A chance that paid off
I don't write a lot of reviews, but I know that when I bought this item I felt like I was taking a chance, because it didn't have any reviews. It just arrived today, and I'd like to share my impressions with anybody else looking at these.I'm far from an expert...I'm just getting started with VR apps. I decided not to mess with the cardboard sets because I wanted something sturdier, and I also like to play with AVS apps (Mindroid, Psychowalkman) and I wanted to be able to use them hands-free. A unit like this isn't really that much more expensive than a lot of the cardboard ones, as well. And no assembly required! Well, you do have to install the magnetic switch on the side, but that really doesn't count. The instructions call it installing, but I think that's too strong a word. The magnet comes with adhesive already applied. You remove the protective paper, and stick the magnet inside the grooved area on the headset. It really doesn't get much simpler.I debated between several similar products before buying this one. As soon as I saw "Compatible with myopia crowd" in their product pictures, I was sold. It made me laugh, and I do wear glasses. Big glasses--I've only ever found one pair of those "fits over your glasses" sunglasses that actually fit over mine. But this headset, I'm pleased to report, fits just fine. If they were any bigger, it wouldn't...but I'm not sure I've ever seen glasses wider than these. They're kind of a browline/catseye cross, and they are wide. The cutouts in the foam are in just the right place.I didn't have to adjust the lenses in the headset at all. As soon as I put it to my face, I saw a beautiful 3D picture, nice and clear. It's nice to know that I could adjust it, but even nicer not to have to :) The suction cups inside hold my phone very securely, but are easy to take it loose from when I'm done. The unit has soft foam on both sides to allow cords to run out. So you can use headphones, charge while you're watching, or anything else you might need cords for. The straps to hold this on your head are adjustable, and about as comfortable as can be expected. The thing does have a bit of weight, so you wouldn't want to wear it all day or anything. For an AVS session, or a 3D game, it's been perfect. I haven't tried any movies yet. I've worn it lying on my back, and it's still comfortable. The construction feels solid. I'm getting ready to upgrade to a bigger phone, and it looks like it should fit in here too.I definitely would recommend this. Especially if you wear glasses and don't want anything pushing on them while you're watching. If you like to use programs like Mindroid, this lets you go hands-free, and makes a cheap (if somewhat bulky) alternative to fancy glasses. I'm very glad I chose this over the others I considered.

A great headset for the price
Just to calibrate everyone's expectations -- this (and any form of Google Cardboard) is not VR. You will not be fully immersed in any scene and your entire field of view will not be in 3D.Think of this as the 21st century's version of the ViewMaster. Remember as a kid the first time you looked through a ViewMaster and the 3D images blew your mind? You'll relive that experience with this 3D headset. How good is the experience? Good enough that it gave me motion sickness -- a feeling I've never had before, whether on rough seas, a roller coaster, or playing first person shooter games. The hardware itself "assembles" in seconds, looks a lot classier than cardboard, and is remarkably comfortable. It fits easily over reading glasses (important for a 48 year old who needs them to look at his iPhone most of the time), though it feels more comfortable without glasses. For the price, this thing is pretty amazing and an inexpensive way to dip your toe into the world of VR.Ultimately, how much you use this will be contingent on how much content is developed for Google Cardboard. Right now, it's kind of like when HDTV first came out -- you'll be briefly wowed by the "demo"-type content that's out and you'll have fun showing it off to friends and family while you wait for more robust content. Until then, it's still worth every penny I paid for it.

Unacceptable blurry view
So these goggles feel about the right quality for their price. Actually they were comfortable and I'm sure the construction would be fine for my type of usage. The lenses move side to side (L-R) but not forward and backwards. I could not get a clear picture. The picture in focus required the phone to move back from the lenses about 1 inch. This worked as the door holding the phone kept falling off. They have the magnet but didn't get to try the functionality as they basically went straight back into the box and were returned. They were missing a hinge pin, so the housing holding the phone just kept falling apart (the door kept coming off). There was a glue streak across one of the lenses, you can see this in the attached photo. No its not a hair, its glue. With the price, I got what I expected. My opinion and recommendation, if you want the right effect or something to meet your expectations, get a more expensive set of goggles. These cheap ones just won't measure up.

The QR code
This will be my third edit for this headset. I finally got it to work correctly! The headset here does not come with a QR configuration code, but the headset matches Ritech Riem 2, and I can confirm that, after trying every manual setting under the sun, I just tonight found a QR code that makes this headset work perfectly! Search for Ritech Riem 2 QR code.As far as the headset works - it does the job pretty well. There are directions on lining up the lenses based on your screen size, which is more of an estimate, you will have to fine tune it. For what I paid, definitely worth it.

Poor for those with age-related Presbyopia
I was unable to focus these because there is no way to adjust the distance from the screen to the eye. They are fine with regard to moving the lenses laterally to accommodate different inter ocular distances (distance between the two eyes). But for those with age related presbyopia like myself, these are no go. Probably designed by someone well under 40 years old or they would have noticed. Even wearing my glasses did not help. None of my friends, all over 60, were able to focus them at a dinner I attended. If this is not a problem for you, then they are well built for the price, the lenses are clear and the device fits the head with the necessary adjustments. You will like it.
