I have never, and I mean NEVER been able to sleep on planes. Traditional neck pillows always just left me with either a dropped head or a super sore neck or both. Bought this for a trip to Sicily from NYC (9 hour flights) and it was the best! Comfortable, easy to get on and set up and most importantly, I slept! Now did I sleep the whole flight? No, but I slept for two chunks of 3 hours which is 6 hours of sleep I would not have gotten otherwise. I read a bunch of reviews about it not being for people with short necks and I did not find that to be the case. I have a pretty short neck and it worked perfectly. Once it's on, you can "turn it" so your head doesn't droop forward. Absolute game changer and worth every penny!

this is pretty good. It holds your head up so that you can really sleep on the plane with the seat back all the way up. the only thing is that it starts getting uncomfortable and you have to wrap it around a few times before getting it right and ready to sleep. if you have long hair like I do, that is a bit of a hassle. but otherwise it does what I expected and was pleasantly surprised. it's not perfect but it's what I need for long flights.

I’ve used the Trtl neck pillow on multiple trips now, and it’s easily become one of my favorite travel essentials. I love that it packs down small, so it doesn’t take up much room in my backpack, but still provides great support. No matter what seat I’m in on the plane, it helps me get comfortable enough to actually sleep. The fabric is also incredibly soft, which makes it even easier to relax and fall asleep during long flights. It’s one of those travel items I never leave home without anymore.

I travel for work 10-12 weeks a year, about a quarter of which is international. Five-star reviews are rare for me. I reserve that rating for near perfect items. 4 stars IMO, is damn good. I have used the Trtl on at least 10 trips / 20+ flights. Travel - 4 stars (Very Good) The Trtl fits extremely well in any travel bag I'd imagine. I use a Timbuk2 Authority as my primary carry-on and the Trtl tucks in very nicely without taking up too much space. This makes it easy to stow your bag under the seat on planes, pillow included. Support - 3 Stars (Good) Support is where I started to have issues with the Trtl. This could be a result of my size and personal comfort preferences as well, so be advised. I am 5'9", 150lbs, and comfortably wear a 14.5 inch neck in dress shirts. I found that I had to wrap the Trtl fairly tight around my neck in order for the support to be effective. If I tried to loosen the wrap for more comfort, the brace would slide down my shoulder - which led me to have to try and "shrug" my shoulders to keep the brace pressed to my face. In this situation, the Trtl is neither supportive or comfortable. This may not be an issue for someone with broader shoulders or a thicker / more muscular build. For me, finding the sweet spot between feeling like I was in "traction" and "resting" on a pillow was difficult. Comfort - 2 Stars (Disappointing) FIRST ISSUE The struggles with support contribute to my rating for comfort. In achieving the "good" support, the Trtl became uncomfortable for me. Imagine pulling a turtle neck up high to the bottom of your ears and covering your chin. If you have no problem with that for however many hours you want to rest on the pillow - this shouldn't bother you. For me, this quickly led to me feeling hot / stuffy / and restricted. The material breathes well enough, but airplanes are stuffy and poorly vented in my experiences, which made using the Trtl feel like sleeping in bed with the covers pulled up over your face. SECOND ISSUE Using the Trtl while sitting tightly packed in economy wasn't fun. I'm a small guy, and the act of having to extend and wrap the Trtl around my neck, velcro it properly, and adjust it made me brush up against my fellow passengers. I found myself trying to couch over in my seat to put this on if I had people sitting next to me on a plane. No one next to you, no problem. Flying business or first class, no problem - though the pillows there are way better than the Trtl. Don't forget your own pillow case. THIRD ISSUE I like to wear wireless earbuds (Jabra Elite 65t). The Trtl interferes with the seating of the wireless earbud in my ear, either pressing it or tugging it out. This can happen with traditional travel pillows as well, but with those designs, you can push the pillow in slightly different positions to avoid this. I didn't have the same issue with over the ear headphones, but using them is not my preference. If you use Apple earbuds, this could be an issue. Overall - a good product, well built, and easy to travel with. Ultimately wasn't a good fit for me and my specific use case, but your mileage may vary. I hope this helps!

