It's not often I'm impressed by a product, but I am impressed by this one. Recently installed a small wood stove where three sides are glass so you can really see the fire. I knew when I bought it that I would have to contend with the glass getting smoked over. I've been using the ashes plus a little water to make a paste, and it's been working pretty well, but kinda messy and took some scrubbing, but I thought I'd give this product a try. Just used it for the first time, as directed small a amount (dime size) on a damp paper towel. Rub vigorously. Almost immediately took smoke off, a little more rubbing creosote came right off. Immediately wipe with dry paper towel. Done. Glass seems clearer than when using ash paste, and much less messy. For three roughly 12"x12" glass panels used maybe a tablespoon of product at the most, probably less. I was hesitant to buy it because the ashes were free of course, but very glad I purchased it. The product supposedly leaves a silicon coating, preventing the smoke and creosote from adhering as tightly, making future cleanings even easier. Will have to see how it goes, but even if that part doesn't happen I'm very satisfied with this product, highly recommended. Update: been using about a month now. I use a little more than a dime sized amount for each piece of glass. As advertised, it gets easier each time you use it. A use a damp (not wet) paper towel and smoke a creosote comes right off, then follow-up with a dry paper towel. I've cleaned the stove several times over the last month and I've used about half the container

My wood stove's (Pacific Energy Spectrum) glass was abused for a decade (as far as I know) as the window to a trash incinerator. According to my neighbors, the previous owner of the house only ever used it to burn trash. When we moved in, it was full of junk mail and had ash halfway up the walls of the unit. Before them, the house was owned by an elderly person who probably didn't do much with it. Suffice it to say, the glass was coated with chemical residue- thick black tar from the inks and plastic stuff included with junk mail. Enter Rutland Hearth and Grill Conditioning Glass Cleaner. I followed the directions to a T, and at first it only seemed to work on the most recent and lightest layer of residue. I cleaned it about five times over the course of two days. It helped, but didn't magically remove it. I was dismayed and my original review was only three stars. I kept at it. About once or twice a month, I'd let the stove grow cold and work on it. I started using more than recommended and realized every time I made more progress. Every time I got closer to clear glass. The combination of cleaning and burning started to chip away at the hard stuff. Finally after a whole season, I had sparkling clean glass. I really only have to clean it once or twice a season now- once you get a protective layer of this stuff on clean glass, it prevents residue from sticking. I only burn clean, seasoned wood now and this stuff removes wood smoke residue like it's nothing if you follow the directions. With a bit of elbow grease and patience, it will remove 10 years' worth of trash residue! Once I realized the gross residue this stuff overcame wasn't your run-of-the-mill problem and had 10 years to harden over layer after layer, it became "clear" how awesome it really is and I rewrote and bumped this up to five stars. This stuff isn't as harsh to breathe as other options and actually smells quite pleasant. So, if your glass is really dirty and this stuff doesn't magically fix it in one go, just keep at it. Once you get a protective layer down, you'll be "stoked"! If you check my pic, you'll see a little bit of residue in the lower corners- the glass "airwash" system is a little cracked on the sides so air doesn't flow well there to keep the glass clean. Still, that's after five months of 24/7 burning dirty softwoods like shore pine and hemlock (all that's available here), including smoldering big "all-nighter" logs so you don't have to start a cold stove in the morning! If my stove was new, I don't doubt it'd be pristine thanks to this stuff!

Jeez, wish I had gotten this sooner. For the last 5 years I've been cleaning the glass window on my pellet stove through a ridiculous time consuming and messy process. This is practically mess free and cleans the soot with almosy single wipe. It also does make it very easy to give future cleanings with. With how little of the product you need to sue for each cleansing I suspect a bottle will last 3 or 4 winters. Better late than never using it.

I purchased this glass cleaner for my fireplace glass door. The firewood I'm using is not dry enough meaning creosote forming on the glass door. The Rutland glass cleaner definitely works. Prior to my purchase I used to clean the glass door everyday with a piece of damp kitchen towel; it's a hard work. Once I received the glass cleaner I tried it on the door which was dirty from two days of creosote. It sounds like nothing, but creosote it's not dust, it's a hard shell similar to melted and then hardened plastic attached to the surface. It was amazing! The first cleaning is the more challenging, although definitely easier than that with a damp towel. You can feel the tiny particles scrubbing the dirt and then the cream leaving a smooth surface. I just followed the instructions in detail, not difficult at all. Once you have cleaned the surface for the first time, the following times it's much easier as someone else said in a review. From the second time it's a breeze, you don't need to scrub hard, just like the ads for dish detergent, one pass makes the job. It's like a miracle! A few days ago I didn't noticed that a firewood stick had remained pressed against the door for some time while using the fireplace and it left a huge dark stain of creosote. After one scrub you could see the difference. Five minutes later everything was impeccable. The glass door always looks like new after cleaning it with Rutland. It changed my life, really! Before that, it was frustrating. Highly recommended!

I have purchased this product from hardware stores and the bottle was much larger than this one. Very small bottle for the price.

I am a one-year log stove owner, and have tried everything for cleaning the glass front of my stove (yes, even the 'spit and newspaper dipped in ashes'). This is the ONLY cleaner, and it not only cleans the glass but leaves a protective film. Expensive to obtain, but well worth it.

Juste un mot : MAGIQUE. Depuis plusieurs mois, la vitre de la fenêtre de ma cheminée à la maison était complètement brouillée, presque devenue noire. Nous avons tout essayé, mais rien ne fonctionnait. J’ai finalement acheté ce produit et, en 10 secondes, la vitre était propre. Dès que le produit touche la vitre, la saleté disparaît instantanément. Vraiment impressionnant !
