Perfect option for a lot of holes
Loved it! Needed post holes for 4x4 posts and this did the trick nicely and quickly. I am a 60 year old woman and did not want to deal with post hole diggers. I don't have the force to make quick progress. Nor was it a big enough job to rent an auger. Those would probably be too heavy for me anyway. This works great. If you have roots or rocks or really hard clay it might take a little longer to stop and get the obstruction out but all in all if you have a bunch of holes to dig I recommend. I was using a smaller one to put in my posts that worked but this size was less work. I used an old Ryobi 18v drill I have.

Sturdy and near perfect for planting a garden
If you garden, you need a tool like this. Very sturdy piece of gear. It worked great planting tomatoes and peppers in my garden, although, I wish I had bought a longer version that's around three feet long. I wouldn't have had to bend over so much. That said, the tool is tough and held up to some fairly rocky tilled but compacted garden soil. My wife was impressed. Normally I have to use a slim shovel and dig over 100 holes and end up with a backache, no more of that. I was able to stay way ahead of her as she planted. Her comment was she had trouble keeping up with me. The key to making nice holes is to drill it in small bursts and pull the dirt up with the auger, then a quick tap on the trigger to dislodge the dirt. If you run it constantly, it throws dirt all over and becomes a little unwieldy. Also, you end up having too much dirt drop back in the hole, you don't want that. You'll figure it out after a couple of holes.I do recommend using a 1/2" chuck brushless cordless hammer drill. The key is brushless as they stay cool under heavy use. You don't need the hammer part, but 1/2" hammer drills usually have extra torque which is really helpful and they usually have a side handle which is good for stability. I killed my old B&D 3/8" cordless drill. It wasn't made for that, and started smoking after just a few holes. I switched to a 18v Ryobi 1/2" brushless cordless drill (any brand will do though), and it never even got warm. So this auger is great tool and sold at a fair price. It's definitely worth having.

Killed my drills
Update: I added a star back for post-review service. The seller reached out with a make-good offer after reading the review. Very refreshing that a seller cares about the quality of their product. A+ for reliability and post-sale service.---------------------------------So for the good news... these are very sturdy and are pretty good and digging through dirt. They'll get down a few inches pretty easily. They're great for light duty digging or putting in bulbs. Now for the bad news... any prolonged use of this will kill your drill. I have a B&D battery and corded drill. Used them heavily for years with no issue. 15 minutes with these bits and they each died - as in overheated and now sound really funky to use. Granted, I was doing some pretty hefty digging so keep that in mind. These bits take a lot of force to move dirt and that force is translated directly to the drill. Maybe if you're using a high-end drill it woudn't have the same effect but I can't use these anymore with what they did to my drill.

Works!
This thing WORKS!! Best tool I have ever used to plant seedlings! So much easier than a hand trowel. Yes, you must have a drill, which most should have, and that is it. Put holes anywhere you wish in seconds. Hold drill firmly and adjust speed accordingly, raising bit in and out of hole to clear the dirt from hole. It's that simple and quick. Buy one and you will agree! The 4" x 12" bit is perfect! Plant your seedlings and reap the benefits of your own garden!

Great product
This product makes planting bulbs so easy it took me about an hour to make holes all around my property, and all I did was drop the bulbs in and cover them.

One honest review
Works as described but........I have very hard soil and the shaft that goes into the drill strips out. It would be better if it actually had a hex shaft, or a quick release shaft, something for the drill to grab onto.

Just Wow
Received this bad boy yesterday and used it today and I am beyond impressed. Made this planting project go alot faster than expected. Very easy to use and clean. True to size, made from durable material, digs right through the soil. Excellent for starter holes. A must have for avid gardners. Just buy it. My only negative was not buying it sooner. 5 Stars!*****
