NOT as Advertised, but CLOSE
I purchased a Fox Tactical/Fox Outdoors Map Case from a local brick & mortar several months ago. I loved the bag. It was a good size, wasn't feminine, was a good value, was solidly constructed, and was overall just plain useful. My original Fox map case was used mostly for my camera equipment (bridge DSLR, long lens, odds and ends) when camping or going to a park/zoo, or served as my everyday "E" bag (tablet, chargers, notebook, and a couple other odds and ends). I finally got tired of swapping out the camera and tablet items so I tried to hunt down another Fox Tactical/Fox Outdoors bag. The local brick and mortar didn't have another, so I ended up here. The bag I received was NOT the Fox bag as indicated at the top of the page, but the Rothco version (sold by Army Universe--I won't be shopping through them again) of the Map Case. This feels very much like a "bait and switch" as there ARE other options to purchase the Rothco case. It makes me mad but the hassle of a return (and further time without a bag) just isn't worth it.Overall, a quick glance at both cases won't reveal much difference between the Fox and the Rothco cases. The colors, sizes, and actual hardware layout are virtually identical. Once you start poking and prodding, though, some differences come out. The quality of the Rothco map case is, in my opinion, a noticeable drop from the Fox map case. The drop isn't a large drop, but it's there. My Fox bag feels like is made from a slightly thicker, sturdier canvas and the divider between the front and rear pockets is made of the same material as the rest of the case. The Rothco bag is made from what feels like a softer, thinner canvas and the divider is a completely different (lighter) type of fabric than the exterior. There appear to be a few extra "quirks"/blemishes to the exterior of the Rothco bag as well, but nothing to make me worry about the strength of the case. Both models seem to be using the same hardware (snaps, D-rings, clips), or near enough so, and the shoulder straps also appear to be close enough to make no practical difference. Both shoulder straps are can be lengthened enough so that even a "big" guy like me can wear it across my chest and have the case fall about hip level. The Rothco case was packaged folded/collapsed in a clear plastic bag, and that seems to have given the weather flaps an odd crease. I'm pretty sure that will ease with time, wear, and exposure to weather. Both bags seem to be quite sturdy and more than capable of handling the tasks that I will put them through. Since I have more confidence in the Fox bag, it will serve as my camera/hiking bag while the Rothco will get the "easier" life of hauling my tablet and other items on a daily basis. The Rothco case certainly appears to be solid, just not quite as solid as the Fox case.A rating for an actual Fox Tactical/Fox Outdoors Map Case would be a respectable **** (four stars).A rating for the Rothco Map Case would be a ** (two stars). It's not what I ordered, and isn't holding up nearly as well as the Fox product. This section edited on May 1, 2014.After six months' use, the Rothco bag has started to show serious wear. The exterior is still sound, but the dividing cloth can not hold up against my supply of electronics (Nexus 7, dock, chargers, portable keyboard, and a couple other small mundane items). I won't buy Rothco products or anything sold by Army Universe again.

This is the bag I have used for 6+ years, the size is perfect
I love this bag, seriously. Vintage styling, heavy canvas, snaps shut nicely even when overburdened. Ex military will notice this and compliment it. I used it with my netbook for a long time and now have a surface pro, fits excellent. It is surprising how much can be crammed in this little bad boy.Oh but the strap is junk, I got a very nice padded strap from a messenger bag and it was the best decision. My previous bag was this exact one but in beige, it eventually started falling apart from heavy use, but that is a good 3 years of everyday use.

Great utility bag
The material is tough, it has a nice internal frame that keeps it well shaped and the buttons are firm. The only thing that can get tiresome is the strap which can sometimes be too thin and dig into your shoulder or even neck. I changed mine at a shoemaker's place and I haven't had any troubles with it ever since.
