Nordic Naturals Algae Omega, 715mg Vegan EPA+DHA, Plant-Based - 120 Count

I’ve been taking Nordic Naturals Algae Omega for about a year now, and it has become a regular part of my daily routine. I take one softgel per day, and overall I’ve had a very positive experience. One of the biggest concerns with omega-3 supplements is the taste and aftertaste, and this is where these really stand out. As long as you swallow the softgel whole, there is no fishy taste or burps at all. If you accidentally bite into one, you’ll notice a bit of a marine/seaweed taste (which is expected since it’s algae-based), but taken properly, it’s not an issue. The bottle itself has a slight seaweed smell, but nothing unpleasant or unusual for this type of supplement. The softgels are on the larger side, so that’s something to be aware of. Personally, I don’t have any trouble swallowing them, but if you typically struggle with larger pills, this could be something to consider. In terms of results, it’s always hard to say definitively with supplements, but after taking these consistently for a year, I do feel like my energy and focus have improved. Whether that’s directly from this supplement or not is hard to prove, but I’ve continued taking them because I believe they are helping. I also really appreciate that this is a plant-based omega-3 source, which is important to me as a vegetarian. It feels like a clean, high-quality alternative to fish oil, without the common downsides. I’ve been very satisfied with this omega-3. It’s a excellent plant-based source of EPA and DHA, the softgels are simple to take, and I don’t experience any fishy aftertaste. It fits seamlessly into a vegan lifestyle and gives me peace of mind that I’m using a quality omega-3 supplement. Highly recommended!

I am a vegetarian mom and love this product. I have used it throughout all 3 of my pregnancies, from the beginning, during postpartum, and on and off since then. The softgels are easy to swallow and I really appreciate that there is no unpleasant aftertaste or smell, which is often an issue with supplements like this. I take 2 at night. I also like that the recommended dose isn’t overly high like many other supplements (some require 3 or more), although I do wish it was just 1 pill per day for convenience. Overall, it’s a clean, reliable omega supplement that I feel good about taking long-term. Highly recommend.

I’m vegan and I don’t do fish oils. This was recommended to me by Dr. Neil Nedley. He does a depression and anxiety recovery program. I take three a day to keep the inflammation down in my body. It’s an amazing product. I order this frequently. The oil from fish is not naturally occurring in their bodies. They eat the algae that has the omega-3. Don’t buy into the hype and go straight to the source.

Was advised by two sources to start taking omega-3 and looked into vegetarian options as alternate to fish oil. These fit the requirements nicely. More expensive than fish oil but sustainable and lets the fishes live. Just started taking them so no no noticeable affect (if ever noticed). But..easy, non greasy. Great source.

Finally, our products are stored in temperature-controlled warehouses prior to shipping, and we closely manage our inventory rotation so products spend minimal time in transit. This is one of a few different Omega 3 supplements I purchased recently. This and the one by Amala Vegan were the only ones allegedly sourced from Algae, so those are the two I'm going to be comparing for this review. So this one, the dose size is 2 pills. The pills are about half an inch long and a little more then a quarter of an inch wide, which is slightly larger then Amala's, but I swallowed both of them at the same time without any difficulty. These, when I opened them up, they smell like seaweed and they taste like kelp on my tongue. Which I thought was a huge improvement over Amala's, which smelled like fish and tasted like Tuna. And since I wasn't always the vegetarian I am today, I find that very interesting. And at this point, I'm planning on passing Amala's off to my hubby, who is not a vegetarian, and won't really care about the taste or...whatever may be causing the differences in taste. The dose of omega 3's is higher in these, which is good, but it is still below all of the therapeutic uses for Omega 3. So if you are using this for anything other then a dietary supplement, like say for depression, or cancer, or whatever....it's really a rather long list of things Omega 3/6 supplementation can benefit actually...Mayo clinic's website has a great rundown of the conditions and the doses, and you can up the number of pills on these accordingly. Of course, that will get pricey. For depression, you'd need to take about 4 of these pills a day. Taking more on these is an option because it doesn't have vitamin E in it, which is something Amala does add to theirs, and because vitamin E has some harmful side effects if you exceed the recommended daily allowance, medically it's not really safe to take multiple doses of their product to get the omegas up to a therapeutic level, so that's one that I recommend you just take if you need supplemental omegas in your diet. My one note of caution on these is for pregnant women. These have Rosemary extract in them, so if you are pregnant, or planning on becoming so, this isn't something you should be using because there is a possibility it can stimulate your uterus and lead to miscarriage. That applies to anything oral with rosemary extract actually. So just an FYI. But if you're not pregnant, I don't see any reason why these wouldn't work well for you. I'm not experiencing any unpleasant aftertaste like I was yesterday with Amala's, so I think these are generally pretty non-offensive, and this company has an established track record in the supplement industry. If you don't want to taste seaweed, or want something that will be cheaper for a therapeutic dose, you could try flax oil supplements...that's what's up next on my to-be-tried list...Best of luck to you :)
