Handmade Heroes Volumizing Non Aerosol Dry Shampoo Powder - Absorbs Oil

Thin, stringy hair runs strong in my family: My mother had it, my sister has it, & I have it as well. We also have a history of having oily scalps, and when you combine a head not-so-full of hair & a tendency for an oily scalp, what happens is that you wake up the morning after a shampoo and your hair is greasy, clumped together, and your scalp shows through around the part. You look like a dirty, drowned rat & wonder what happened during the night that made your hair so oily! Doesn't matter if you washed it the previous morning or right before bed, you're going to wake up looking like Tim Robbins after crawling through that pipe in The Shawshank Redemption. There are a few things you can do about it: 1. Wash & style your hair every single day. 2. Get a perm (the chemicals dry out the scalp & adds volume.) 3. If you don't want to wash your hair daily, find a product that keeps your scalp dry. I do not like washing & styling my hair every day (I'd rather sleep another 15 minute) and perms are expensive, so I usually go for option 3. 1. Spray on dry shampoo: it doesn't work with thin hair & oily scalp - it just leaves a thick, greasy residue that adds to the dirty hair. 2. A hat, but I can't wear them at work. 3. Corn starch powder (so long as you're not allergic to corn products) or Baby Powder. These actually do work. I go for the corn starch because it is much, much cheaper & has no fragrance. But, both options are messy - the powder is very light gets all over & you look like Marie Antionette in a powdered wig. I put it on at night before bed, then maybe a little more in the morning as I'm putting on makeup, then towel off my hair. It may look a little dusty, but at least it's dry & adds a bit of volume. So I thought to myself, "Why don't they make a powder with some color to it?" Cuz the white powder, as I said, does leave some residue & you have to really scrub your head with the towel. Even then, I tend to have dry hands & lips & can feel the grit all day. Anyway, I decided to look on Amazon to see if they had anything, and of course, they do! I found quite a few products with colored powder dry shampoos, and read through the reviews. I chose this one. I felt the price was good & so were the reviews. I was not impressed by the small bottle (wish it were bigger), but people said a little goes a long way, so I tried it for the first time last night about a half hour before bedtime. Now, I'm not sure if you're 'supposed' to put it on before bed, but that's what I usually do with the corn starch, so I did. I sprinkled it on the crown of my hair & it looked like greyish purple powder. I went back to watch the end of my tv show, and after 5 minutes, I used my fingers to comb it into my hair like the instructions say to. Upon seeing myself in the bathroom mirror before going to bed, I smirked because it looked just like the corn starch . . . or so I thought. I wake up, and the powder was almost gone from my hair (it did not mess my pillow or get on my pajamas.) My hair looked perfectly dry & normal. The greyish purple had turned brown (on my scalp) and I did not have to use any more & had no dusty residue after I brushed & styled it, no dry lips or hands, no gritty feel whatsoever. I am VERY PLEASED with this product - a little does go a long way! There was a fragrance when I put it on (it was okay), but it was totally gone in the morning. I am so glad I took a chance. I am now a customer for life! Love it!

I wish I would have known about this earlier. I used to use a major brand in a can but I hated it. I have textured hair and the other stuff dried it out and made it feel brittle. On top of that, i was using a can a week because I have a ton of waist length hair that is thick as all get out. That's just so much trash in an already, over polluted world. Plus, all the chemicals.... ewwww. I have been waiting to use this stuff till my hair had significant funk to test it out. The reviews were right, start slow. I had spray can mentality and it was heavy at first. I brushed it in and closed the dial a little. I got the formula for medium/dark hard and love it. It doesn't darken my silver hair and I love that but it also doesn't make it look dusty. It just looks fresh and voluminous. It was still shiny too and I NEVER had that with the canned stuff. This is gonna last me so much longer. Remember to get the dust out of your ears before you go out. Caught the dust in my ears and cleaned it up, right in time before I left. 😆 I can not recommend this stuff enough. I do wish they had a eco friendly refill but a can a week, has been deleted from land waste from me because of this amazing company. With my super thick and long wavy/curly hair, this one can should last me a few months. Also, doesn't make my scalp feel all dry and tight and scratchy. Just like a touch thicker than my freshly washed hair and in a really good way. Love. Love. Love.

