Is this product good for my quad trailer?

Yes, absolutely. Rust Bullet coatings work great on almost any type of metal surface. They stop existing corrosion and keep it from coming back, and on new metal, they keep rust from forming to begin with. They are all UV, scratch, chip, and chemical resistant. Rust Bullet Automotive is metallic gray in color, like the dull side of aluminum foil. You can leave it as is, or if you want a different color you will need to topcoat. We also have DuraGrade Color - a new formulation that is available in multiple different colors, and you would not need to apply a minimum 2 coats DuraGrade in the color of your choice, instead of using two products.

Can you apply this with a brush?

Yes, Rust Bullet Coatings can be applied with a brush, roller or spray equipment. When using a brush, a bristle brush should be used. Do not use foam as foam does not transfer enough product to the surface for protection.

What thinners can be used?

Accepted Answer

It is not recommended to thin or reduce the product. It is ready to use directly from the can. You’ll want to adjust your equipment as opposed to adjusting the coating. Thinning the coating changes the formulation and it will not work the same as when it was received. No matter how you apply it, apply in thin even coats. If using an HVLP you’ll need a 1.7-2.0 tip with 30-60 PSI. For cleaning of your equipment you can use Rust Bullet Solvent, Xylene, Toluene or MEK, which can be used for thinning, only if absolutely necessary and no more than 3%.  Do not use lacquer thinner, mineral spirits, isobutyl alcohol or paint thinner.

Does the automotive one come In black?

You have a couple options if you want a black finish. One option is the to apply the Rust Bullet Automotive. It is metallic grey in color because it contains aluminum flake, which creates a very strong barrier between the metal surface and the outside elements. Aluminum cannot be colored, so if you want a black finish, then you would need to topcoat with Rust Bullet BlackShell.

Second option is to apply the Rust Bullet DuraGrade Color.  The resins in the coating are different, they are actually stronger the Rust Bullet Automotive. This would give you a colored finish and only one type of coating is needed. You would apply two coats of the DuraGrade in the color of your choice and that is it! DuraGrade offers some unique features including significantly reduced VOC content, including Ultra Low VOC and Zero VOC, and is available in a variety of colors,  as well as custom color options for unlimited design ideas.
