Beautiful shimmer and a great price for under only $4!
These watercolors definitely leave a beautiful sheen/shimmer to your watercolor piantings. I like to use them just as highlights. They dry nicely, with a lot of shine to them. Perfect, just what I was hoping for! A little will go a long way. Especially if you use like me, just for highlighting certain parts of the paintings. I have not done a whole painting using only these colors, I think that would be TOO much. These little color bricks/blocks/whatever you call them, are thin, there is probably not as much in each well as you might imagine. But like I said, a little goes a long way! Especially after it dries, you will see that what you thought was NOT nearly enough paint, will certainly dry to a spectacular shimmery shine that you wanted. One thing to note is that although there was a slot for it at the front of the case when you open it, there is NOT a brush that comes with this set. You'll have to use your own brush. I make sure to use a small thin tipped one, and only wet the brick a little bit. Clean the brush between each color! These colors are just too darn pretty to get them all messed and mixed up with other colors. Take care of them, and this beautiful set of colors will last you for quite a long time. I gave it 5 stars-- the price was just amazing.

Nice pearlized paints
I bought the set to use as accents on coloring book pages. There is a nice assortment of colors. The white works good layered over other paint to add sparkle and sheen. The paints take a bit to soften enough to work well, but if you put a drop of water on the color a few minutes before you need it, the paint is soft enough to get a good amount on your brush. Once dry they have a nice pearled sheen and they do dry a little darker than when they are wet. The only part that disappointed me was the amount of paint in each of the little cups. It's practically paper thin. But for what I'm going to use it for, it will be plenty for a long time.

This set has so many colors of metallic/pearlescent paint for the price!
I have been an artist for years but I only came to watercolor in the last year. Metallic paints and inks make me happy so I had to order this set because it has so many colors of metallic/pearlescent paint. I have discovered that the best way to use this paint is to use it in conjunction with traditional watercolors. These do not blend very well. But if you use them as a top layer on the regular watercolor the effect is beautiful. These pans do not have much paint in each pan, but the good news is it does not take much paint to get a beautiful effect, so this palette will last you longer than you think it will. Be sure to clean your brush each time you go to a different color so that you do not contaminate the paint pan! For the price this paint is excellent! I will buy it again when i use all mine up!

Best for Crafting Rather Than Fine Art
I have to say I wasn't terribly impressed with these watercolors even considering their low price. There is pathetically little paint so I can't imagine doing any art work, with them, that isn't just a little accent such as pearl earrings. It isn't all bad, however. The set comes in a nice case that looks like it would be fairly sturdy and it even has space for a small brush which you have to buy yourself. The colors are very pretty and there is a good variety of colors in both warm and cool tones.Unfortunately, the lack of paint severely limits the use of the set and getting the color out of the pods is hard on brushes even when you spray water on the set a few minutes before using it. When I made my swatch chart I thought I had totally ruined my brush trying to get enough paint out for it to show up on the paper. The colors, on my swatch chart, were very faint and most didn't really reflect their pearlescent effect unless the paper was tilted even though I used a barely-wet brush. The colors were so translucent (normally a good thing) that I tried and second and third coat on some of the colors but that didn't improve the density of the colors.I didn't try layering the paints on regular watercolors as the effect would be different for each brand and grade of watercolor used for the base layer. Buyers will just have to do that test for themselves.I doubt that these paints are fade resistant in sunlight so it is best to use them on works that won't be exposed to sunlight. If you do plan to use them on works you sell then you should test the color fastness of the colors you want to use by leaving a test strip out in the sun for 3 or 4 hours and then checking the test strip against your swatch chart. That said, I think these paints would be nice for crafts and accenting works of art assuming the colors used don't drastically fade in the sunlight. The sad truth is that there aren't many good metallic or pearlescent watercolors available so it is well worthwhile purchasing this set to see if it works for your projects. As an add-on item, the price for the whole set is about that of one small tube of good watercolor. And even if the colors don't always reflect their pearlescent nature they are pretty enough to be useful in things like journaling, stamping, and other crafts where their sheen would be more noticeable. In summary, if money is tight this isn't a good choice for a watercolor set. Even though the colors are very pretty, there is precious little paint. There is a Prang set of basic colors which has far more paint. But if you are used to buying materials, for arts and crafts, then the price of this set is reasonable enough to buy it and experiment with it to see how it can accent your work.

A-MA-ZING! (As top wash!!!!!)
WORHT IT! Wasn’t sure about this set, read some bad reviews but tried it anyway. As a WASH over the top of a paint these are gorgeous! Really beautiful. Fairly translucent, on their own you won’t get good results (except the coppers and gold tones) and there is not a lot in each pan, so if you are looking to use as an opaque paint, you should look for something else. HOWEVER....use them over them over the top of your work and they are stunning! I will buy another set just to have on hand as the price is so worth it.

