Why does it say it needs to be washed before being used?

I wondered the same thing. All I can say is it may have had some kind of release agent on it, so it would not adhere to itself and washing it seemed to relax the folds. We did as requested, it is put, did not want the plastic curtain police to come knocking on the door !!!

I bought 3 shower curtains at the same time. I don’t remember which ones had rings with them, but they were white plastic rectangular shaped and I did not use them because I prefer the metal rings with beads they pull more smoothly.