okay listen, this one feels bougie without actually being bougie-priced. it’s a powder formula instead of an aerosol, which means no choking on a toxic cloud in your bathroom. you sprinkle it in, rub it through, and instantly look less like someone who hasn’t washed their hair in five business days. texture-wise, it’s super fine and soft, so it blends shockingly well. even on darker hair if you massage it in properly. no chalky cast, no clumps, no dandruff-lookalike situation. quality is high too: no weird smells, no scalp irritation, and it feels way lighter than most spray dry shampoos. the size is generous, and value for money is top tier because powders last forever compared to sprays. one bottle will stick around way longer than you expect. durability is also solid. i can go a full day of errands, sweat, and even laying in bed rolling my head into the pillow without my hair flipping back to oil-slick mode. functionality-wise, it’s a lifesaver for lazy days, chronic illness days, or when you just don’t want to deal with shampooing and drying. it makes me look like i actually have my life together when i absolutely do not. now, here’s the tea: it does stain clothing. like, if you’re wearing a cute light-colored top and don’t notice some powder fall, congratulations, you now have mystery gray smudges all over yourself. i learned the hard way and now i either apply it before i get dressed or shake it in the sink. overall, this stuff feels fancy, works great, and saves me from washing my hair every single day. just… maybe don’t wear your favorite pink sweatshirt while applying.

This is better than nothing and extremely affordable. I’m giving it 3 stars because I was a hairstylist for 16 years, so I know what else is out there. But, if I wasn’t in the industry, I’d probably give it 4. The good: 1. Does what it says it will! Absorbs oil. If you’re a greasy girl like me, you’ll take whatever you can get in a pinch. 2. It smells good, but let me be clear when I say “good” is synonymous with “toothpaste”. It smells like toothpaste. Minty? I like it, but once my brain made the connection, it was hard to “unsmell”. 3. Can get it same day shipped, and I’m a sucker for convenience. The bad: 1. The delivery system is terrible, and that’s if you can even muster the strength to pop the top open. It’s basically a child lock, and… I am basically a child. So that’s not helpful. When you try to sprinkle it over your hair, it will fall fast and heavy in whatever spot it’s hovering over. Difficult to get an evenly distributed application. If you buy this, plan to brush the heck out of it to blend it in. I wouldn’t do this after curling your hair, if your curls tend to fall out easily. 2. It has a strong presence in the hair. Gritty/buildup. But that’s almost unavoidable with an “aerosol alternative”. If you want weightless, go aerosol. I usually wash every other day so I don’t really care about this kind of build up, but the once a week girlies will definitely not be a fan of this.

I adore this dry shampoo, i was an avid spray dry shampoo user and i would have to use it every single day that i didn’t wash my hair. It was drying out my scalp BAD and causing breakage. I’ve been using this maybe 4-5 months and my hair is healing (it’s a long journey with the help of other products.) i apply this usually the night of hair wash day before bed. Dry shampoo works best on clean hair. I let it sit in my hair without brushing it overnight or 15 ish minutes. I then brush it out. It leaves a little white cast but it goes away within an hour or so. I wash my hair every 5 days. This picture was a second application on day 3. i probably won’t have to do another. i also notice that my hair doesn’t get to smelling dirty anymore. The one wish i have is that they would do a refill bag. The container is high quality, i even bedazzled it. So i wish instead of paying for packaging each time i could just buy a bag of it. The smell is refreshing as well.

I LOVE this dry shampoo. I was using Batise and tried Not Your Mother's brand. (Don't get me wrong, I like the Batise, it works well, but I always had to work to get rid of the white/chalky residue and I was going through a can a month, which gets expensive!!!) Anyhow, I use dry shampoo because I go 4-6 days between hair washing. (I have dirty blonde/ light brown hair naturally - my scalp is usually showing oil by end of day 1 after washing hair). I decided to give Drop Dead Gorgeous Dry Shampoo a try, and I can say, I am thoroughly pleased. Not only does the dry shampoo have a pleasant citrus scent, it also soaks into scalp nicely. I like that this powder has a tint to it, the "grey" color really soaks in nicely (I bought it because it was designed for Brunettes, so I had a feeling it wouldn't leave a white/chalky residue - and it does not!) See my pictures below, this hair day #3. My tip for application: since this is a powder, pour about a nickle/quarter size portion into small bowl/container, use an old powder foundation brush, dip brush into dry shampoo/ tap off excess, part hair in sections, brush dry shampoo into each section of scalp with Foundation brush. Also brush a bit extra from root downward (about 4 inches) to help keep hair consistent, this is essential on days 3-6 to keep hair looking fresh; the longer between washes the more natural oils travel down the hair shaft, I find it can prolong my washes by using this trick. Hope this is helpful! Also, I've had my bottle for 1 month and I've hardly made a dent in it, the stuff lasts and goes a long way. The contents of my Dry Shampoo are still above the top of the label, and I've used it A LOT in the last month. -Hannah

