I beat the old one out by whacking it with a sledgehammer. I would not say it was easy but it's no more difficult than any other tube would be to install. The right tools would be a must especially for someone who hasn't done it before. I have a bit of experience assembling chairs (unfortunately!) and so I knew how to get the tube out hitting in the correct spots. For the bottom part of the tube that connects to the legs/casters I turned the chair sideways so the floor was supporting the chair and the legs and then I beat the bottom of the tube out of the legs with a small metal mallet/sledgehammer. After removing the legs, I needed to get the chair off the top of the tube. For the top of the tube I slightly damaged the paint under my chair whacking the metal all around the chair near the top of the tube to try to pop the chair off the tube. I did not whack the tube, only around it with firm strokes parallel to the tube, hitting the base of the chair near the tube's connection, carefully tapping it out. Or actually not very carfully- you do have to whack it good. While whacking I had a good grip on the base of the tube pulling it away from the chair as I whacked the chair. The you put the new tube in the base, carefully align the seat to the top of the tube and set it straight down. Carefully knee it in the middle to make sure it's snug and centered and solid then put some weight on it by sitting. Bounce a bit to get it good and snug. Done. After I got the new tube on, and with the chair upright, you can't see the paint marks that I made, so it's fine for me. Also, like some others, I have trouble getting the thing to activate up and down. Make sure you fully compress the chair seat onto the top of the tube. Bounce your butt square in the middle to get it good and snug. Wiggle and bounce. Then try to activate it, maybe bounce a bit while trying to activate it. I noticed the knobby on the top of this tube is a bit smaller than the knobby on the tube that came with my chair. That's probably why it's difficult to activate. Anyway, once I got it activated and the chair lifted up and I could swing my feet I felt like I was in heaven. I'm 6'2 and I probably am on the longer side of average when it comes to my legs... In other words I have long legs, not short legs. This is important because some tall guys have a longer torso and shorter legs - not drastic enough to notice but definitely enough to matter when it comes to your chair height. Point is that this tube should be fine for most 6'2" guys. However I will say it's just barely enough. I also have 4" wheels on my chair too, so that might be something you need to look into. Seems like a high quality product. Just installed today. We'll see! I am 6' 5" tall and just under 300 pounds! This thing raises higher than the blown out cylinder which is a plus. It also accommodates my weight so there is no worry there. I would recommend this item over the competition that comes with gloves and a couple rings (plastic and can break, read others reviews!) that help you pull apart. For the same cost, get this item, a small can of WD 40, and a 14" pipe wrench (that won't break and you can use for something else) all for the same cost or less that the combo thingy. Lube the old cylinder that typically sticks under the seat, with the WD 40, then afterwards, use pipe wrench and viola!. Chair is repaired and you got WD 40 and a pipe wrench. Update: it’s now 3 years later and the thrill is gone. Chair sinks ever so slowly you don’t realize how much until I’ve gotten up and came back to realize the lowered position. About to reorder this one or another brand. Good that I have WD40 and pipe wrench available. 6 May 2024: My new cyclinder came in yesterday and it is the exact one I originally ordered. I was actually pleased with the maker, even though it only lasted 3 years. $20-$25 dollars to get three years is worth it to me. Again, I have all the tools mentioned before and the removal and install processes were the same. I sitting pretty again. Also at the start I am 6'5" and was 280lbs. Same height but now 245 lbs so I should get an extra year (?) We will see.

