With all of the research behind milk thistle and selenium as healthy for the liver, why does this product not contain those ingredients?

Much of the research on milk thistle in the past 20 years has been done with lab extracts, and often intravenous administration of Silymarin extracts that are commercially unavailable to consumers. Duplicating those results with an oral milk thistle product is sometimes difficult. And selenium, while supportive, is a mineral, and as an herbal company, we simply don't use minerals in our all-herb formulas. From the himalayausa.com website:"The herbal ingredients in both products are the same with the exception that the international version of Liv.52 has an additional mineral component listed as "mandur bhasma" on the label-"mandur bhasma" is Iron, also called Ferrous Oxide. The inclusion of iron into the formula remains a necessary support ingredient in developing countries where iron-deficiency is common. The United States, however, has the lowest rate of iron deficiency in the world according to the World Health Organization, making the presence of this ingredient unnecessary, and unadvised. "

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN LIVERCARE and LIV.52 is that LIV.52 contains added iron.

According to a previous answer, the difference between Livercare and Liv.52 is that Liv.52 contains iron.  For those who live in a country like the United States where iron deficiency is rarely a problem, the advice is that you should not take supplements  fortified with iron because ingesting too much iron presents health problems.  I live in the USA and am not iron deficient, according to my recent blood panels tests, so I will use Livercare which does not have added iron.