I bought this product back in 2021 I was as trying to make my hair healthier and get it to get super long by not washing so often or heat styling and I loved this stuff it works amazingly well…too well…over the course of the year I used the almost the whole bottle up washing my hair around once a week and using this on the other days when and if I needed to look put together or go anywhere this was during the pandemic so…anyway to be fair I probably did use it a little excessively but that really shouldn’t be a factor in what happened to me so around the last fourth of the bottle I started to notice BIG patches of missing hair like you can see my scalp kind of missing on the front sides where hair is thinnest like around the temples…so I did some research and found dry shampoo can clog the follicles and cause this so I discontinued dry shampoo use…fast forward to today my hair grew back on the left side which I think is because I sleep on my left side and the dry shampoo got wiped off my scalp from the pillow but it’s totally normal again but on the right I have a few little short thin regrowth but still a huge thin sparse half bald patch there right in the front it hasn’t gotten any better and I’m so upset that I now am left with a permanent problem for the rest of my life when I was just trying to make my hair better. I just wanted to share what happened to me in hopes I can save someone else from it happening to them. I would never use this crap again. I was very skeptical about this product and in general I order things through internet only when I don't have another alternative. Before this, I used Dove dry shampoo but decided to find a shampoo powder like to see the difference and maybe save some money? I wasn't able to find a dry shampoo powder like in any stores, so I decided to check online. I took a long time before deciding to buy this particular product, especially after reading all the negative reviews. I personally like it a lot, the only thing is that you have to wash your hair really well, especially if you buy the product for dark hair, as when you wash it you can see how the water is dirty, and after applying it on the scalp your hands remain grey, so you have to wash them. I have read some reviews that it has a smell that is too strong or that it doesn't have the new cap that would help to monitor the quantity of shampoo it poors when you try to use it. In my case none of the above is true, it does have a really nice refreshing smell, it is not too strong, but it lasts until you wash your hair giving it a fresh odor. It does absorbs the sebum very well and it doesn't leave any visible residue or visible particles of powder that would look bad. When I just got it it seemed very small and I thought it won't last longer than a month, but I bought it in April and now is September and the bottle is halfway full and I use it 3+ times a week. (I left a picture of the product size comparing to a quarter, so you can have an idea of how big it is) When it came it was very full that I had some hard time to use it the first couple weeks. I am a heavy dry shampoo user as my hair gets oily really fast, and from my experience of buying dry shampoos that were deodorant-like and comparing to this product, I can solemnly say that I saved a lot of money because before every 3 weeks I had to buy a new one. I recommend it to everyone, especially that it is based on natural ingredients and it is a good deal. I would definetely buy it again. I want to emphasize that this is not a "bought" review. PS. I bought it for dark hair. I did not have any problems with shipment and the product was securely sealed.

I've tried so many different dry shampoos but this is my first non-aerosol dry shampoo. This keeps my hair looking cleaner than anything else I've ever used, and my hair is greasy within hours of washing usually. I apply it on a night and sleep with it in and it rubs in perfectly. I recommend applying it straight to the hair and not the scalp as it can leave your scalp looking black if you don't rub it in fully. Also, the minty scent stays in your hair and keeps it fresh! I just tap a bit onto my hair, and I've been using this for over a month and there's still over 3/4 of the product left!

Easily the best dry shampoo I’ve tried. I think the first bottle I purchased was back in October 2023, and Im only on my second. A little can make a huge difference and I can make my hair last a little longer between washes (it can probably be longer depending on the person) 10/10