A Huge Hit!
I've just returned to water color painting, after quite an absence. Started with a very small metallic set, but wanted way more colors, so made this purchase. When my 8 y.o. granddaughter saw this, she went bananas, as the saying goes. I've chosen to paint with these, as though creating a stained glass window. For example: Using a black permanent Sharpie of the chosen width, I line-draw a butterfly, allowing it to thoroughly dry. (Made 2 of these drawings, by finding a page in a coloring book my granddaughter chose.) Then using 2 pointed brushes, one small and one nearly medium, wet the desired paint palette with a bit of water, adding more, but not too much. I found that dousing the paint palette resulted in a fluid, with little pigment, whereas I prefer not to paint in really light pastels, when creating a butterfly. In any case, this first layer can be added to with the same color, or an overlay of another over part of it, which I found most effective and beautiful in butterfly wings. This number of colors available is such a great selection, after having worked with my Japanese set for a while. Though it was awesome, I yearned for more colors and this set certainly delivered. We made awesome butterflies!

Minimal amount of product
Pans hold very little colors…this is why they are so cheap. Colors arrived cracked in pieces.

and although it looks like you get a lot of paint in each pan ...
I purchased these from Amazon, I have ordered from BIC warehouse in the past and waited weeks for the delivery.Amazon delivered the item four days from my ordering, along with additional items I had ordered, the packaging was secure and did not involve endless reams of brown paper, but packed with bubble bags.I was first introduced to metallic watercolour paint when I purchased the Kuritake Gansai watercolours, also through Amazon. At first I doubted whether I would use these and had the paints for some time before I tried the metallics out. I found that adding a small amount to greeting cards which I had painted worked really well, but the metallics of which there are 4 were white, silver, bronze and gold and I wanted some colours. The Yasutomo Pearlesecent watercolour paints shown in the Amazon picture and the description given not only covered the colours i wanted but has also proven to be accurate. The paint box itself is very light in weight, the pans are not removable, and although it looks like you get a lot of paint in each pan which is about the size of a 2 pence coin, as other reviewers have pointed out it is probably just a thin layer of paint, but what you have got to bear in mind it is unlikely you are going to use these paints on a whole picture, but use as an enhancer along with your normal watercolour paints.I tested these out by first making a colour chart, and before starting I lightly sprayed the paints, I found that they mixed really well, and were of a creamy texture. The colours are true to those shown in the pans, and also mix well to make additional colours, so 21 colours will become many more.A great buy and I would highly recommend them if like me you enjoy using other mediums in your work.

Winsor & Newton Artist Series (Vermerk A)Preisvermerk ab 4,33 EuroAll inclusive 98 Farben 424 Euro24 halbe Näpfchen 196 Euro40 Näpfchen Setpreis 71 EuroWinsor & Newton Cotman40 Tuben a 21ml 214 Euro48 halbe Näpfchen Setpreis 50 EuroSennelier Studio24 halbe Näpfchen Setpreis 33 Euro40 Tuben 57 EuroSennelier Artist Series (Vermerk A)Preisvermerk ab 4,43 Euro24 Tuben a 21ml 106 Euro24 halbe Näpfchen 106 Euro48 halbe Näpfchen 226 EuroVan GoghPreisvermerk ab 2,69 / 1,5924 halbe Näpfchen Setpreis 35 Euro40 Tuben a 10 ml 107 Euro40 halbe Näpfchen 60 EuroSchmincke AkademiePreisvermerk ab 3,5924 halbe Näpfchen 80 EuroSchmincke Horadam - Artist Series (Vermerk A)Preisvermerk ab 4,30 Euro24 halbe Näpfchen 105 Euro48 halbe Näpfchen 196 Euro24 Tuben a 5ml 167 EuroWhite Nights - Artist Series (Vermerk A)Preisvermerk ab 1,99 Euro48 ganze Näpfchen im Holzkasten 96 Euro24 ganze Näpfchen Setpreis 38 Euro48 ganze Näpfchen einzeln 100 EuroOld Holland (Vermerk A)Preisvermerk ab 4,28 Euro159 insgesamte Töne 680 Euro24 halbe Näpfchen 102 Euro159 Tuben a 6ml 680 Euro24 Tuben a 6ml 102 EuroDaniel Smith (Vermerk A)Preisvermerk ab 8,33 Euro246 insgesamte Töne 2.103 Euro24 Tuben a 5ml 199 EuroLukas Artist (Vermerk A)Preisvermerk ab 3 Euro24 halbe Näpfchen 72 Euro24 halbe Näpfchen Setpreis 144 Euro24 Tuben a 24ml 72 EuroLukas Studio:12 halbe Näpfchen 12 EuroHolbein Watercolor30 Tuben a 6ml 62 Euro18 Tuben a 6ml 38 EuroHolbein Artist Series (Vermerk A)Preisvermerk pro Tube ca 5-10 Euro24 Tuben a 6ml 120 EuroShinhan Artist Series (Vermerk A)30 Tuben a 7,5ml 50 Euro48 Tuben a 20ml 179 Euro
