2 pounds_ so it will be heavy when filled with whatever u plan on using it for. i purchased 2_ i want 2 use for flour and sugar_ i'm switching over most of my food storage to glass instead of plastics._ at $9-ish each_ it was a very good deal._ i chose this size because other reviewers said it will hold 5 pound bags of flour & sugar. the rubber gasket and latching hardware make it air tight and water tight the mouth of the jar/jug is big enuf for my hand to move in and out_ so these would also make good cookie jars . the opening, at approx 3 1/4" - 3 1/2" wide_ is wide enuf for my round stainless steel 1/2 cup measuring cup to enter_ but my 1 cup - round- stainless measuring cup won't fit in the opening_ SEE PICS. if u r looking for a plastic container that has a big enuf opening for a round- 1 cup measure- to fit thru easily_ i recommend u buy the Stauffer's 4 lb 14 ounce container of animal crackers_ it's less expensive than 1 of these jars- plus u get all the animal crackers- and the plastic container is in a square shape and sturdy.- approx the size of a pad of writing paper- height- width_ approx 30" around with a 4 1/4" to 4 1/2" opening.- the cap doesn't allow it 2 b completely air tight once the seal is broken- i can hear air whistle in/out when i squeeze the container_ if u cut a piece of silicone baking mat to fit in the container top- that may add the xtra seal needed 2 make it more air tight._ i bought a large container of Stauffer's animal crackers here on amazon for $6-ish_ u can also get them at the club stores. Stauffer's Original Animal Crackers - 4lb 14oz tub i took a video so u can see how they come 2 u and how it fairs in a leak test_ i also took measurements and 13 close up pics of the labels and hardware that locks the top down. i hope that u find some of this helpful. Love These Bormioli Rocco Fido Square Jars With Colored Lids!
Over the course of a year I have ordered multiple Bormioli Rocco Fido square jars in several sizes, including: two in this size with the blue lid (33 3/4 oz), a 25 1/4 oz, four in the 17 1/2 oz size, and a 6 3/4 oz. I was so happy to get rid of all my old plastic storage containers (some of which I am sure contained the dreaded BPA) and replace them with these wonderful jars. I use this size to store my medicinal Essiac tea (which I make up by the quart), stews, and coffee beans. I use other sizes to store nuts, homemade salad dressings, homemade condensed cream of mushroom soup (all organic, and so much better tasting in recipes than store bought canned), homemade stir-fry sauce (so all we have to do is measure out what we need, when we need it - so quick and easy!), homemade salsas and 'cowboy caviar,' as well as left over sauces, soups, etc. Hubby takes soup, stew. pasta dishes, etc. in the 17 1/2 oz size to work for his lunches. These jars are also perfect to use for storing sourdough bread starters in the refrigerator. I love that these containers are clear; I can see which container is holding what I'm looking for at a glance. They are attractive, versatile, and easy to care for; made from heavy, quality glass that will last forever when taken care of properly. Although the base is square, the (wide) mouth is round, so any right-sized gasket will work. Official Fido Bormioli Le Parfait Jar Rubber Gaskets Seals Original From Italy Sealed Pack of 6 are available right here at Amazon, however, if you prefer those. I consider these jars a great investment, and will be getting more. PROS * jars made in Italy from strong, shatter resistant quality glass * versatile - can be used to store wet or dry foods, in cupboards or refrigerator; attractive enough for the countertop * dishwasher safe WITHOUT gasket and metal * lead free * BPA free * replacement rubber gaskets readily available * available in a variety of sizes ( from 6 3/4 oz to 67 3/4 oz - square bottomed and round bottomed, with four different lid color options (clear glass sprayed with organic European varnishes) * more sanitary than plastic storage options; can be sterilized * lasts longer than plastic and other glass products that lack the quality of Bormioli * because they are clear - it is quick and easy to identify what is stored inside * sealed with air tight gaskets ... foods stay fresher longer CONS * a bit pricey, really, but better quality than many other glass options. * I don't have enough counter or cupboard space for all the Bormioli jars I would like to collect COMMENTS: * only the glass is advertised as dishwasher safe. Not realizing this at the time, the first time I washed the jar in the dishwasher I kept the metal on. When I took the jar out after the drying cycle I noticed a weird white powdery residue on the metal, but was able to clean it off. To remedy this, if I do put jars with metal in the dishwasher, I stop the dishwasher just before the drying cycle begins, rinse off the jar metal (to remove all traces of dishwasher detergent residue), put the jar w/metal back in the dishwasher, and let it run through the drying cycle. No powdery residue or discoloration on the metal. * although I'm sure that the jars are airtight when the gasket is new/not worn, I have had some leakage from a jar when tipped to the side after using the gasket only a few times. NOTE: I paid full price for my Bormioli Rocco Fido Square Jar with Blue Lid; I did not receive the product for free or at a discount in exchange for an evaluation. So, why did I take the time to write a detailed review? Because, like you, I rely upon the comments and experiences of other consumers when making an Amazon purchasing decision.

Good quality. It’s just like the picture.
It met my expectations, it perfectly matched and replaced a similar older model which was misplaced in ‘the move’.
