Awesome!!
This keyboard is a great value no matter how you slice it.First of all, it came properly packaged and included a USB cable in its original box.Plugged it in and Logic Pro X recognized it right away. For the money, you can't beat the feel of the keyboard. If you grew up playing piano then having a keyboard that feels credible, especially if its a full 88 keys, is crucial. I had an 88 Key MAudio keyboard, and while it did the job, it didn't feel nearly as nice as this one.The keyboard noise is negligible and you won't hear it at all once you turn up your speakers.Between unpacking it and having it set up and fully functional was all of 5 minutes, with the computer connection being recognized instantaneously by Logic Pro X.Kurzweill's 88 key midi controller is probably the nicest one I've played. but it's waaaay more expensive. For under $200, you get very similar feel off the keyboard and a fully functioning midi controller that lets you get the work done, but also lets you practice your Bach. Awesome!

Great 88-key controller; sets up in seconds
I just set up my new Alesis Q88, and it is great. I read many of the reviews here before purchasing the unit, as I did not want an unnecessarily complicated experience trying to get my new board set up.Initial observations:* Set up was a breeze on a Mac. I just connected it via USB and--presto!--it immediately appeared in Audio/MIDI Setup and started working.* Yes, the length of the included USB cable is insufficient. Spend an extra dollar and get a USB A extension from Monoprice.* The keys require a little more pressure than my old Roland XP-50, but then that board is 15 years old. The Q88 is very comfortable to play.* Someone mentioned that the key edges are sharp to the point of being painful. They are perfectly fine. That was a weird complaint.* If I listen very carefully, I can hear spring noises when I press perhaps a dozen keys. Basically not a problem once the sounds are on.* Very simple interface, which in today's market of overly-complex hardware, is a definite plus. Please note that this is merely a keyboard *controller*, which means it does not have any sounds built into it the way a synthesizer does. To use this keyboard, you will need to have an external sound source which is triggered by the Q88. That is kind of common sense for recording musicians, but may not be so obvious if you are unfamiliar with the world of MIDI and digital music production. If you are looking for a unit capable of producing its own sounds, look for either a digital piano or a synthesizer-- they will cost considerably more than this controller, but will probably deliver the sounds you want.So far, I am very pleased with the Q88. It is exactly the kind of 88-key controller I was looking for.

Great product, highly recommended!
Pros: For beginners to semi pros, the keyboard is great in size, weight, and keys touch/pressure response. for $200, the product really delivers what it promises, maybe more. The bundled free Ableton Lite suite makes playing this midi keyboard and producing music a swift and easy process (it's worth upgrading to the full suite, many more instruments and unlimited functionality). You need to spend five times the money at least buying a full size electric piano and all you will get is a set of speakers, a pedal or two perhaps, and a stand/base for the piano, not worth $800 of course!! (i mean almost every house has now a PC with a decent sets of speakers, and the stand costs some $35, it's only a 10KG product!).Cons: minor things, like not being able to define the Q88 as a Control Surface in Ableton, so i am not able to use the built-in volume slider, that's why I gave it a 4 stars rather than 5 (I guess it's a windows drivers or 64bits issue, will try on an old 32 bit and update my review later). The other thing, if you are looking to give this instrument to kids, you or your kids have to be a bit techy, as it requires the Abelton suite or other MIDI based software to run to be able to play (i.e. install the software, activate and register, then open and configure for 1st use, and finally chose the instruments, all using the PC).

Excelente compra

Excellent Price vs. Performance
For the money this is a great value. I wanted a full sized midi keyboard and this fills the role nicely. Its just for personal playing and use with a DAW on the PC. The semi-weighted keys feel good and its pressure sensitive. Easy to set up and use its a solid piece of equipment. Could you use it professionally? I'd say yes but if your actually playing gigs there are better (though moreexpensive) options. If you want/need a full sized midi keyboard this is about as good as it gets at this price range.

worked great in the beginning
The keyboard on arrival was in good condition and fit seamlessly into my studio. After constant use i started getting problems with my recordings, the tracks started changing pitch on its own during playback which wasn't noticed while laying them down. Eventually narrowed it down to the pitch bend wheel on the keyboard. Quick fix: i folded a piece of paper and wedged it between the space of the pitch bend that worked a little. disabling the pitch bend effect in the DAW was the most helpful. Wish someone had told me of that before purchasing.