I wanted to love the Trtl Travel Pillow. really, I did. The promise of a scientifically engineered, ultra-supportive neck brace (sorry, “pillow”) that would finally allow me to sleep on a plane without waking up feeling like I lost a fight with the overhead bin was too good to pass up. Unfortunately, after several flights of dedicated testing, I can confidently say this: if you enjoy the sensation of being in a very mild, travel-sized guillotine, this is the product for you. The “Support” Dilemma The concept is clever. You wrap it around your neck, lean into the hidden support, and drift off into blissful, ergonomic slumber. The reality? The only way this thing provides any meaningful support is if you cinch it so tightly that you start questioning your blood flow situation. At optimal “support” level, I found myself teetering between “mildly uncomfortable” and “Is this what a giraffe feels like in a turtleneck?” If you loosen it even slightly, it becomes a $60 piece of fabric wrapped around your neck for no reason at all. And if you tighten it enough to actually hold your head up, congratulations! You now have a built-in pulse-checking device because your body will let you know very quickly when your carotid artery has had enough. In-Flight Performance My hope was to finally achieve that elusive, graceful plane nap. Instead, I spent most of my flight adjusting, readjusting, and questioning my life choices as my seat neighbor side-eyed my increasingly desperate attempts to make it work. The “lean and sleep” motion they advertise? More like “lean, start losing feeling in your jaw, panic, readjust, repeat.” The Verdict For those with an iron will, a tolerance for slight oxygen deprivation, and perhaps a slimmer neck than mine, this might work. For the rest of us? Save your money and go back to the classic awkward head-tilt-against-the-window method or invest in a real neck pillow. Or better yet, just accept that air travel is inherently uncomfortable and move on. I purchased this Trtl Neck Pillow to go with the Starkio footrest I purchased several months ago for my boss (who travels at least 3 days a week on flights that are a minimum of 2 hrs long) after a client recommended that he shoudl invest in a footrest hammock. The Starkio footrest has thick cushioning and is easy to install - it's greatly improved the comfort of his flights (especially when he flies Economy - he's not a large man by any means but the leg space is so cramped!). My boss has a bad back, so the long flights take a toll on him (plus he's on his feet for 5-8 hours once he lands and sometimes drives 1-2 hrs after landing if it's an overnight trip). The Starkio footrest has significantly improved how he feels and is able to move after his trips, but lately his schedule has forced him to take longer flights, often at night, which means he ends up sleeping on the flight...which means his neck gets sore. I found this Trtl Neck Pillow and suggested he give it a try since it is a decent price and we already got an excellent deal on the Starkio footrest. He has been on 3 trips where he's used the Neck Pillow in addition to the Footrest Hammock and we all have noticed a significant improvement to his mobility when he lands and his mood in general :) I asked him how the pillow is working and he said he really likes it and is glad we found two high quality items for good deals. He says it supports his head without feeling like he's in a neck brace and he's had no issues sleeping on the flights. I noticed several reviewers commented that it was too warm so I asked him specifically about that and he (a man who insists the office be at 68 degrees) had no issues with being overheated in it. My boss has already requested I purchase more for his assistants. The takeaway of this is: If you fly frequently or are about to embark on a long journey, buy the Trtl Neck Pillow and Starkio Footrest! They are high quality items at very affordable prices; simple to use; easy to pack (even if you are just taking a day trip, like my boss often does); have excellent cushioning and stability where you need it (for neck, feet, legs, and back); are easy to clean; and although I can only vouch that the Starkio Footrest has held up over months of regular use, the Trtl Neck Pillow seems like it will hold up over time too.

I bought this because I have multiple long flights in the upcoming months but I was skeptical based on mixed reviews. It really seems like people are all in and love it or they hate it, and perhaps it has to do with your specific neck/shoulder measurements. (I am a 5’4” female, 195lb if that helps). I just used this on a short 2 hour morning flight to test it out, under the belief I could always return it. (You do have to keep the tag attached to return it!). I love it and am going to keep it! The carrying bag it comes in clips to your luggage nicely. Bag is sturdy. However it is a very sturdy Velcro closure which I recommend opening before the plane goes silent! I felt bad making so much noise ripping it open. I had no issues putting it on and didn’t need to take up much space around me to do so, as other complaints mention. It was on the warm side but the plane was cool and I enjoyed it. I wore an N95 under it and wrapped this over my mask. It did bunch my mask around a bit but it wasn’t bad. Once I was in, I left it on the whole flight even when I was just scrolling through my phone. I found it quite comfortable to just exist in, though it’s a little harder to crane your neck around. I stayed facing fully forward the whole time and was worried that I couldn’t easily reach into my backpack under the seat without adjusting the turtl. The product itself provides nice support. Better than any foam type travel pillow I’ve ever used. After 2 hours of leaning on it, I have absolutely no neck pain! I love that it’s easily washable too as I find planes so filthy. I look forward to using this on longer flights!

2 stars because of the price. But other than that I can truly say I have never ever been able to sleep on a plane until I swallowed the ridiculous price and tried it: it worked 100% for me. For the first time ever (in 35yrs!!) I slept for about 3 hours on my transatlantic flight home and I also did not have the usual terrible neck cramp so this greatly reduced my jet lag! It is very adjustable (although takes some time to master), soft and worked well for me. Is it worth the price though? I think it's hugely overpriced for what it is: a shawl with plastic and some Velcro. I know there are some "alternatives" and I might just try one just to compare. Anyway: your mileage might vary!