Finally - a chair lift that goes tall enough! I'm 6'1" and about 275 lbs. The original lift on the chair (chair from a big box office store years ago) and one subsequent replacement didn't go high enough. I've been left sitting with legs crossed under the table for years. :( Table is high enough, chair isn't. Well this one will even go *higher than the table*! It says 1" more than usual (6 vs 5 inches), but due to the mount (vs the old lift cylinder) I'm getting closer to 2". Love it!! This one can still go down lower, too, as usual. Haha BUT to get the old lift cylinder out of the chair, it may not be pretty, and here are some tips. FIRST - ESSENTIAL: flip the chair over and spray around 360 degrees where the cylinder goes in (on both ends) with *penetrating oil*, like "PB Blaster" (which rocks BTW - WD40 is NOT penetrating oil - everyone should have a can of PB Blaster on hand), tap the joint to set up vibrations, then let it sit 30 minutes to penetrate. THEN, do it at least one more time. Spray, tap, wait. THEN for the bottom, where the cyclinder goes into the wheels, most effective to whack the bottom of the cylinder with a large rubber mallet. If the bottom of your existing doesn't extend past the bottom of the wheel assembly, try using the mallet on the wheel assembly, or use a large wood dowel to tap on the metal *edge* of the cylinder (not the middle, where the clip is). Also try spraying one more time and letting it sit overnight. Then for the top, where the hydraulic rod goes into the chair, it can be more of a battle if rusted on, as was my case. Use a BIG pipe wrench on the hydraulic rod (which will ruin it by leaving wrench marks on the smooth rod surface, so you need to decide up front that chair is a loss anyway, due to the dead cylinder, so if you can't get the old cylinder out you are replacing the chair anyway. Whack the pipe wrench handle HARD with the mallet, or even a metal "engineers hammer" (mini sledge). In my case that broke the end of the old hydraulic rod loose from the rust after the 3rd hit and out it came. Note that hitting the body of the hydaulic cyclinder to try getting the hydraulic rod out of the chair is likely a really bad idea. Likely pressurized with a big spring in there - don't do it, imho. Wipe the penetrating oil off the holes in the wheel assemply and chair. Even better, use some soapy water on a towel to clean the oil off and dry it. Then drop your new hydraulic cylinder in and away it goes!

I had read many tips and watched many videos on removing the old gas cylinder and thought I was ready with my secret weapon...my 18 inch pipe wrench. Sadly it did not work in twisting out the cylinder. Had to remove bottom mechanism of chair to access the end of the cylinder to try to drive it out of the chair bottom apparatus. With a 5lb sledge and a huge screwdriver I attempted to drive the cylinder out with extreme force. Well I got my screwdriver wedged into the middle of the cylinder and it would not come out. Drove upwards on the screwdriver handle to get it out and promptly broke my handle off. Fixed later with gorilla glue so no worries. So anyway banged, grunted, and silently cursed until I remembered another trick I had not seen mentioned and that was a MAPP gas torch. Heated the connection where the cylinder was basically welded inside and re-hammered into the cylinder with a socket extension and out it popped. WOW. Finally. After letting it cool, I reattached the mechanism to the bottom of my chair and in slid the new cylinder and then on the legs. Promptly sat down in it and tried to raise the chair up. It did not work at all. Well removed it all again and saw a purple plastic cap that was over the white piece that was the actual gas cylinder control. I unscrewed that purple piece and reassembled it all one more time and it all worked great. Seems very strong and no leaks so far. When I lower it may be a little more of a drop than the old one and not as smooth but will try to get used to it. Overall giving it a good buy and hoping it last for years as not looking forward to removing the cylinder in the future again. Dropping to 4 stars as there were no instructions to remove the purple plastic cap and it cost me more time to disassemble and reassemble it.

Exceptional fits my GTPlayer Racing chair like a chair, slightly higher by lick and in or 2 but its easliy adjustable! Removing my old on was a pain but installion of this was a breeze. It lloks and feels strong, if there is no update, that means its still working great!

I have some very expensive office chairs, and the cylinder went bad on them. I did not want to spend several hundred dollars for a new chair and was researching replacement of the cylinder online, when I came across this excellent value and easy to replace cylinder for my chairs. Now my chairs function just like as if they were new and give all the proper support. These heavy duty cylinders work excellent because I’m a pretty big guy weighing about 300 pounds and they support my weight all day.

Easy installation. 50mm diameter. Worked well to replace my dxracer prince series gaming chair. This one is good for taller people.

Seems like a universal fitment. Worked perfectly for me. Measure your old gas cylinder and ensure its the same height. I removed the black case because my chair had a different design however the silver part was standard size and fits well. There's small parts inside the black cylinder so be careful not to loose anything

Fits well, make sure to measure the travel of old one as majority on here were actually shorter. Need hammer/mallet and a pipe wrench to remove old one. Simply mallet hit bottom to loosen from cylinder and years of sitting in chair, top chamber pipe wrench needed to spin about to loosen from chair. Then simply remove the new cap on the new cylinder and place in the feet and then top chair and sit on chair and move up and down a few times and then it’s like new
