This set of tools is awesome, strong

I bought my first set at Sears, but they discontinued selling them because everybody stop buying craftsman. This set of tools is awesome, strong, versatile and compact. Purchased the second set for my other car. It’s nice because you don’t have to worry whether your car is foreign or domestic. They fit.

What doesn't fit doesn't work and is frustrating for $600.

The case did not fit one tool and other pieces (6-8) fell all over when case was opened. The return was made easy. I just hope the larger set of 76 pieces will be made available to me soon for they were out of them and I hope someone is awake and checks the tools and case that they work.

Decent tool, ridiculous price!

I've had a set of these for many years now. They've held up to lots of abuse and have really come in handy. I read about them years ago in an off road magazine. They suggested them for guys like me with Jeep Cherokees. This is because, even on my 1998 Cherokee, they used both metric and standard bolts in various places. I believe the article was about traveling as light as possible while still having what you needed for trail side repairs. I still have the Jeep, still go off roading with it, and still have this tool set.Like other low reviews though, I bought this set for about $80. They had it on the clearance rack at a Sears Hardware store because it was missing the 1/4" to 1/8" adapter. I of course just bought a Craftsman adapter and had a full set. This set is worth the nearly $100 I paid for them but $400 or more? Not a chance! They are decent enough, allow me to carry about 1/2 the sockets and wrenches, and hold up pretty well. But $400 for hand tools made in Taiwan? I can't believe this company still exists. The price of these are in the Snap-on - Mac- Matco etc, territory. They are no where near the quality of those tools. They are at the same level as most decent import sets and that's it. As far as I know they do not carry a lifetime warranty. Finding a replacement for a single socket or wrench requires you to go to the manufacturer who charges even more silly prices for individual tools. In addition to the above mentioned issues there is a problem with this set. There are a few common metric sizes that aren't covered in certain drive sizes. In other words, you may have to try and use an 1/8" drive socket because the size is not available in 1/4". For the most part I've nearly always have been able to figure out a way to use what was in the kit but not 100% of the time. For $400 it should not have any common sizes missing in any drive size. Add to this, the fact that they will not work on 12 point nuts and bolts and you may find yourself in a pickle even after you spend a kings ransom for this set.If these were priced appropriately I'd recommend them. With their current pricing, I believe they are way out of the ball park and no where near worth it. Heck, you could buy two quality import sets for about 1/4 the price of this set. Yes, you have to carry and store twice as many tools but space isn't this precious.

Metrinch...add it to your wish list!

great kit,use it often,I have removed stripped nuts, bolts and spark plugs in a car dealership where the techs have Snap On, Mac, and other brands which arent made this way. A must have kit, strong and dependable.

Best socket design ever.

Awesome tool set! I have owned a set of these since the first infomercial was on back in the '90s. I have never broken a single socket, and I have tried! Breaker bars, cheater bars and 5' BFHs.. something else always breaks first. Same for combo wrenches. I have stripped a bolt with the open end because I couldn't get the box end on and used a pipe, had to torch the nut off.The dual metric/standard sizes are the next best feature. For a traveling tool box this saves a lot of space. I bought a kit with every chrome socket that Crapsman makes (about 300 sockets?) for my garage, I still go out to my truck to get these tools when working on stuff.Downsides-- the case is junk. Plastic hinge will split. The combo wrench and ratchet cover will wear out and dump them every time you open the case without holding it right. The dual metric/standard sockets will have a little play on some nuts, usually no problem until your in a tight spot and can only get 1 click on the ratchet. But you will probably use a cheater bar and blow the ratchet apart, so just replace it with a fine tooth ratchet. Not ideal for impacts. The play between the socket and nut lets it bounce back too much between strikes. You can make it work by holding the socket with your hand to keep the bouncing down. (Again, even with impact, I have never broken a socket.)The first set I owned was made I Germany, now I read they are made in Taiwan. I have not noticed any degradation in quality. I will always own a set of these. I have only replaced them because I've lost them...and had a set stolen by a jealous co worker on his last day.

What's the price?

If you buy this for 400$, you're double the fool that bought the 62 piece one for 200$. This set's worth 100$ max. Couple extra bucks than what the 62 piece is worth. This is an average quality set that does what it says. Pick it up for 100$ and love the fact that it does both. If you want to spend 400$, buy a 200$ AWESOME quality standard set and a 200$ AWESOME standard set.I bought the TV 80$ version of the 62 piece Metrinch 15 years ago and love it for the convenience.
