Perfect upgrade for Home Defense Shotgun, Easy installation and Great Results - Mossberg 500
I decided to do some upgrades to my trusty old Mossberg 500 and one thing that always has been a struggle was finding a solid sight system for it. First I had an ATI heat shield with integrated ghost ring sights but they were made from polymer and mounted too far forward, kind of cheesy honestly. Then I attempted to modify a set of Tru Glos to work on this shotgun but sighting was impossible. So, this time around I was strongly considering the XS sighting systems Ghost ring rail with banded front night sight, which I would have loved to have but the $150 price tag had me on the fence for a 20 year old shotgun. But then it dawned on me, what good is a ghost ring paired with a night sight ? In a dark environment where your night sight would be imperative the black steel ghost ring would not be visible and possibly obscure your view of the front sight. So my best option I this case seemed to be this product. The price is right, installation was pretty straight forward and only took about 20 minutes not counting epoxy dry time and the result is excellent. The white big dot surrounding the tritium vial is very bright and easy to pick up and even as far away as the end of the barrel is the night sight is clearly visible in a dark room. A word of advice when installing , dry fit the sight and tape off around the perimeter. Use that as a grid to abrade the barrel finish only in the area needed, wipe thoroughly with alcohol before applying the epoxy, and the tip from another reviewer of using a zip tie to secure overnight was perfect. You Will Need to Purchase Epoxy for Installation, I ordered JB Weld along with the sight for another $4, worked great. I cant say 100% because I have only just installed it but as it stands now the sight is a great buy.

Accept Nothing Less
After considering some kind of sighting improvement for my home defense Mossberg 590A1 I settled on the XS Big Dot sight. I've had this sight installed for a few months now, but have been waiting to write a review until after I got to put it through its paces at least a little bit. I have tried plain beads and an RMR before, but this is my favorite setup. It is the best of both worlds: the speed and simplicity of a bead with the easy visibility and low light capability of the red dot (at a fraction of the price). It has survived the normal bumps and scrapes as well as a full day tactical shotgun course. The small white lettering on the sight is all gone now, but the sight itself remains otherwise unscathed. Install was simple. When replacing your bead make sure the new bead fits properly in your barrel before installing it with a thread locker. As one reviewer pointed out, be sure to remove finish from bottom of sight and portion of barrel sight will affix to and make sure it is all clean and dry and free of any grease to help ensure a good metal-on-metal bond.

looks good, important installation notes
I have not been to the range with it yet but it looks and feels right. There were no installation instructions in the package. Just what I could find on the Internet. Installation was a bit tough in two ways. Mine is an old Mossberg 500 with a too small bead. I had to swap my bead for the one in the kit and that was scary. It was hard to get started and I was afraid I would drop the little thing. You need to put it in twice; once to test it and again to Loctite it. I came up with a solution using the insulation off a 10 gauge wire. The picture is my old sight but it worked with the new larger bead too. Stuff the bead in the insulation and use it like a nut driver. The next problem is tightening the bead. The old one had a hex patterned base and came off with a socket. The base on the new one is round. I pondered this then remembered a comment that the bead should be scuffed to give the epoxy a better hold. Also the bead will be covered with the XS sight. So I gripped the bead with some pliers and tightened it. Very carefully so the pliers wouldn't slip and scratch the barrel. Later when putting the XS sight on the small bit of excess JB weld cleaned of the barrel with alcohol.

Love this sight
I was a bit unsure when I ordered this sight, but after watching videos on youtube on how to install it, I could do a good job mounting it. I removed the factory bead and replaced it with the provided one in the XS Sight package. The only drawback is that it didn't come with the adhesive needed to bond it to the barrel. The sight itself is glued on and not screwed in. I bought J-B Weld 5,000 PSI to cement the sight. After properly affixing it, I used a small clamp to keep it in place while it dried up. After 12 hrs, it was perfectly attached. The product is well-built and sits perfectly well on my shotgun. It looks and feels like it came factory installed. The sight provides a clear and bright view in all lighting conditions. This shotgun sight, is one of the best options out there.

Works!
Works just as it should, good daylight visibility and good glow from the tritium. You need to know what tritium is supposed to look like and understand the entire large dot doesn’t glow just a smaller center dot. I installed it on a Mossberg 590S with a factory bead sight. The XS sight won’t fit on the factory sight but a replacement bead sight is supplied that’s specifically for the XS. I test fit the sight on the new bead and taped around it very tightly then removed the sight and scuffed the area under the sight with a red scotch pad. Then used JB Weld (MIX THOROUGHLY) and used a tooth pick to make sure the hole the bead goes in is completely coated with epoxy. I clamped with a simple wood clamp with rubber feet (light pressure is all that’s needed) and cleaned up the excess JB with rubbing alcohol. Cleanliness is 100% critical installing this sight. Thoroughly clean the area EVERY STEP with rubbing alcohol for good results

Love it.
This is thew best shot gun sight out there for a beaded replacement. I have used fiber optic, and standard bead. I have also used ghost rings but I'm not a huge fan of those on a shotgun. So good I bought a 2nd one for another shotgun. I love that it comes with the bead to replace. After installing it I took it thought a shotgun class almost 700 rounds in 2 days and it held up great. Very easy to acquire. I was able to make slug hits out to 100 yards with it on a smooth bore shotgun. I will say, indoors its a little hard to see the white ring or the tritium under certain conditions, like if its dimly lit, but not bright enough for the tritium to stand out. At this point to looks like a black post which is fine to use. But if you have a light on the shotgun it stands out as soon as you add light.

Awesome front sight!
I ordered this for my Mossberg 500 Persuader 20", and I have to say I love it. I'm not as in love with the price, but you get what you pay for. Quality doesn't come cheap. I installed it using JB weld, the 24 hour set 2 part epoxy. Easy installation. pro tip: plan it out in advance, and take your time. The sight is large and in charge!! Easy to find quickly when shouldering the blunderbuss. Get one. I might get one for my other barrel. 🥰

A must for defence shotguns
Extremely well made. Easy installation. There is a great youtube tutorial. Glows bright. Easy target acquisition. It raises the sight over a heat shield as well. I have one on two of my 590s. Its a must for any home defence or wildlife defence shotgun.
