Fantastic Challenge for Smart Pups - Worth the Investment (Nearly 4 Years On!)
🐶🧩 This is an excellent, engaging puzzle that has been really useful for my small dog. He is a smart, persistent little man who tends to get into mischief when under-stimulated. We initially bought it for him while he was recovering from cruciate surgery, needing ways to provide mental stimulation without physical activity. The toy was invaluable when he was confined for a prolonged period and only allowed short walks on a lead. 🌧️ Key Observations & Experience • Difficulty Level: The "Expert Level 4" rating is accurate, but the leap in complexity from Level 3 is significant. This puzzle requires a sequence of actions - sliding tiles, moving centre covers, and using the orange locks for an extra challenge - which really gets the dog thinking critically. • Mental Stimulation & Recovery Aid: The low-impact nature of the activity meant he could be mentally active and satisfy his natural foraging instincts while strictly adhering to rest orders. This mental outlet helped tremendously in reducing his anxiety and cabin fever during the post-op period. Engagement Specifics & Managing Frustration: • The square sliding panels were easy for him to use, and having so many of them engaged him effectively. • The central wheel and the concept of sliding the cylinders in/out was much more challenging. 💡 To manage his frustration, I used a specific technique: I placed pieces of grated cheese under the wheel, in line with the compartments each slider needed to be moved to. This rewarded him for the slow, controlled turns of the wheel needed to be successful with the sliders. This adaptation was key to teaching him the multi-step process successfully. • Durability and Quality: We have had this toy for nearly four years now, and it has held up remarkably well. It has withstood enthusiastic nudging and pawing without breaking. 📣 Bottom Line & Manufacturer Feedback If you have a smart, persistent dog or need an engaging, low-mobility activity during injury recovery, the Outward Hound by Nina Ottosson Multipuzzle Level 4 Expert Dog Treat Puzzle is an exceptional choice. My one minor (mostly tongue-in-cheek!) complaint: The progressive problem solving challenges provided by the Nina Ottosson puzzle toys have helped create a Houdini dog 🪄✨. They say dogs don't extrapolate very well: mine can liberate himself and his sister from crates, and he can escape a puppy pen despite the obstacles I set in place to prevent him from doing that! 🙈 On a serious note, my constructive point for the manufacturer is that clearer instructions for assisting dogs in the transition from "intermediate to expert" levels would be very helpful. Overall, this is a fantastic product that offers a rewarding challenge and lasting enrichment ✅ I highly recommend this for bright dogs, who have experience with puzzle toys and who enjoy a challenge. 🎓🐶🧩 ❌ If your dog has a low frustration threshold, this might not be the puzzle for them. 😫 🐾❤️

Slowed him down !!
My dog is incredibly food oriented and literally inhales his meals. Had previously tried slow feeder bowls which didn’t make any difference to this gannet 😂. This was a game changer and now has his meals served only in this. Didn’t take too long for him to figure out what to do. Had to help him at first with the centre wheel but if there’s food then he’s on it! Video shows him at full speed eating about 120g of dry food. Bought this in Nov 2020 and it now looks like there has been an upgrade to it with extra bits to tackle. Would love to give Webster the extra challenge but bit extravagant buying another one. Not so easy to clean but I just use an anti-bacterial wipe which does the trick. Has come apart a couple of times due to Webster’s full on approach but it clips back together okay.

Great for doggos!
I bought this for my pup as she was finding her current ones too easy, and its fab, its much larger than i realised but it keeps my dog occupied for a long time trying to figure it out! She has struggled a bit with the middle but shes getting the hang of it. Easy to clean & sturdy & comes with non-slip feet!

Great engagement for dog
Absolutely brilliant, occupied doggo for nearly 45 minutes. Good difficulty level and he had a good nap afterwards. Especially great for if I'm about to go out to tire him out a little bit. Have bought Outward puzzles in the past and they continue to impress! Also pretty destructible, he did go at one of the cylidners a little bit and, aside from a few bite marks, stayed in place and didn't tear any plastic off.

Not so good 😡
I’ve only had this dog puzzle for one day and my dog has already managed to pull two of the tiles off. The locking system is pretty disappointing one lock has been pulled off ,it doesn’t seem sturdy at all. Great idea in theory, but the build quality just isn’t there. Wouldn’t recommend for stronger or more determined dogs.

Tires my dog out
Brilliant, it’s been about 6 months, shes just learned to slide the sliders, I have to help with spinner in the middle, maybe another year for that, and it really tires her out, Good value.

Not as good as expected for my cat
Xmas gift bought for my cat as a step up from level 3 puzzle options which are too easy. She worked out the sides so far, needs to up her game for the centre wheel, and haven't yet used the side blockers. I am pleased she doesn't do this one in a couple of minutes, unfortunately this is aided by the fact the product does not work smoothly, a couple of the squares on one side get stuck and they need my force to slide them along, so there's no way the cat could move them with her paw. I don't know whether it's just my puzzle that has a fault or other people have had this issue? I bought this model because it was recommended by some cat owners but as far as I am concerned the design doesn't entirely work for a cat. I appreciate this is made for dogs therefore they made not have the same issues. I found the whole thing clunky, the middle wheel is also hard to spin with a tendency to stick. My cat doesn't tend to be very forceful which isn't in her favour here. Perhaps bigger cats that tend to be more aggressive with their puzzles might have a different experience? Some squares share a common treat pocket underneath which means the treat will slide from one side to the other at each attempt to get it - perhaps this is meant to add to the "difficulty" - it certainly is frustrating. Cat's claws get caught in the outer plastic edge when trying to get the treat out, half of the time she ends up eating the treat by licking right in the pocket. Some bits of treats get in areas where they are difficult to remove from, making this annoying to clean.

Not indestructible!
My dog has managed to pull the individual covers off to get at the treats! But he does love it and keeps him amused until he gets all the treats out. I have been able to put the covers back on.

Gd quality toy/ feeder!
Got this when my pup was abt 7-8mths old. He figured it out quite fast and is still enjoying it one mth later. We put his lunch kibble in it so it’s more fun for him and he can’t gobble up his food too fast!

Puzzelen
Wil je je hond uitdagen om na te denken om aan eten te komen, dan is deze puzzel een mooie uitdaging. Ook geschikt voor honden die te snel hun voer opeten.
