Lakeshire Park (Proper Romance Regency)

Sweet and Clean
I preordered this book when Julianne Donaldson was promoting it. I rarely do that, for the record. I love her books and thought it’s a good recommendation if it came from her.I really enjoyed it! If I am being nit picky, there were some predictable parts, some things I don’t believed would have happened, and a little too much miscommunication.I liked the characters! I haven’t read too many romances lately were I actually like all the main people, especially the man. I loved that it was a slow romance and they really enjoyed being in each others company.I think it is written in a similar style to Julianne. If you liked Edenbrooke or Blackmore, you’ll enjoy this one too.Love prevails and they live happily ever after!

More than 5 stars! My favorite book of the year!
Lakeshire Park is easily my favorite book of the year! It definitely falls within my top 5 favorite books ever. The love story, oh my goodness, was so good! So swoon-worthy! Peter was the best hero, funny, charming, sweet! And Amelia was my favorite type of heroine, spunky, witty, bold, self-sacrificing, and yet awkward in her circumstances. The chemistry between the characters flew off the page and made it hard to put the book down. The scenery was beautifully described and the fun antics and witty banter between the characters was beyond fun. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a clean romance and wants to get lost within its pages.

A beautiful story of two people falling in love
Lakeshire Park is such a beautiful story of two people falling in love, and there are a number of really beautiful moments throughout the book.Amelia Moore is a self sacrificing person whose heart is drawn to naturally put others first, especially her sister Clara. I think it is more about being naive but Clara comes off as selfish. There is no way she doesn’t know about Amelia and Peter spending time together yet she never asks Amelia about it and only cares about her own comfort. As the story is told in first person we don’t know Peter Wood’s inner dialogue but I still feel like the reader is given a true connection to him. He thinks of himself as selfish but he puts his sister first as long as things are done in a fair way.The first meeting between Peter and Amelia was a little strange to me. Peter clearly had the gloves first and Amelia was so put out for so long because he wouldn’t give them to her. Why did she deserve what he had first? And why was he crawling out from under the table?I found the story very interesting and it moved along at the perfect pace. I also liked the characters and found them very realistic.I would love a sequel with Georgiana and Pendleton and we could see a little of what Peter and Amelia are up to. I’m not ready to leave these characters.Favorite quotes:"You never know who you are hurting by denying kindness.""Before he died, he told me to remember that some things aren’t worth being angry over, but plenty of things are worth fighting for. It is a motto I try to live by.""I don’t mind the trouble. As long as I’m with you."

A New Favorite
It’s been such a long time since I’ve adored a book as much as I adored "Lakeshire Park", but from the moment I began reading, I was sucked into Megan Walker’s beautiful writing and even more beautiful story. The romance between Amelia and Peter captivated me from the beginning and didn’t let me go as it gently led me from one wonderful and romantic scene to the next as the relationship between our hero and heroine deepened and unfolded. It was simply a delightful, magical story, and I’m trying to find the words to describe why I loved it so much. The prose was gorgeous, while Amelia’s first-person narration was both immersive and added an element of mystery for us not to know what Peter was thinking. Both Amelia and Peter were fantastic characters who had fantastic chemistry with one another and helped each other experience such satisfying growth throughout their story. The conflict of both of their sisters wanting to marry the same man and both Amelia and Peter wanting their happiness added some wonderful tension that made this enemies-to-lovers romance even more engaging. Their journey of falling in love and finally coming together was utterly delightful, charming romantic, and truly beautiful."Lakeshire Park" has definitely become a new favorite. I enjoyed every moment of it and know this is a delightful story I’ll not only treasure but reread many more times. I can’t wait to see what Megan Walker writes next.

It was cute
This was a cute book, but a bit fluffy and flowery. Not entirely sure how to explain that better, but there were several parts that were just a bit much. I've never been a fan of twirling scenes. They seem ridiculous to me. And, there were several in here like that. There were also several inconsistencies between the language and mannerisms, and the time period it was supposedly taking place. In my opinion, too much modern was brought in. And, if I wanted modern, I would have read a novel set in modern-day.That all being said, it wasn't terrible. If you don't mind a bit of fluff and and would like a nice, easy, romantic read, then I would recommend this book. It was definitely better written than many other books that've come out recently, including ones in the 'Proper Romance' series. And, I'm a fan of the series.

Megan Walker’s newest fan!
Oh my goodness, I did not want this story to end. I don’t give five stars easily, but this book earned every single one of them. Let me just say, it will forever be in my library as a favorite. It is a very rare thing with these breezy Regency romances to find characters this multifaceted and genuine. Nothing in this story is forced cheesiness. You smile along with the witty banter, you cheer for their happiness, you understand their faults and feel their raw struggles. I had to stay up all night to devour this story in one sitting. It is such a special book and I absolutely cannot wait to buy up anything Megan Walker puts out in the future. Bravo!“Your company is, simply put, my favorite luxury.” -Peter ❤️

A clean and sweet enemies-to-lovers romance with engaging banter and a clever final plot twist that took me by surprise
It is a while since I read a house party romance and I enjoyed the informality of the setting compared with the London season and the banter between the main characters, Peter Wood and Amelia Moore. There are a number of quotable lines and Walker wove historical details throughout the story, such as the mention of Brighton Pavilion, an officer on half pay, and the importance of gloves. I was pleased to see the baronet’s title used correctly, referring to him as Sir Ronald, using his Christian name.I felt the tension building as the book moved towards the climax and I really liked the final plot twist. Although I knew the hero and heroine had to get together (it is a romance, after all), Walker kept me guessing as to quite how the situation was going to be resolved.I am sure other readers will get lost in the romance of the story and won’t be bothered by such things, but there were a number of times when I questioned the probability of what was happening. There were also a few points of etiquette that didn’t sit right with me. However, by the end of the story, I was thoroughly invested in the characters and desperate to see how the situation could possibly resolve.Favourite quoteI wanted to be as consumed by life, by love, as I was by the notes I played. I wanted my heart to burst with longing. I wanted my soul to sing.

Shallow, inconsistent and unrealistic.
I love historical romances, but this was so full of inconsistencies that I couldn't enjoy it. Some scandalous things were not scandalous, and other unremarkable things were considered ruinous... get your facts straight. Also the character's development was inconsistent, and the story read shallow.

Escapism
If you are looking for a good regency romance, look no further.1820's England, house party on a beautiful estate, endearing main character, family secrets, dashing & witty leading man (that the main character tries hard not to like), good writing....what more could you ask for?Thoroughly enjoyable from beginning to end!
