Great book. Worth picking up. Really nice exercise in here.

This is one of those rare, "how to do it" books that is entirely practical: It is well-written; well-organized; concise; and omits nothing, while containing nothing superfluous. It is for the intermediate level classical guitar player who wants to improve their playing technique, and with it, improvement is virtually certain.The primary focus of the book is on developing technique not simply for its own sake, but to improve technique as a means to further musical goals. There is detailed information on posture; the right arm and hand; the left arm and hand; practicing; phrasing; and on correcting and avoiding poor habits. The level of detail that Quine provides would be difficult to find outside of graduate school.I learned more from this book than from 4 years of classical guitar lessons.

As the other reviews have stated, this is a fantastic book. It's very much like Strunk and White's Elements of Style, but for guitarists. It may be writeen for classical guitar but it got me to realize all the errors I was making that basic guitar methods never point out. In this way, and although I'm a "self-trained" guitarist, I was able to pick out all the little errors I was making. For example, I did not realize, until I had read this book, that my left-hand grip was collapsing on my thumb. By picking out this error early, I've saved myself hours of re-training and stress on the knuckles.Note that this book is excellent for micromanagement of technique, by which I mean that it assumes basic knowledge of guitar technique, but is concerned most with the nuances of technique. At what angle do I position my hands when I play? What is the most "economic" hand position?

Though written principally for the clsssical guitarist, Quine's well-written and well-designed text offer food for thought for any guitarist seeking to attain technical proficiency. Every guitarist should read this book.

I really like this book...and I have many on Classical Guitar technique.......I use it in conjunction with Charles Duncans two manuals 'The Art of Classical Guitar Playing' and its companion 'Classical Guitar 2000.' If you are serious about learning thi beautiful instrument add this little book to your library.

I have played the classical guitar for many years to a reasonable standard. I bought the book at a very reasonable price having heard about Hector Quine from an article I had read. The section on guitar position and method is outstanding and very clearly written. I have now changed my playing position with excellent results and a much improved performance level. This book is gem for l players of all standards.

although this book is a little old, but is necessary to read for all classical guitarists who want to enter the advanced level...
